1 Nexans Visio Template 2.1 Updated for LANmark EVO connectivity & for NED use As system manufacturer not only provide the market with a complete range of copper and fibre optic products but also provide all its partners with the necessary support for Project Design and general cabling technical matters through the Project Design & Support department. Together with this direct support, we are also developing software support tools to ease the work of our regional teams and partners when designing a cabling system. The first tool that can be freely downloaded from our website is the Nexans Visio Template: a Nexans products intelligent library working under MS Visio. This useful support tool will allow you to quickly and easily create professional drawings of the cabling system distributors (FD, BD, CD). Presented together with your best quotation, these drawings will enhance your tender and should improve your chance to be awarded. The second tool to be released in June 2005 is the Nexans Easy Design tool (NED). This unique tool will automatically create the full design of the cabling system including campus & building backbone drawings, Campus, Building and Floor distributors layout and a full and complete bill of material (including the cables and all accessories). You need to install the NVT 2.1 upgrade to use the NED 1.0 The NVT is working under MS Visio 2000, 2002 and MS Visio is becoming more and more popular and provides an easy, complete (Huge collection of shapes libraries included) and cost effective solution to create business and technical visual diagrams Page 1 of 7

2 The NVT 2.1 can be freely downloaded from our website: (From the Partner corner sub-directory). NVT 2.1 Installation The package is included in a single exe file 1. You need to have MS Visio installed on your computer 2. If you are installing the NVT for the first time: Just double-click on the NexansVisioTemplate.exe file and the NVT files will be installed on your computer. If you are upgrading from the NVT 1.x or 2.0, you need to execute the installation file two times: the first time, it will remove the old components and the second time you run the exe file, it will install the new components for the NVT Run MS Visio and choose the Nexans template from the new Nexans Category MS Visio Macro security setting The NVT is using macro commands. To have all functionalities available you have to enable macros. The default security level of MS Visio has to be changed to Medium from the Tools / Option menu. Now, macros are allowed but with a warning message. When Visio is showing the security warning about macro commands, you have to enable Macros 2005 Page 2 of 7

3 4. A Nexans sub-directory has also been created in the Start / Program list of windows XP. In this Nexans sub-directory, you ll find two programs: the NVT 2.1 itself and its updated help file 2005 Page 3 of 7

4 NVT 2.1 Main features NVT 2.1 has been updated with our new LANmark EVO connectivity. NVT 2.1 is also part of the minimum requirement to use the NED 1.0 You can now drag and drop the shapes from the Nexans stencil (Library) onto the custom page preformatted with border and title block. To change the format of the sheet from A4 portrait - scale 1:10 to A3 landscape scale 1:20, select the Nexans border right click on the selection and choose A3 from the menu. The template sheet will immediately be changed to a landscape view and a different scale (1:20) Page 4 of 7

5 Each Master (shape) includes all the products of its family. You don t need to search for the component you need from several libraries or from a huge list of single product shapes. For instance, the snap-in shape includes all LANmark snap-in connectors: From the right-click mouse menu of the snap-in shape, choose the one you need. The description and the part number will be updated according to your choice. On the following print screen showing the choice of menu you get when right clicking on a copper snap-in connectors, you can notice that the e-ssential connectors have now been added to the list of choice. To fill up the cabinets, patch panels, zone distribution boxes and outlets with their respective components, use the Add more option available for the snap-in, the OF coupler and the Omega 10 pairs module. 6 The Help file will provide you with a description of all the functionalities of the NVT 2.1. The help file is available from the Start / Nexans program directory of Windows XP Page 6 of 7

7 When your drawing is complete, you can run the basic BoM report tool to export the Bill of Material of your Distributor into an excel sheet.
