Hosted by us, managed by you from any device After initial setup of selected hardware there is no need for any Client software installations. It uses captive portal technology to show login page in customer browser. Upon connecting to your network (using wireless cards or UTP cable), customer will be prompted to enter valid username and password to get Internet access. 7 Requirements 2 Requirements StartHotSpot is a cloud based platform. There is no limits regarding type of device or browsers over which you can access and configure starthotspot.com However, there are specific requirements and limitations regarding hardware which can be used for connecting to StartHotSpot. It should be selected and configured in SignUp process. Currently supported Hotspot models are Mikrotik, OpenWRT, Start Hotspot Android App, DDR-WRT / Chilli, LigoWave and many more others. List of all currently supported devices is available from We expect more in the future. 3

8 StartHotSpot SignUp 3 StartHotSpot SignUp SignUp and basic configuration of your account on StartHotSpot is done in couple easy steps: Visit and SignUp for Cloud WiFi HotSpot. Enter your address, Password, Confirm Password, First Name, Last Name, Company Name and click Sign Up Now to start the sign up process. 4

9 StartHotSpot SignUp The first stage of your sign up has been successful. To complete the process please check your . Within the you will find a link which you must click in order to activate your account. If the doesn't appear shortly, please be sure to check your spam. Some anti-spam filters modify the , so first copy any spam message to your inbox before clicking the link. 5

10 StartHotSpot SignUp Once when StartHotSpot account is activated, you will proceed with configuration. Create WiFi location: Enter WiFi Location name, City, HotSpot Name, select router model and add router MAC address. At this stage you have finished initial setup of your StartHotSpot account and should proceed with configuration of hardware and connect it to the portal. After clicking the button Continue, you will be transferred at StartHotSpot Home page. 6

11 Supported Routers 4 Supported Routers 4.1 Mikrotik Here are step by step instructions how you can connect and configure your WiFi Mikrotik router to work with your StartHotSpot account. Note: Reset your Mikrotik router to factory settings to avoid problems with some previous configuration set on it. Connect your Windows based computer by network cable to the LAN port. Go to browser and from URL browser files access to WebFig using From panel select IP - Services and be sure that API is Enabled. 7

15 Supported Routers When Router Data loading is finished be sure that you have in Interface bridge-local and press on Save button. When you press on Save button, settings from RouterAdmin will be saved on Mikrotik router. 11

16 Supported Routers You won t be able to access to Mikrotik router anymore using WebFig and WinBox is only way for access to Mikrotik in case that you need to make additional changes. After that all connected devices to Mikrotik router will get redirection in browser to connect.starthotspot.com/login page that you have set and configure from your account. 12

17 Supported Routers 4.2 OpenWRT Here are step by step instructions how you can connect and configure your Open WRT based router to work with your StartHotSpot account. Note: Reset your router to factory settings to avoid problems with some previous configuration set on it. Find your model of router in list available from Download factory version for your model. Connect your Windows based computer by network cable to the LAN port. Go to browser and access to router configuration using default IP address e.g From System Tools find Firmware Upgrade. 13

18 Supported Routers Click on Choose File. Navigate to the location where is downloaded factory version for your model and press on Open. Press on Upgrade button. 14

19 Supported Routers Confirm that you want to upgrade the firmware. During this process you will see information about processing. Once when it is finished you will get message Software Upgraded Successfully! Restarting 15

20 Supported Routers After that you will need to reconnect LAN cable or to Disable/Enable NIC card in order to get new valid IP address in x range from router. 16

21 Supported Routers Start your browser and in URL field type Username : admin Password : admin Press on Login button to access to Status tab. 17

22 Supported Routers On Status page you will see a MAC address of your OpenWRT router which will be used in the SignUp process. After selecting your HotSpot name, select as HotSpot model OpenWRT, and add your MAC address from Status tab. 18

23 Supported Routers From Setup page configure your OpenWRT router. Be sure that you set check option Autologin. This option is not active by default. Here you can set new Administrator password fro access to the router setup and configuration. Enable WiFi and set your SSID name On DNS select as Server to use GoogleDNS For Network select top use DHCP When you finish with the settings press on Save button on bottom of the page. 19

24 Supported Routers 4.3 LigoWave Here are step by step instructions how you can connect and configure your WiFi LigoWave router to work with your StartHotSpot account. Note: Reset your LigoWave router to factory settings to avoid problems with some previous configuration set on it. Connect your Windows based computer by network cable to the LAN port. Go to your computer Local Network Connection Properties. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IP 4) then press on Properties. Set IP address in x range (be sure not to set this ip address is reserved for communication with the router) 20

25 Supported Routers Go to browser and in URL field type Default login details are Username : admin and Password : admin01 Accept User Agreement if it appear and proceed with the setup with selecting Operating Country and press on Next. In next windows select to use LigoWave as Standalone AP and press on Finish. 21

26 Supported Routers Router will reset and when page is reloaded go to Settings panel Network Configuration section. Select Network mode: Router IPV4 and configure WAN (eth0) IP method: Dynamic, DNS servers: Obtain automatically in IP address field use address over which your LigoWave device connect to Internet. From Status panel Statistics section see MAC address written on Interface counters for Wired eth0. Here it is shown in format xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx. We will need this information in xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx format for future setup and for StartHotspot portal setup of your device MAC address. 22

27 Supported Routers We will now go back to Settings panel Wireless Configuration section. Under Network SSID click on configuration wheel button. 23

28 Supported Routers Here you should set your SSID name and activate Broadcast SSID. In Security Settings select "HotSpot (UAM)". In Radius section set as NA S ID your device MAC address in XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX format. Other details should be same as at the screen bellow. 30 Supported Routers Go to White/Black List section and add following: connect.starthotspot.com cdn.starthotspot.com starthotspot.com antamedia.com Pres on Done and Save changes. Disconnect your computer wired cable from router. Restart router and connect to it using WiFi. 26

31 5 5.1 Home Panel Home panel give you overview of your current StartHotSpot account details like, total number of users, bandwidth, total logins, average session duration, location users and location sessions and summery stats. 27

32 5.2 Users Panel Online Users Online Users panel displays users who are currently online. Interactive real-time table shows the following information about users: Username, IP address, MAC address, HotSpot IP, HotSpot MAC and Session Id. 28

33 5.2.2 HotSpot Users Hotspot Users are represented with account details: Username, and Active. Click on account in the list to access to Manage User panel. Here you can see and change following User Account details: - Username and Password - Time available for Internet usage is given in hours and minutes - Unlimited time should be used only if you don't wish to limit users by time. It's useful if you charge users by bandwidth or users pay monthly fees - Bandwidth quota Represent total bandwidth traffic available to a user for downloading or uploading. Quota is not a sum of download and upload traffic. If you define 100 GB as quota, a user can download and upload maximum of 100 GB, whichever comes first. It's usually displayed in MB, GB or TB depending on selected value. - Download and Upload rate is set by Internet pan in account creation and can be adjusted later for each user separately. It's usually displayed in KB (KBytes), Kb (Kbits), MB (MBytes) or Mb (Mbits) depending on selected value. - Expires from the first usage in will set expire date from the first login. For example, if you set to 10 days, a user will not be able to login on 11th day from first login. 29

34 Personal Details contains customer personal information and creates valuable addition to the rest of the user account options. Details include First and last name, Address, City, Postal code, State, Country, addresses, Mobile number, Birthday and Gender. 30

35 5.2.3 Create Quick User Create Quick User panel give you ability to create one account in couple seconds. All that you need to do is to choose Internet Plan and click on Generate button. Generated User Account details will be loaded and you can also print them. Press on Print button to print User details and it's code. 31

36 5.2.4 Create Users Standard method of account creation is done from Create Users panel. Select Internet Plan and choose Generate Count number. Press on Generate button to create accounts. Account details in list are: Username, Password, Time left, Quota, Download and Upload. 32

37 Press on Print for printing Accounts as list. Generated Accounts can Exported to CSV. 33

38 Print Tickets is most suitable for creation and printing of tickets that you can give immediately to a customer. 5.3 Admins From Admins panel you can modify your main Hotspot administrator account and/or to create New User administrator accounts. 34

39 Admin User account have following administrator details: - Username and Password (will be used to login to the application) - Active (if it is selected it will be visible in application) - Location Admin (if it is selected, it will be admin account only for specific location) - First and Last Name - Telephone and Mobile - Address and City - and Image 5.4 WiFi Locations WiFi Location panel give you preview over all configured locations on your StartHotSpot account. During SignUp on StartHotSpot.com you have made default Location. 35

40 You can set additional locations by pressing on New Location button. Each Location must have following details: - Name - This name name that will be seen in the system and analytics - Page - from the list below choose Page for new Location - Location Admin - Contact info (Address, City, , Phone) - Default language for location - Time zone (time zone in which the Location is located) - Location URL URL location for location 5.5 Payment Gateway Credit card processing option is very important if you want to automate your business. With this option you can set unattended StartHotSpot gateway and StartHotSpot will do all the job. Visitors who are willing to use your services can sign up for username and password, 36

41 choose a price plan and pay with their credit card. The processing occurs within seconds and your customers are able to continue using your services. StartHotSpot offers different credit card processing gateways. PCI DSS Compliance is ensured by allowing you to choose how/if you want to collect customers credit card details. From Payment Gateway panel you can see all configured payment gateways. To set your merchant Payment gateway, pres on New Payment Gateway button. From Payment Gateway dropdown list select your payment gateway and set account specific details. 5.6 Internet Plans Administrator or employee (with appropriate access rights) is able to modify any of the settings before generating accounts. However most of settings can be applied with simple selecting of Internet plan from list of already set internet plans. You can modify them, or create totally new price plans. The number of price plans in database is not limited. To set it go to Internet Plans panel. 37

42 To set new plan press on New Internet Plan button. Each Internet plan have following: Name - Name for configured plan Price - Cost of selected price plan. If tax is not specified, this is what customer pays Active - If it is selected, price plan is active and can be used for account generating Time -Time available for the Internet usage. It's measured in seconds and displayed in hours and minutes Unlimited Time - Enable this option if you do not wish to limit users by time. It's useful if you charge users by bandwidth or users pay monthly fees Bandwidth quota Represent total bandwidth traffic available to a user for downloading or uploading. 43 5.7 Splash Page Splash page is your portal page. It is very important that it look good. You deserve good first impression. From Splash Page panel you can see list of configured splash pages. To create new Splash page press on Create New Splash Page Simple button. Set Page Details like Page Name and Description and Configure Images for Background and Logo. If you wish you can load some of already configured Page Templates or to press on Continue button and configure it from the start. 39

45 With StartHotSpot Splash Page Editor you can easily create a splash page for your portal. On the left side is toolbar on which aligns components (widget) and pre-defined set of components (widgets), and customize them through the Body content panel. Every splash page that you create is responsive, and you can easily check how it s seen if you click on the Preview button. Each widget has its own editor, when the mouse hovers over of widgets appears on the Quick Menu. These are buttons which allow widget increases or decreases (from 1/12 till 12/12) Use these buttons to align widget (left, center, right) If we want to edit or delete the widget we use the following buttons Splash Page Editor allows to design in seconds stunning, fully responsive, mobile-ready splash pages, without the need of any HTML or CSS coding knowledge. Here are detailed information about each of available widgets and components that you can set. 41

53 5.7.8 Social Login Social login widget allows to have many different authentication methods in the page. Social networks: Facebook, Google+, Twitter, LinkedIn. For example, login through Facebook social actions with progressive engagement (Login,Like and Posts), user can login with his Facebook account. Social button type: widget allows to combine different login buttons, Circle button or Large button style. Widget align: Widget can be set to stand to the left, right or in the center of page. 49

They can be configured and set in couple easy steps from Media panel. Note: 2000 MB is limit for content 54

59 Press on New Media Advertisement button to add new content to Media. Set Ad Name and Add Description Configure Splash page Free access message, Advertiser logo, Connect button and Terms and agreement message. Set media in Video section and location from which it will be loaded. Configure delay time and skip text. Special offers require Action from end user. Set Advertiser promotion image, Action button, Continue To WiFi or Action URL. Press on Save button to finish Media setup process. 55

61 5.9 Analytics Sessions Logs Set of useful statistic details are given from Analytics panel. From Session Logs panel is available information about each session Start Time, username, Location Name, MAC, Bandwidth and Session Time. Double click on Username in list will load User Details for that session. 57

63 5.9.2 Visitors Analytics Visitors panel give you statistic information about the structure of visitors based on Gender, Age and gender share, number of Unique Visitors, Repeat Visitors per location, Single Time Visitor and information about used Device/OS/Browser. Those details can be filtered based on time intervals. 59

64 5.9.3 Sessions From Analytics Sessions panel is possible to get information about all sessions. It contain information about Location name, HotSpot Name, Session Time, Start Time, End Time, Username and MAC. Sessions can be filtered based on Session Time By Location, Session Time by Date, Top Locations. Those details can be filtered based on time intervals. 60

65 5.9.4 Loyalty Better insight in usage scenario and your users sessions are available from Loyalty Analytics panel. Loyalty can be filtered based on time intervals. Dashboard information give details about the Top User session, Time and bandwidth. Here you can see top 10 users in last 30 days. 61

66 5.9.5 Rejected Logins Information about rejected sessions are stored as well as information about the approved sessions. Rejected Logins panel show you Top Often Reasons for rejected login and Top Rejected Users. 62

67 5.9.6 Reports Analytics Reports panel show Impressions, User Statistics and Top Locations overview. Impression give details based on Location, User or specific details about the session. Those details can be filtered based on time intervals. Beside report contain Top Location details for: New User, Online Users and Max Online Users. 63
