1 How to Publish StudyMate Files to Blackboard. This document will walk you through the steps necessary to successfully publish StudyMate activities to Blackboard. The following procedures are the recommended way to publish to Blackboard using StudyMate. Do not publish StudyMate files directly to Blackboard. Publishing and adding StudyMate activities to your Blackboard course is a three-step process: 1. Use StudyMate to publish files in the form of HTML & SWF files 2. Zip the three files created during publishing 3. Upload Zip file to your Blackboard course If you have any problems, or need assistance, uploading your StudyMate activities to Blackboard, please contact our Instructional Technology & Distance Learning (ITDL) department at Step 1: Use StudyMate to Publish files 1. When you are ready to publish StudyMate activities to Blackboard, click on the Preview & Publish tab in StudyMate. 2. Click the Publish side tab. 3. Click the Publish Wizard button. 4. 2 6. Click the radio button labeled HTML + SWF publishing setting. 7. Click the Next button. 8. Type in the title of your StudyMate activity in the title text area. 9. Next, we need to tell StudyMate where you would like to save the published files. 1. Click the Save As button located by number three. 2. Use the file dialog-box to specify that you want files to be published directly to your desktop area. 3. Then click the Create New folder icon found in the file dialog box window. 4. 3 5. Click the Open button. 6. Type in the activity file name, in the File name text area. 7. Click the Save button. 8. Click the Finish Button. 9. StudyMate will make all of your selected activities, and store them in the folder you created - when prompted click the OK button. 10. StudyMate will open a browser window so that you may test the published activities before moving on to the next step. Step 2: Zip Published Files 1. Locate and open the folder that you created/saved your StudyMate activities carried out in step one of this document. 2. You should see three files listed inside the folder you created: 1. An HTML document (example: bio169.htm) 2. A Java type of file (example: bio169.js) 3. A flash file (example: bio169.swf) 3. Select all three files. (press CTRL key + A key) 4. Making sure all three files are selected (generally all are shaded in blue) hover your mouse over any of the three selected files, and Right-Click. 5. Select Send To from the pop-up menu. 6. Select Compressed (zipped) folder. 7. 4 Step 3: Upload Zip File to Blackboard 1. Login to Blackboard, and go to the course where you want to add your StudyMate activity. 2. Once in the course, click on the Control Panel link. 3. Navigate to the content area you would like to add StudyMate activity. 4. Click the Add Item icon. 5. Type in the activity name in the name text area. 6. Key in any instructions you wish to pass on to your students in the text area provided. 7. Click the Browse button located in Section 2 of the add item form. 8. Using the file dialog box, navigate to the folder you created in step one, and select the ZIP file you created in step 2 by double-clicking on the file. 9. Key in the text "Click here to launch activity" in the Name of Link to File text area. 10. Open the drop-down box associated with the Special Action setting, and select Unpackage this file from drop-down listing. 11. Make sure you set the option Make the content available to Yes so your students will be able to access the activity. 12. Click the Submit button. 13. Next Blackboard will prompt you for which file in the zip file being uploaded to show the student first - always select the file with the file ".htm". Example: bio169.htm 14. If you would like your StudyMate activity to open in a new window, separate of your Blackboard course, be sure to click on the Yes radio button labeled Launch in new window. 15.
