5 1 1 In the Package The package contains the tools required to set up the environment, to launch the Joinup Application Profile Validator on your own machine. This will give you the possibility to validate your data before uploading it to joinup. Fuseki: Fuseki is a SPARQL server. It provides REST-style SPARQL HTTP Update, SPARQL Query, and SPARQL Update using the SPARQL protocol over HTTP.Location (jena.apache.org, 2011) Xampp: XAMPP is an easy to install Apache distribution containing MySQL, PHP and Perl. (Seidler, 2011) This programme is necessary to be able to deploy the federation validation service. Federation validation Service: This code is developed to validate that the format of a given RDF files fits the standard or the required format necessary for it to function. Note: Xampp is a friendly web server that can be installed on most operating systems, but it can be replaced by any web server you prefer. 1.1 Necessary Configuration This installation is made to function under a windows operating system, furthermore it is highly recommended to use windows 7 for this tutorial. 1.2 Contact Details If you encounter any problems or wish to report any bugs found please contact me at the following address. 6 2 2 Installation: Step by step 2.1 Fuseki installation 1. Go to the following folder: Computer -> System (C:) -> Programme Files (x86). (C:\Program Files (x86)) 2. Create a new folder named : Fuseki 3. Copy and paste the following zip file jena-fuseki distribution.zip from the Software folder (attached to this manual) inside the Fuseki folder OR download it at the following link: 4. Then double clicking on the zip file, this should open WinZip and keep the Fuseki folder open. Figure 1 : Fuseki Folders 5. Select the folder in the WinZip and drag it into the Fuseki folder, a prompt asking your permission as administrator. Press Continue. (see image below)

Double click on the xampp-win vc9-installer.exe inside the software folder with this manual OR download it at the following link: The following window should appear. Figure 3 : Xammp language selection 2. Select your preferred language (Note that this manual is written in English and all the examples are in English). Once selected a warning message may appear. Say ok and continue Figure 4 : Xampp warning message

8 4 3. Then a setup window will appear just press next. Figure 5 : Xampp setup wizad 4. A second window will ask what you want to install, leave all the option and just press next. Figure 6 : Xampp components

9 5 5. The next step asks what will be the destination folder, in this case you should modifiy it to C:\Program Files\xampp and then click Install. Figure 7 : Xampp location 6. This should launch the installation, you should see the following window appear(see below): Figure 8 : Xampp installation progress 7. Finally, a window informs you that the installation has finished, click on finish.

10 6 Figure 9 : Xampp completing NOTE: In some cases, users will be asked to install a Microsoft.net package, please accept and just press next until its installed. 2.3 Federation validation Service Installation: 1. Go to the following folder : Computer -> System (C:) -> xampp -> htdocs (C:\Program Files\xampp\htdocs\admstests), here create a folder called admstests. 2. Find the admstests.zip zip file in the Software folder. 3. Copy the admstests.zip zip file and paste it at the following location : Computer -> System (C:) -> xampp -> htdocs -> admstests. (C:\Program Files\xampp\htdocs\admstests) (if you have followed the instruction this folder should exist). A window will open to ask to confirm this action as administrator, press Continue. 11 7 4. Then double click on admstests.zip zip file this will open WinZip. (Keep admstests folder open and visible). Figure 11 : FVS folders 5. Then select, in WinZip all the files with your mouse OR by using Ctrl + A, then drag and drop into the admstests folder. A window will pop up and ask to provide administrative rights. Press Continue). Figure 12 : FVS unzip & copy 6. All the files inside the zip file should be inside the admstests folder.

12 8 3 Launching Development Environment 3.1 Using Fuseki 1. Launch the command prompt by clicking on the Start button found at the bottom left corner, and type in the search input box command prompt. Once it appears, click on it. Figure 13 : Fuseki launch 2. Then type the following command: cd C:\Program Files (x86)\fuseki\jena-fuseki SNAPSHOT. This should change your location. 3. Once in the correct file, Fuseki is launched with the following command: java -jar fuseki-server.jar --update --mem /admstests. If all went well, the following interface should be accessible when going to the following address: Figure 14 : Fuseki user interface

13 9 3.2 Using Xammp 1. Launch xampp by clicking on the Start button found at the bottom left corner, and type in the search input box xammp. Once it appears, right click on it and select the run as administrator option. Figure 15 : Xampp launch 2. Then click on the start button at the same level of the Apache Module to start the apache server. Figure 16 : Xampp start 3. Finally, open a browser and type the following URL: If all goes well you should have a screen that reassembles the following image.

15 11 4 Using the Federation Validation Service validate Any file that needs to be validated needs to copied into C:\Program Files\xampp\htdocs\admstests. Then a user needs to just type in the name of the file in the input text field.
