It asks the user for personal information (name, address, family names, hobbies, etc.) that will be integrated into the existing or new pages. Series 5 Software will also pose a series of questions about the user s communication needs, and will recommend sets of existing InterAACT pages based on the responses. Drag-and-Drop editing to allow users to select images, sounds and video from a computer, external drive or the internet and assign them to pages or buttons. Preprogrammed InterAACT pages that exist so new pages only need to be created if the user chooses to create them. Both DynaSyms and PCS symbol sets, preloaded on every device. All of these settings can be easily changed at any time. Drag-and-Drop The Drag-and-Drop feature can be used to incorporate text files, sounds, pictures and videos into pages. With the Drag and Drop feature a user can: Change the background of a page by dragging an image of his/her choice from an Internet search or other source, and dropping it onto an open page Program a button to play a sound or video file by simply dragging the file onto the button Create a custom symbol set by dragging a folder of pictures into the Symbol Browser menu Software Tools for Page-Editing Several different methods exist for creating and editing pages. Some examples include: The Quick Page feature, which allows users to create an original page by using InterAACT templates to ensure that the new page will seamlessly transition into the current page set.

6 The Page Wizard enables users to create a new page by answering a series of questions about the desired layout, content and overall design of the page The Page Editor features a complete graphical layout and editing environment that provides the user with full control over page design Fill from Searches A user can create any number of empty buttons on a page, and later fill them with symbols and text found though a custom search of a variety of topics in the Series 5 Software dictionary. Vocabulary Clipboard Users can populate buttons with selected words and phrases from a variety of sources for quick inclusion on a page. Sources include: Word processing documents Web pages Series 5 Software Dictionary Symbols DynaSyms, PCS and other symbol sets can be copied into a custom symbol set and modified to suit the user s needs and desired page layout. Pictures Pictures from Windows applications or cameras can be used and displayed as the background of a page, as a popup or as a button symbol. Sounds and Videos Users can program buttons to play sound and video files in moments. Tab Controls Designed to provide immediate access to more vocabulary than is normally available on a page, tab controls can contain up to six panes. They allow users to place buttons for varying topics on a single page, reducing the amount of navigation required to locate and use the desired vocabulary. Hiding Buttons Hiding buttons enables communication partners to design more advanced buttons that the user can grow into as literacy levels develop. Buttons can be hidden initially, but exposed later when the user has reached certain educational goals or milestones. Freeform Buttons and Active Areas A user can create custom-shaped buttons and active areas, drawn to any desired size or shape. Importing Content (Intellitools, Boardmaker and DynaVox Software) Content created using the DynaVox 3100, MiniMo, MightyMo, MT4, DV4, and M 3 platforms, along with content from the Boardmaker Software Family (including Speaking Dynamically Pro) and the Intellitools Classroom Suite, can be easily imported into the Series 5 Software. Rate Enhancement A variety of rate enhancement features help users communicate more efficiently. These features reduce the number of selections needed to create a message or perform a given task: Dictionary With the concept-based dictionary, which includes over 35,000 words, names and phrases, the user can easily add custom vocabulary, names and common phrases to their dictionary for easy access. Dynamic Pages The InterAACT page sets include pages that provide dynamic vocabulary options. These pages are designed to encourage natural, real-time communication by minimizing the required navigation for gathering the desired vocabulary. These pages include Quickfire phrases that can be instantly adapted to casual or formal situations, as well as groups of phrases that can shift from past to present or future tense using a single button. Prediction Prediction features support the natural, efficient composition and communication of messages by reducing the amount of navigation necessary to compose a message. A number of prediction options are available to aid users in prediction customization. Three types of prediction are available: As the keyboard is used to create a message, word prediction will attempt to anticipate the word the user is typing, presenting options for quick selection. Words can be predicted with or without symbols. Character prediction attempts to predict the next character most likely to be used when a user is spelling out a word. Character prediction is particularly useful to scanning users.

7 With phrase prediction, your device will provide options for entire phrases that match any part of the current message, not just phrases from the beginning of a sentence. Predicted phrases come from users My Phrases collection, and may be restricted by concept. Abbreviation Expansion Abbreviation expansion allows users to define specific abbreviations for long words and phrases. With the abbreviation expansion feature, users can send messages that are frequently composed and shared (e.g. greetings, introductions and questions, etc.) to the Message Window with just a few selections. Behaviors A range of behaviors, like Environmental Controls, included within the Series 5 Software can be performed using a single button. Macros assign a name to a list of behaviors that may be used in multiple places so that frequent activities like turning on the living room light, turning on the TV for favorite programs, changing the channel and speaking the message: My show is on can be performed with ease. My Phrases The My Phrases menu allows the user to define specific phrases for use in a variety of situations (greetings, quick questions, changing the subject, etc). Phrases can be sent to the Message Window as part of a longer message, or can be spoken directly as stand-alone messages. They can also be sorted by concept and accessed from the title bar at any time so that they are always immediately available. Quickfires Quickfires are short conversation interjections (e.g. I know, wait a second, etc.) that are available for use in any setting. Slots Slots are a rate enhancement feature that allow for message construction using common phrases (e.g., For breakfast I want ) that are paired with a placeholder (the slot) and can be filled with another phrase or a single word. By selecting the slots and changing the filler text, phrases can quickly and easily be changed to suit the given context of the interaction. Slots suitable in different contexts include: Speak Random Text Using Slots can make conversation more spontaneous and engaging. For example, you can program a Slot with the best friends concept, and call the button Greet Marilyn. When this button is selected, it will use the name Marilyn in a randomly chosen phrase from the best friends concept list, such as, Hey, Marilyn, what s up? ; Marilyn, how s it going? ; Hey, Marilyn, how are you?, etc. Nested Slots allow users to include a slot within another slot. For example, a user may compose the text, I want meal for lunch, where meal is a slot. The filler options for meal could include, soup, salad and sandwich, all of which are slots. If, for example, sandwich is selected by the user, options such as ham, turkey or peanut butter and jelly could be selected fillers. Universal Access to Slots is an accessible feature using any selection method, including switch access, joystick and Morse Code. Slot Filler Keyguard Alignment allows users to optimize the Slot Filler menu to match the desired page layout or keyguard configuration. Slots Tab Pane enables you to select the symbol placement and button size settings for the Select Slot Filler menu. Concept Slot Fillers simplify the procedure for modifying the filler (word or phrase) options associated with a slot. Users can add or remove fillers, change the order in which the filler options appear, change the filler text or change the symbol associated with a slot filler. Active Labels enable you to embed an active label in a slot. When in use, the slot will display and speak the current value for the active label. Slots provide users with easy access to words associated with a particular concept. Users can select a slot and choose to replace the word that is currently filling the slot with another word from the same concept. This offers users access to a plentiful source of vocabulary, while eliminating the need to navigate to locate it.
