Introduction

5 Introduction 1 Introduction Nexans FibreRoute trunking system is designed for dedicated fibre optic patching in a data centre (DC) environment. It provides a full range of trunking sizes and various adapters to fulfill particular needs in different DC types. 1. Channel 2. Elbow 3. Tee 4. Cross 5. Internal/External Bend 6. Vertical Unequal Tee 7. Trumpet 8. End Cap 9. Waterfall kit 10. Reducer A general layout of Nexans FibreRoute system The patching in ZD and MD patching rack is always crowded. So we need different size to fit each area. A wide range of tees, crosses and fittings are designed to allows free connection between different channel sizes. For example, you can have a cross road of 120 and 240 systems by using a 120/240 cross. (or FibreRoute Plan) is a Visio template and add-in that provides the ability to create layouts of Nexans FibreRoute trunking system to scale, and to export a Bill of Materials to Excel, which can then have prices added to. 1.1 Application in Data Centre Interconnection between main channel for the MD and branch for the ZD. Unequal crosses and tees are used to connect channels of different sizes. Equal Cross Equal Tee

6 Introduction Bend Vertical Bends Waterfalls and vertical tees allows different sizes of cable access to cabinets. Trumpets allow cable protection at any opening in channel. 90 Waterfall 130 Waterfall Trumpet End Vertical Tee Adapters allow transit between different sizes.

9 2 A new diagram is created from the template with the window opened. There will be an Add-ins ribbon tab with a Nexans FibreRoute Planner group. A new Nexans FibreRoute Plan diagram The window 32 can be opened and closed from the button in the ribbon group. The diagram workspace opens with a number of docked stencils on the left-hand side. Some of these are Microsoft supplied stencils, but there are four Nexans ones that are custom ones installed by this add-in. Microsoft Visio supplied stencils: Visio Extras / Annotations Visio Extras / Callouts Visio Extras / Dimensioning - Engineering Maps and Floor Plans / Building Plan / Walls, Doors and Windows 29 Network / Network Room Elements custom stencils: Nexans / 11 Nexans / Nexans FibreRoute 120 & 240 Miscellaneous Nexans / Nexans FibreRoute 120 System 27 Nexans / Nexans FibreRoute 240 System If these stencils are accidentally closed, then they can be re-opened from Shapes / More Shapes at the location shown above. The visual display of the stencils can be changed using the right mouse menu of the stencil headers.

10 Changing stencil views 2.1 Nexans FibreRoute stencils The four Nexans stencils in the workspace are also listed in the Nexans FibreRoute Planner window in the FibreRoute Products tab. Three of the stencils contain the Nexans FibreRoute product shapes, apart from the adapters to ADC and Panduit systems. The fourth stencil contains custom shapes for the FibreRoute Planner. The FibreRoute stencils

11 There are no connectors, end caps or mounting shapes either, because these are automatically calculated in the Bill of Materials stencil This stencil contains the master shapes that are not FibreRoute products, but are helpful in creating data centre layouts. stencil IT and AC Rack Units The Rack Unit and AC Unit shapes can be set to any dimensions either by entering sizes in the Shape Data dialog, opened with the Properties right mouse menu, or the Shape Data Window, opened with the View / Show /Task Panes / Shape Data or Data / Show/Hide / Shape Data Window ribbon commands. Rack Unit Shape Data The right mouse menu allows for some extra Shape Data rows that are hidden by default, to become visible, if required.

12 The Rack Unit shape right mouse menu The various Facets are provided for creating sections and elevations. Different facets of the Rack Unit shape The Rack Unit and AC Unit shapes can be glued to each other for ease of alignment.

13 Gluing Rack Units to each other By default, the text block displays the Shape Number Text and Shape Number values Creating rows of similar shapes A data centre normally has many rows of similar racks or cabinets.the View / Macros / Add-ons / Visio Extras / Array Shapes... ribbon menu opens the Array Shapes addon. The Array Shapes... add-on The spacing of the duplicated shapes can be changed in the Array Shapes dialog. A negative Rows distance will place the duplicated shapes below the selected shape, and a negative Columns distance will copy shapes to the left of the selected shape.

14 The Array Shapes add-on dialog The duplicate shapes will have the same Shape Data as the original selected shape. Duplicating shapes with Array Shapes Numbering shapes The View / Macros / Add-ons / Visio Extras / Number Shapes... ribbon menu opens the Number Shapes add-on

15 The Number Shapes add-on The preceeding text, start number and interval can be set with the Number Shapes dialog. If the Manually by clicking option is selected, then a window stays open whilst shapes are numbered by selecting them in order.

16 Numbering shapes manually The Number Shapes add-on can be used repeatedly to create different preceeding text on rows, for example. Numbered shapes Section Reference shapes The Section Reference shapes provide the ability to create section/elevations of plan shapes inside or crossing them. The Section Reference shape should be dropped onto the plan page and given a section reference, such as A in the example below. The arrows can be re-sized by dragging the yellow control handle, and this will automatically change the text size too.

17 Dropping a Section Refrence on the plan Once the Section Reference shape has been positioned on the plan, it should be labeled with a unique character by over-typing the question mark. The desired Aspect (From Bottom, From Top, From Left or From Right) should be selected to point the arrows towards the desired view. The yellow control handle can be re-positioned to change the size of the arrows and font. Once the Section Reference Plan shape has been positioned, sized and labeled, the Create Section action can be selected from the right mouse menu. This will open the standard Microsoft Visio Off-page reference dialog where the choice of creating the paired section/elevation destination page can be chosen. A New page can be given a name at this point, or an Existing page can be selected. The Keep shape text synchronized option should be ticked. When the OK button is clicked, then the paired Section Reference shape will be dropped onto the destination page where it can be re-positioned. Creating a section Note that the linked section will not automatically change to the Section View = Section if the label is not edited from the default question mark Updating a section Once a section pair has been created, there will be hyperlinks and a Follow Link right mouse action available to navigate between the two, paired Section Reference shapes. In addition, double-clicking a section shape will also navigate to its pair. The paired Section shape is initially empty so that it can be positioned on the page. The FibreRoute shapes within the Section shape are automatically added, removed, sized and positioned by selecting the Nexans FR... / Update Section right mouse menu option on the Plan shape.

18 Updating a section Follow a section link The Section shape can be repositioned on its page, but it cannot be widened because this dimension is locked to the size of the Plan shape from the outer edge of the arrows. Similarly, the Ceiling Height is controlled by the value in the Shape Data panel of the Plan shape. The Section shape can have the height above the ceiling line varied to suit. The yellow control handle can be moved horizontally to change the floor and ceiling rectangle widths, and it can be moved vertically to change the height of the label font. The Update Section action will update the Date Created value on the Section Reference Plan and Section shapes. If a section is deleted, then the Section Reference shape on the plan has a Reset action at the bottom of its right mouse menu. This will change the Follow Link right mouse menu back to the Create Section right mouse menu option Toggle Layer button shapes Visio shapes can be assigned to none, one or many layers.this can make their selection or management easier because shapes on layers can be made visible or invisible in the Visio window, and independently in the printed output. Shapes on layers can also be Locked, which makes them unselectable. Visio has a Layer Properties dialog that can be opened from Home / Editing / Layer Properties... ribbon command, or from the right mouse menu of the FibreRoute shapes. The Layer Properties dialog However, it is often time consuming using this dialog when the settings on often used layers need to be toggled. Therefore, the stencil provides an alternative. Three pre-specified Toggle Layer buttons are provided on the Nexans FibreRoute Planner stencil Toggle FibreRoute - provides actions for the FibreRoute layer

19 Toggle Section References - provides actions for the Section References layer Toggle DC Units - provides actions for the AC Units and IT Racks layers Toggle Layer buttons The Toggle Layer Button can be used with any layer or layers to provide the same capabilities. Simply select an instance of the Toggle Layer Button, then extend the selection to include any shapes whose layers are to be added to the button. Finally, choose the Get Layers right mouse menu action. Getting Layers for Toggle Layer button The layer names will then be displayed on the button shape, which can be resized and formatted to suit. The right mouse menu then offers the actions to toggle the Visible, Printable and Lock settings, in addition to the ability to selecting all of the shapes that are on the named layers.

20 Layer visible and print settings toggled off Nexans Border The Nexans Border shape provides a convenient and unified title block to each page, and provides short-cuts to many standard page and scale setups. Nexans Border shape The Nexans Border shape is automatically added to new pages, but it is also available to be dragged and dropped from the Nexans Data Centre Planner stencil. The shape will automatically fit to the page, and contains Shape Data rows where some values can be set. Page Title Revision Revision Date Revised By Page Setup Shortcuts Different pages in a Visio document can have different size, orientation, scale and measurement units. Each page can be printed on one or more printed pages. The Page Setup dialog that can be opened from the Design / Page Setup expander button has tabs for changing these settings manually.

21 Page Setup / Print Setup Page Setup / Drawing Scale However, the Nexans Border shape has many of the standard page size, orientation and scales available as options on the right mouse click menu. Nexans Border shape Page Setup options Note that the current page size name and orientation is indicated by an asterisk (*) at the end of the menu line, and the current scale is indicated by a tick mark at the start of the sub-menu line Title Block The title block displays information from the Shape Data of the window of the Nexans Border shape and data from the Document Properties dialog. This dialog can be opened from File / Info / Properties / Advanced Properties or from the Document Properties option on the right-mouse menu of the Nexans Border shape.

More Title Block shapes The Visio Extras / Title Blocks stencil provides many more shapes that can be used on a page. Title Block stencil For example, the Date shape can be added. This shape has the default formula =DOCCREATION(), which can be seen by selecting the sub-shape then the Insert / Text / Field ribbon button.

24 DOCCREATION() is the default formula This can be changed to another suitable date, and formatted to suit. Different dates and formats The Shape Data of any shape in Visio can be used within any other shape. For example, the Nexans Border shape may have a Revision Date value. So, you may want to display this date, rather than the date that the whole document was edited. You need to know the shape ID number, which can be read from the header of the Nexans

25 Border shape on the page. In the following example, the ID number is 1742, as seen in either of the two views. Shape Data window inside the group Nexans Border Shape Data The Nexans Border shape can be referenced as Sheet.1742 in this example, where Sheet. is the required prefix before the ID of the shape. Insert Revision Date The actual formula entered in this example is: =IF(Sheet.1742!Prop.RevisionDate>0, Sheet.1742!Prop.RevisionDate,DOCLASTEDIT()) The effect of this formula is to display the Revision Date, if it has been entered, otherwise the date that the whole document was edited is displayed. Displaying the Revision Date

Scaling the Nexans Border The plan and sections are often transmitted digitally, and viewed on a screen. Therefore the Nexans Border, by default, has a logo in the top centre of the screen, and a title block in the bottom right corner. These elements will remain a constant size on the screen, regardless of the scale or page size or orientation. Border suitable for on screen viewing However, the plan and sections may need to be printed to scale, and the normal logo and title block will be too large. So, an alternative scaled appearance is provided that can be displayed by selecting the Scaled Border & Title option on the right mouse menu of the border shape. Additionally, if the printer paper is A4, and the Visio page is a valid A size, then the number of A4 sheets required across and down can be automatically set with the Set for Scaled Print menu action. The Page Breaks option is ticked in the example below so the effect can be seen clearly. Border suitable for plotting/printing to scale

27 If the page needs to be printed on a single page, then the Zoom Page to Paper Print will set the printer sheets to one across by one down Legend Shape The Legend shape can be used to give a quick count of all the FibreRoute shapes on the page. The length of channels is not calculated, but this can be seen on the FibreRoute Items tab of the window, if the Refresh the BOM for this page button is clicked. The Legend Shape Nexans FibreRoute 120 System stencil This stencil contains the FibreRoute product shapes for the 120 mm wide system. Nexans FibreRoute 120 System stencil

Nexans FibreRoute 240 System stencil This stencil contains the FibreRoute product shapes for the 240 mm wide system. Nexans FibreRoute 240 System stencil Nexans FibreRoute 120 and 240 System Miscellaneous stencil This stencil contains the FibreRoute product shapes which are for both the 120 mm and 240 mm wide systems. Nexans FibreRoute 120 & 240 Miscellaneous stencil Nexans FibreRoute Other The Nexans FibreRoute Other tab lists the items that could be added to the Bill of Materials automatically, but do not have a physical representation as a Visio shape.

29 Other FibreRoute items 2.2 Microsoft stencils Microsoft Visio provides a large number of stencils in the product, and the Nexans FibreRoute Planner template docks just a few of them by default, but any other stencils from Microsoft, or from other third-party sources can be used. However, the shapes will not be included in the Bill of Materials, as that is reserved for the Nexans FibreRoute product shapes Walls, Doors and Windows stencil A simple room can be created, to scale, using one of the three room master shapes on the Walls, Doors and Windows stencil. The shape can be resized to suit.

30 The Room shape Other shapes from the Walls, Doors and Windows stencil, or anywhere else, can be used, but only the Wall shape will be used in the Update Section feature. Add other shapes to complete the room Once the room is complete, then the room shape needs to be ungrouped in order for the Update Section feature to discover the actual walls

31 Ungroup warning for room shapes Group / Ungroup menu option Annotations There are a few useful shapes on the Annotations stencil, such as the Scale symbol. Any shape can be set to keep its screen size by applying the Anti-Scale Size action, regardless of the page size and scale. Additionally, shapes can be anchored to a specific page (or parent shape) vertex or mid-point using the Anchor Shape to.. menu action. Optionally add Anti-Scale and Anchor properties Any shape can also be protected from accidental resizing and/or movement by using the Guards of size and position toggle actions. Protect size and position

window The window has three tabs: FibreRoute Products - a list of all of the FibreRoute products that has a Visio shape in one of the three FibreRoute stencils 10 FibreRoute Items - a list of all of the FibreRoute product shapes on the active Visio page Bill of Materials - a summary of all of the FibreRoute product shapes on the active Visio page plus other required FibreRoute products as defined by the BOM Calculations Product page hyperlinks The hyperlink button in the ribbon of the window tabs will open the product page for the selected item in the window. Hyperlinks to product page This is the same page that can be opened from the hyperlink on the right mouse menu of each FibreRoute shape Selecting product shapes The FibreRoute Products tab can be used to find all the shapes for that product in the active Visio page. Simply select the line in the window then click the Select all instances button.

33 Selecting a product shape in the page The products that are not represented by Visio shapes are listed under the <none> stencil, but cannot be located on the page, since they do not exist as shapes. The Bill of Materials tab can also be used to select instances of a selected product, but there are extra items in this tab which do not have a physical representation as a shape on the page. Extracting a Bill of Materials The FibreRoute Items tab can be used to select a specific instance of a product. Selecting an item shape Filtering a list Lists in the window can be easily filtered.

34 Filtering a list The filter icon changes slightly to denote that a filter is applied. A filtered list Grouping list items The grouping of the lists in the FibreRoute Products and FibreRoute Items tabs can changed.

35 Different grouping Expanding the grouping header 2.4 Making groups Switching between Metric and US Units The template can be created with Metric or US Units initially, but you can switch between units at any time. This process is made simple by selecting the Rest of the World or USA Website Shape Data of the page. After changing the Website, the right mouse menu of the Nexans Border shape offers a different selection of paper sizes and scales. Selecting one of these options will change the Visio page size, scale and measurement units. It will also change the hyperlinks of every FibreRoute shape in the page to point to the appropriate website. Page Website Shape Data options The right mouse menu displays appropriate paper sizes and scale. Metric paper and scales US Units paper and scales Lengths of shapes can be entered in Metric or US Units at any time. The default is inches, so always add the unit, ie 1.2 m or 3 ft.

Drawing a FibreRoute system

37 Drawing a FibreRoute system 3 Drawing a FibreRoute system The Nexans master shapes can be dragged and dropped from either a stencil or from the / FibreRoute Planner window on to the drawing page. Drag and drop shapes from stencil or FibreRoute Products tab Each of the master shapes on these stencils contain shape data which can be viewed via the Shape Data window that can be opened from Data / Show/Hide / Shape Data Window or from the View / Show /Task Panes / Shape Data ribbon commands. FibreRoute product shape right mouse menu Each product shape has a hyperlink to open up the relevant Nexans product page on the internet. The visibility of the text can be toggled with the Hide Text menu action. If it is visible, then a yellow control handle is also available for moving the text block around. The text block is part of the shape and maintains its relative position if the shape is moved.

38 Drawing a FibreRoute system Each of the product shapes are on the FibreRoute layer, and they need to stay on that layer for inclusion in the Bill of Materials. FibreRoute product shape text The text block displays the User-defined Cell named Text by default, which is optionally made up of the Asset Number and/or Part Number. The choice can be made from the right mouse menu. Alternatively, any text can be inserted into the text block, including the values in the other Shape Data rows, using Insert / Text / Field. Each FibreRoute product shape has five alternative facets, with the Top facet being the default. The side view facets are used automatically by the Update Section feature, but they can be used manually too. FibreRoute product shape facets

39 Drawing a FibreRoute system 3.1 Creating a new diagram The setup and installation program will create a new entry, Nexans, in the CATEGORIES tab, or TEMPLATES in Visio Pro for Office 365), if it does not exist already. There will be a new template, Nexans FibreRoute FibreRoute Planner that can be selected to create a new metric or US units diagram. File / New File / New / Nexans Alternatively, a Start Menu item is available from Nexans / New Nexans FibreRoute FibreRoute Plan. 3.2 Stretching channels to the right length There are 120 Channel and 240 Channel shapes that are the main shapes for designing a FibreRoute system. The channel shapes can be stretched and glued to some other shapes. The channel shapes have a beginning, which has a rotation handle, and an ending, which can be selected and moved to vary the segment length. The waterfall shapes will be glued to the channel shapes later A Channel shape

40 Drawing a FibreRoute system 3.3 Adding vertical bends Vertical bends are normally used in pairs, with the Vertical External Bend above the Vertical Internal Bend. The bends will automatically position themselves when glued correctly, but it may be necessary to alter the ZOrder to suit afterwards. Glue Vertical External Bend Glue Vertical Internal Bend Drop Vertical Internal Bend Glue channel It is sometimes necessary to drop a shape down on the page, and then to click and drag it closer to the connection point, in order to facilitate the correct snapping together. 3.4 Adding horizontal bends, crosses and tees When a shape is dragged over a connection point, it may not initially glue at the desired rotation. However, once dropped, it can be easily re-positioned, and automatically rotated, by selecting the shape near to the connection point on it that needs to glued, and then moving it to the target shape end. Repositioning a bend Glueing a bend

41 Drawing a FibreRoute system 3.5 Raising and lowering shapes There are two vertical bends that can be joined together to raise or lower the FibreRoute channels. In the following example, the channel needs to begin at a higher level, then step down to the normal height. The default Base elevation value is 2.15 m, and the combination of a vertical external and internal bend will either raise or lower by m. Therefore the first channel and the vertical external bend need to be raised using the Raise Elevation action. This will change the Base elevation to m, and the default yellow fill color of the shapes will get paler as they get higher, and darker as they get lower. When shapes are added to a page, the default ZOrder is for the last shape dropped to be displayed above the previous shape. However, there are times when the graphics look better if the ZOrder is changed, either with the Home / Arrange ribbon commands, or with the right mouse menu options available on each FibreRoute shape. Bringing multiple shapes to front Raising multiple shapes Alternatively, as long as there are contiguously connected FibreRoute shapes, the right mouse action Nexans FR.. / Set Base Elevations can make the calculations required to raise and lower shapes when internal and external bends are used. A typical plan before using Set Base Elevations Sections before using Set Base Elevations When the Nexans FR.. / Set Base Elevations was selected from the central cross, it was able to navigate all of the connected FibreRoute shapes, and automatically set the Base Elevation Shape Data values.

42 Drawing a FibreRoute system Same plan after using Set Base Elevations Same sections after using Set Base Elevations 3.6 Adding end caps to shapes Many of the FibreRoute items can have end caps added to them. There are 120 and 240 system end caps that are added up in the Bill of Materials, and each shape has the ability to include end caps on the appropriate ends. For example, the images below show a 240 Elbow shape without an end cap, and with an end cap added, where a solid line is shown along one edge. Without any end caps With an end cap The right mouse menu and the Shape Data window describe the position of the end cap with respect to their default rotation. This can be seen on the stencil icon, so, in this example, the end cap is called the End Cap on Right, because it is the right when viewed in the default rotation.

43 Drawing a FibreRoute system Changing End Cap values The end caps can be edited using the right mouse menu, or in the Shape Data window. 3.7 Adding covers to shapes Most FibreRoute items can have a cover fitted. All except the Waterfall items require the covers to be counted in the Bill of Materials. The 90 and 130 Waterfall assemblies include covers, so they are not added to the BoM. Fortunately, the covers can be added for the whole page using the Shape Data window. Uncovered items If the Covered value is changed to TRUE in the Shape Data window for the page, and the BoM is refreshed, then the covers for the page will be added to the BoM, as displayed below.

44 Drawing a FibreRoute system Covered items Notice that there is a slight difference in the appearance of the FibreRoute shapes when the page Covered Shape Data is changed, except for the waterfall assemblies. 3.8 Adding Waterfalls There are two waterfall sizes. The 130 Waterfall can have two flexible tubes, but the 90 Waterfall can only have one. When a Waterfall shape is dragged over a channel shape, then the available connection points are displayed on either side of the Channel. There is also a yellow control handle in-line with the first connection point. The Waterfall shape will reorientate itself to the correct aspect when it is glued to a valid connection point on a Channel. Dropping a Waterfall shape The connection points are spaced according to the Drop Spacing Shape Data value, so this is usually set to the same size as the width of the racks/cabinets below. The first connection point position can be moved manually with the yellow control handle, or by entering in a value into the First Drop Offset Shape Data value. Once the first waterfall has been glued to a channel, then the Nexans FR / Add More... right mouse menu action can be used to quickly add more along the channel side away from the channel start.

45 Drawing a FibreRoute system Spacing waterfall drops Adding more Waterfalls The glued Waterfall shapes will remain spaced relative to each other if the Position Drop 01 control handle is moved. Positioning Waterfall drops Waterfalls at different levels Waterfall shapes can also be glued to raised or lowered channels, but they will not automatically elevate to the correct height, so the Raise or Lower actions can be used on them too. This will change the Base elevation Shape Data value as before, and also alter the Flexi-tube Drop value.

46 Drawing a FibreRoute system Raised Waterfall shapes in plan view The flexi-tubes should be displayed at the correct drop in the section/elevation view, but they can be moved with the Position flex tube control handle. Raised Waterfall in elevation view

Extracting a Bill of Materials

48 Extracting a Bill of Materials 4 Extracting a Bill of Materials The ultimate purpose of the plan layout and sections is to create a Bill of Materials. Example Plan Example Sections The Refresh BoM items button on the FibreRoute Items or Bill of Materials tab will collect FibreRoute items from the page, and list them in the tabs. FibreRoute Items tab FibreRoute Bill of Materials tab The Export button will create a table in Excel, which can then be used to integrate with a price list.

49 Extracting a Bill of Materials BOM formatted in Excel The Bill of Materials can include the covers for each item if the Covered Shape Data row of the page is set to TRUE. Similarly, the inclusion of a whole page in the Bill of Materials can be set with the Include in BoM row. Page Covered Shape Data row 4.1 BOM Calculations The Bill of Materials calculations are based on the following figures. BOM Item Length of Channel Quantity of adapters Comments 10% spare, round up to multiple of 2m

50 Extracting a Bill of Materials Quantity of in-line connectors Quantity of waterfalls Quantity of fixing hardware 20% spare or 2 pcs minimum 1m spacing Calculation of Quantity of In-Line Connectors Type 120 Channel 240 Channel 120 Elbow 240 Elbow 120 Equal Tee 240 Equal Tee 120 Equal Cross 240 Equal Cross 120 Internal or External Bend 240 Internal or External Bend Reducer Tee Reducer Unequal Cross Vertical Unequal Tee Connectors 240 Connectors quantity of 2m channels + 1 quantity of 2m channels Selecting Fixing hardware The channels are fixed to the ceiling, to cable trays top, or to racks. This is done with the Trapeze Mounting Kit, Cable Tray Mounting Kit, or Cabinet/Rack Mounting Kit respectively. Cabinet/Rack mounting Cable Tray or Ladder mounting Trapeze or Ceiling mounting By default, every BoM is calculated using the Trapeze Mounting Kit, but the numbers in the Excel table can be edited for a project, provided the total number of mounting kits for both the 120 and 240 Systems remain the same. The alternative mounting kits are added to the BoM with zero values, so that they can be edited to suit.
