To change the highlighted parameter, press in, and simultaneously turn the rotary encoder. This will scroll through the parameters and also, pages of the Stepdata menu. (alternative methods of changing parameters are in the works) 3. After you have highlighted your target parameter, turn the encoder to change the parameter value. 4. When you are in Stepdata mode, you can press the a matrix button to select a step. 1. The highlighted step will be blinking white 2. Tapping an inactive step will turn on the gate for that step 3. Double tapping an active step will change the gate type to off 5. While a step is selected, the Pgdn and Pgup buttons will scroll you through the 4 pages of 16 steps that are currently being represented by the matrix buttons. 6. There are a few ways to get into Stepdata mode 1. Use the pattern button to enter and exit Pattern Select Menu will put you into Stepdata Menu by default. 2. Tapping the Matrix Buttons in most modes will put you into Stepdata Mode 7. The upper right hand corner of the first page of Stepdata Mode shows the selected channel, the current pattern, and the page of notes which is currently selected. 8. If you are in a Stepdata menu, and would like to change to a different channel, tap the target channel button once.
2. Channel Menu 1. The Channel Menu contains all channel specific settings for Fluxus One. 2. Tapping the channel button multiple times pages through the various pages of the Channel Menu. 1. If the Channel button pressed is a different channel than the currently selected one, FLXS1 will change channels without changing the menu. 2. If the Channel button pressed is the selected channel, FLXS1 will change to the Channel Menu 3. If the Channel button pressed is the selected channel, and the is currently in the Channel Menu, FLXS1 will page through the channel menus. 3. Fluxus One Channel Menus can be navigated in the same manner as Stepdata menus, using the encoder knob and button, 4. There are 3 channel menus spread over 4 pages: 1. Transport 1. First Step 1. The first step of the sequence 2. Step Count 1. The number of steps the sequence will advance before it resets back to the first step 3. Clock Div 1. The division of the main clock time with which this channel will advance 4. Skip # 1. The number next to Skip indicates the number of steps to be skipped 2. The value on the right column indicates a modulation source. This can be one of the gate inputs (GTx) or one of the gate outputs (CHx). 3. If a Gate Input is selected, every time a rising edge of a HIGH signal is detected on the Gate Input specified, this specific channel will advance the number of steps specified. 4. If a Gate Output is selected, this indicates internal modulation, so every time a gate is fired on the output selected, this specific channel will advance the number of steps specified. 5. Swing 1. This specifies the amount of swing on this channel
2. Swing affects regular steps, as well as arpeggios. Arpeggio steps are remapped to a swinging grid, according to the amount of swing specified. 2. Quantizer 1. The Quantizer menu displays the scale quantization that will be used when outputting voltage on the CVxA output 2. Scale indicates the type of scale which is being selected. Semitone indicates classic 12 note per octave scale. (more of these coming!) 3. Key indicates the root note for the quantized mode 4. Mode indicates the selection of notes that will comprise the quantized scale 3. Modulation 1 + Modulation 2 1. Fluxus One has extensive modulation matrix capabilities. Modulation works on a destination-subscribes-tosource methodology, where any number of destinations can subscribe to a single source, since it is all routed internally. 2. The left column indicates the modulation destination, 3. The right column selection indicates the modulation source 1. CVx indicates an external input 2. CVxA or CVxB indicates an internal modulation (better distinction is needed here - stay tuned for updates) 3. xx% indicates a percentage chance for modulation - gate inputs only 4. Gate Length - CV input 1. Modulate the gate length of each step 5. Gate Mute - Gate Input (this is going to be changing to Gate AND, where gates are only fired when the input is high) 1. Mute gates when a Gate input is HIGH 6. Random pitch - Gate Input 1. If gate is high when a step is fired, the pitch will be randomized 2. add + sub: the number of steps that can be added or subtracted for randomization - note: this is done before quantization so all notes are still in key 7. Transpose - CV input 1. Transpose the channel based upon CV input 8. Glide Time - CV input 9. Arp Type - CV input
10. Arp Speed - CV input 11. Arp Octave - CV input 12. Arp Intvl - CV Input 5. To enter the channel menu, press the channel button for the corresponding channel 1. If the channel was not already selected, the first press will select the channel, but not enter the channel menu. 2. Press the channel menu again to enter the channel menu after selecting the channel. 6. You can scroll through the different selections of the channel menus, as well as move between pages by pressing in, and simultaneously turning the rotary encoder. IV. Tempo Menu 1. The tempo menu needs a bit of work. The clock source is actually a global setting, per channel clock is a planned feature but not working yet. 2. Reset input is configured per-channel (there is bug on this menu item where the input changes when you switch to this menu and a value is already set) 3. To change the tempo, highlight the tempo menu item and turn the Data Encoder 4. To set the clock source, highlight Internal Clock and then turn the Data Encoder to select your new clock input. (the setting clock input does not work correctly yet - use gate input 1-4) 5. MIDI input is via a 3.5mm jack, same standard as Make Noise and Korg. 24ppq standard clock rate. Midi Stop / Start + clock messages are currently supported. Tested extensively with Electron RYTM. 6. Gate Input clock sources are 4ppq currently. 7. Reset selects the gate reset input for the selected channel V. Saving / Changing pattern 1. Press the Pattern button to enter pattern select mode 1. Press one of the 4x4 matrix of patterns to load the respective pattern 2. If you wish to load just a single channel, you can tap the channel buttons while in pattern select to deactivate pattern changing for these channels for the
time being. Warning! - doing this will result in channels loaded with patterns from different save slots. If you plan on saving new patterns after loading different patterns in different channels in this manner, you may be saving over patterns which are not currently loaded. 2. To save a pattern press shift-pattern to enter the save mode 1. select the save slot you wish to save the patterns to 2. you can choose to not save certain channels by pressing the respective channel buttons 3. press pattern again to save VI. Channel button shortcuts A. Many buttons have gold text labels. These are channel button shortcuts. Many still have to be implemented properly. The following are currently working. If it is not listed here, the function may not be fully working yet. B. To Erase a channel 1. Hold the channel button you wish to clear 2. Press stop twice while holding down the channel button 3. You can erase multiple channels simultaneously in this manner C. To Mute a channel 1. Hold the channel button + mute gt 1. mute the gate of the selected channel 2. Hold the channel button + mute a 1. Mutes the Pitch CV (CVxA) for the selected channel 3. Hold the channel button + mute b 1. Mutes the Modulation CV (CVxB) for the selected channel D. Other Channel Shortcuts Are not implemented yet! These are coming soon!
VII.Updating Firmware 1. Firmware can be updated using a computer, a MicroUSB cable and a paperclip 2. Download the latest version of Teensy Loader on to your computer from PJRC: Download the latest firmware for Fluxus One 1. Version 16d: flxs1_beta16d.hex.zip?dl=1 2. If the link is broken, please check zetaohm.com for the latest. 4. Launch Teensy Loader 5. Unzip the Firmware Download 6. Drag the firmware file (flxs1_beta16d.hex) to the Teensy Loader App 1.You should see the correct firmware file loaded at the bottom of the teensy loader screen 7. Connect your FLXS1 to your computer with a MicroUSB cable. 8. Using a paperclip (or a whittled toothpick) press the PRGM button that is behind the front panel. Try to to align the paperclip to be perpendicular to the front panel while you press in. You can feel a haptic click once you press it. 9. You will see a progress bar appear in the teensy loader app, and then a message that says Reboot OK. 10. Your Fluxus One should reboot and you should be able to see the firmware version appear on the splash screen 11. If it does not reboot properly, you can try flashing the firmware again, or shutting off power manually and turning it back on. 12. TROUBLESHOOTING 1. If your firmware flashing does not seem to be working properly, make sure that the button labeled Auto on Teensy Loader is bright green and lit up (as opposed to dim). 1. If it is dimmed, then press that button to make sure it will automatically program when you press the PGRM button on your Fluxus One 2. If you attempted to flash the firmware, but the splash screen did not seem to update firmware versions, try the firmware update again until it updates properly.
