1 Module Introduction Purpose This training module provides an overview of the serial communication interface (SCI), I 2 C interface, IrDA interface and Smart Card interface built into H8S series MCUs. 5 Asynchronous Operation After transmission of a Byte is completed: 1) Data in TDR (next byte) transfers to TSR 2) Set Transmit Data Register Empty (TDRE) bit and generate TXI interrupt if Transmit interrupt is enabled After reception of a Byte is completed: 1) Received Data transfers from RSR to RDR 2) Set Receive Data Register Full (RDRF) bit and generate RXI interrupt if Receive interrupt is enabled 5
6 SCI Synchronous Mode Transmit: synchronous with falling edges Receive: synchronous with rising edges 6
7 Synchronous Communication The synchronization clock is output from Master side Slave cannot send data until 1) TDRE is set to 0 2) Clock has been received 7
