2 What is Freegal? Freegal is a music service offered through libraries that allows patrons to stream and download songs and music videos. To access Freegal there is no software to download and there are no digital rights management restrictions. That means that once you download a song or music video, it is yours to keep. Using your Whitby Public Library card you can: - stream an unlimited amount of music - download 7 songs each week (music videos count as 2 songs) Log On to Freegal Using the Internet browser on your computer, go to the Library s website at Click Digital Content and select Music. Click Get Freegal to continue Freegal. September

3 Click Log In at the top right corner of the page. Enter your Whitby Public Library barcode number (all the numbers on the back of your library card, no spaces) and your PIN (the last 4 digits of your phone number). Click Log In. The First Time You Log In to Freegal The first time you use Freegal, you must accept Freegal s Terms and Conditions. Click Accept. September

4 You will also be prompted to provide an address for notifications. If you choose to provide an address, these notification will remind you of the number of downloads you have remaining each week. You are now logged in and ready to start listening to music with Freegal! Freegal Home Page Your Freegal home page shows your number of downloads remaining for the week, as well as featured, recently played, or wish listed music. September

5 My Music Click My Music on the right side of the screen to view your Freegal music. Here you can view or listen to the songs you have recently downloaded, create or listen to Playlists, or view your Wishlist. September

6 Find a Song, Artist, or Album to Listen To Search for a song, artist, or music album using the Search bar at the top of the page. Or click Browse on the left side the home page to then browse through Freegal by Trending, New Arrivals, Genres, Playlists, Artists and more. Streaming Music You can stream an unlimited amount of music with Freegal. To stream music, you must have an Internet connection. Streaming a song is as easy as clicking the Play button for the song you want to listen to. To stream an entire playlist or album, click Stream or Shuffle at the top of the track listing. September

7 Download a Song or Music Video To download a song, click the small down arrow to the right of the song title. Alternatively, click the 3 dot icon to the right of the song information and then click Download. These icons will be different depending on how you found the song you wish to download. September

8 Save the Song or Music Video to Your Computer After the file downloads, depending on which Internet browser you are using, you may be prompted to Open or Save As (in Firefox) or click on the file name (Google Chrome). If you are using Firefox, select Save As and click Ok. Open the Downloads folder by clicking on the arrow at the top of the window and then click on the picture of the file folder. This will show the song in the Downloads folder of your computer. September

9 If you are using Google Chrome, click the small arrow next to the name of the song in the bottom left corner of the window and select show in folder. This will show the song in the Downloads folder of your computer. From the Downloads folder, drag and drop the file to a folder of your choosing. In the example shown below, the song has been moved to the Music folder. Redownload a Song You are able to click on the download button for a song up to 3 times without spending another download credit. To redownload a song (for example, in case of internet connection problems during downloading), click My Music and then the 3 dot icon, and select Redownload. September

10 Transfer Songs to Your MP3 Player There are 2 ways to transfer your songs to an MP3 player. You can use the File Explorer on your computer to drag and drop the song to your MP3 player, just as you did to save the song to your computer. Alternatively, you can add your song to a music player program such as Windows Media Player and use the sync function to transfer the song to your MP3 player. Drag and Drop Transfer to MP3 Player Connect your MP3 player to the computer. Then find where you have saved the song on your computer; if you followed the previous step to save the song or music video to your computer, the song can be found in your Music folder. To copy the song to your MP3 player, drag and drop the song to your MP3 player. September

11 Sync Song to MP3 Player Using Windows Media Player In Windows Media Player, click Organize in the top left corner and select Manage Libraries and click Music. Select the folder in which your song is saved; in this case the Music folder. Click OK. Your Freegal song(s) have now been added to Windows Media Player. To transfer them to your MP3 player, click the Sync tab in the top right corner of the window and drag and drop the song to the column on the right side of the window. September
