3 ADQ14 systems design Separate requirements from different systems. There are 2 cases identified 1. Installation nodes with many channels, and thus a large installation per node. Node with many channels 2. Installation with few channels and a small installation per node but may nodes. Central hub Node with many channels Node with a single digitizer Central hub

4 ADQ14 19 chassis installation One white rabbit node with many digitizers. A set of digitizers are mounted in a, for example, 19 rack. The form factor can be, for example, MTCA.4 or PXIe / cpcie. Also PC with PCIe format for 19 rack installation is possible. The White Rabbit timing node is placed in a 19 unit. The connection from the WR unit is 10 MHz clock reference and a 1 PPS pulse. ADQ14 White Rabbit Solution USB data and control Local PC USB3 1 GbE Data/control 1GbE In this scenario, a local host PC (can be very small) is handling the ADQ and communicate with the system via a GbE link from the PC. The PC is then an ordinary PC in a network. The external White Rabbit timing unit is providing clock reference and time-stamp to the digitizer. 1 GbE 1 PPS sync 10 MHz clk ref Timing 1GbE network Advantage: There is a dedicated network for the White Rabbit and an independent channel for data and control.

The PC is then an ordinary PC in a network. USB3 1 GbE The external White Rabbit timing unit is providing clock reference and time-stamp to the digitizer. ADQ14 White Rabbit Solution 1 GbE 1 PPS sync 10 MHz clk ref The communicate with the node is via a GbE link, data and control is combined with White Rabbit packages. Timing 1GbE network Data/control 1GbE Advantage: One fiber connection only to the node.

ADQ14 White Rabbit Solution 1 GbE 1 PPS sync 10 MHz clk ref Timing 1GbE network 10 GbE point-to-point data and control UDP The digitizer is operating as a stand-alone unit controlled via a point-to-point 10GbE fiber connection. The external White Rabbit timing unit is providing clock reference and time-stamp to the digitizer. Data is transferred via the 10 GbE link. Note, that the 10 GbE link does not support retransmission of lost data packages. Therefore a point-to-point solution is required. Advantage: High speed data channel.
