They deliver increased user productivity and IT effectiveness across source code debugging, application abend analysis, data management, and application performance analysis. The tools have been enhanced to include: Improved performance Enhanced usability New function Overview Application Performance Analyzer for z/os, IBM Debug Tool Utilities and Advanced Functions for z/os, Fault Analyzer for z/os, File Manager for z/os, and File Export for z/os provide application developers with a powerful suite of problem determination tools. The latest tools will provide additional emphasis on the building of service-oriented architecture (SOA) applications, tighter integration among the problem determination tools and other related tools sets, and an ongoing emphasis on supporting and exploiting the latest subsystem levels. These capabilities, in addition to the ongoing commitment to deliver additional customer requested functions, make the problem determination tools a set of products that are second to none. Application Performance Analyzer for z/os V7.1 helps programmers and systems personnel tune applications and resolve performance constraints. It is a non-intrusive application performance analyzer that aids developers in the design, development, and maintenance cycles. Debug Tool Utilities and Advanced Functions for z/os V7.1 builds on the function in Debug Tool for z/os V7.1, providing even more debugging capability. It helps you debug applications running in a variety of environments, such as CICS, IMS, DB2 Stored Procedures, and UNIX System Services. To support the latest DB2 V8 and CICS V3.1 requirements, it also includes features to help developers identify old OS/VS and VS COBOL II source code and to migrate the code to Enterprise COBOL. Fault Analyzer for z/os V7.1 assists developers in analyzing and fixing application and system failures. It offers programmers the information required to help determine the cause of failure and provides assistance in how to resolve the problem. Fault Analyzer delivers expanded application coverage and related business value beyond traditional applications with integrated support for WebSphere Application Server for zseries and Java. Users can leverage one tool to assist in mixed workload application abend analysis, including 64-bit DB2 V8 support. 2 File Manager for z/os V7.1 provides comprehensive, user-friendly tools for working with z/os data sets, DB2 data, or IMS data. The developer can create, browse, copy, edit, print, and format or reformat data files in the most popular z/os file formats. Programmers can manipulate data using COBOL and PL/I record layouts in batch and an online facility. The FM/CICS component provides similar functions on CICS file, temporary storage, and transient data queue resources. File Export for z/os V1.2 offers highly selective data copying capabilities that simplify the complex task of populating test environments, or migrating applications to new or additional environments. This powerful tool provides flexible methods of exporting and then importing related sets of DB2, IMS, VSAM, and sequential data. It can generate test data on demand and support altering sensitive data while maintaining data relationships. The ability to :qramble" sensitive information while extracting the data is a highly sought after security related function. Key prerequisites Refer to the Software requirements section. Planned availability dates For Application Performance Analyzer V7.1, Debug Tool Utilities and Advanced Functions V7.1, Fault Analyzer V7.1, and File Manager V7.1 September 29, 2006, English October 27, 2006, Japanese June 15, 2007, Korean For File Export V1.2 September 29, 2006, English March 16, 2007, Japanese Description Application Performance Analyzer V7.1 New function Threshold monitoring will permit users to define thresholds for jobs in terms of CPU usage, EXCP count, or job duration, that when exceeded will cause Application Performance Analyzer to monitor that job as defined by the user. As a companion function to threshold monitoring, Application Performance Analyzer now permits comparison of two observation reports to show the relevant differences. (This will be delivered via PTF in fourth quarter 2006.) Workload Manager (WLM) influence on performance of applications by showing its impact on the application can be supported. Host variable support for SQL reports is included. Provides examples of how to invoke Application Performance Analyzer from the Tivoli /OMEGAMON Tivoli Enterprise Portal (TEP) using the batch interface to Application Performance Analyzer. An API invokes Application Performance Analyzer so that automation of Omegamon to Application Performance Analyzer is now much simpler. Application Performance Analyzer now provides support for DB2 V9. In addition, APA provides support for Stored Procedures written in Java. Support for Java code running in the TSO address space is provided. Users can now select observations in CICS by termid selection, which provides another powerful way to isolate transactions to monitor in CICS. Source mapping C/C++ support is delivered so that C and or C++ applications that run in the z/os address space may be monitored by Application Performance Analyzer. 3 Application Performance Analyzer for IMS has been significantly enhanced to support IMS transactions. As a result the number of IMS reports is now 21 which greatly improves the ability to analyze the influences of IMS on application performance. Application Performance Analyzer has been enhanced to provide recommendations support, which is an initial set of recommendations, to be enhanced in future updates at a later date. CICS support clarification: Application Performance Analyzer supports CICS. CICS monitoring includes monitoring by specific transaction or transaction prefix with wildcards. Application Performance Analyzer V7 (and the prior V1 product) do not provide CICS+ tracing support. Debug Tool Utilities and Advanced Functions V7.1 New function Monitor and automonitor enhancements Delivers a new command, SET MONITOR WRAP, to direct Debug Tool to display the value of a monitored or automonitored variable either wrapped in the monitor window or on a single scrollable line. Displays output in one line, and does not overlap across several lines. Allows for scroll left and right of the monitor value area for large values. Provides a new command, SET MONITOR DATATYPE, to direct Debug Tool to display the datatype of a variable for monitored and automonitor variables. Provides variable attributes. The user can display the source for a compile unit or CSECT (CU) prior to the application's loading of the load module containing the CU and/or prior to execution of the CU. When a source is displayed in this situation, the user can then examine existing breakpoints, set new breakpoints, etc. These breakpoints will then be applied when the CU becomes active. This is also available for WebSphere Developer for zseries and WebSphere Developer Debugger for zseries. The panel layout and parameter arrangement is improved in the Create Private Message Regions function of the Manage IMS Programs section of the Debug Tool Utilities functions. A user exit has been added that provides a way for developers to specify a TEST run-time option string that can be used in the DB2 Stored Procedure, IMS TM, or batch environments to invoke either the Main Frame Interface (MFI), WebSphere Developer for zseries, or WebSphere Developer Debugger for zseries. A utility program, EQALANGP, is delivered, which can be used to create a readable listing from a Fault Analyzer side file (IDILANGX or EQALANGX) or a SYSDEBUG file generated by using the COBOL TEST(,,SEPARATE) option. This might be useful if compiler listings are not kept in order to conserve DASD space, as the utility program is able to format the side file or SYSDEBUG file in a way that resembles the original compiler listing. Note: The EQALANGP program shipped as a component of Debug Tool Utilities and Advanced Functions is functionally equivalent to the IDILANGP program shipped as a component of Fault Analyzer for z/os. The Debug Tool Coverage Utility (DTCU) SVC installer is updated to help you ensure that the SVC numbers that you choose to use for the DTCU breakpoint SVCs do not conflict with another product's SVC numbers. The Coverage Utility Annotated Listing report is updated for COBOL to add an HTML version that contains colored lines indicating statements not executed and recomputed statistics based on the annotations in the listing instead of the raw coverage data. In addition, a new HTML Targeted Coverage Report is available for COBOL that contains an Annotated Listing with lines that were changed between two source versions highlighted. A new command, SET LIST TABULAR, is added to direct Debug Tool to format the output from the LIST command to match that of the MONITOR LIST command. A new command, DESCRIBE LOADMODS, is added to direct Debug Tool to provide a formatted display of all load modules or a specific load module known to Debug Tool. It includes information about where the load module is loaded, size, name, and programs and CSECTs contained in each load module. As has been the case with previous releases of Debug Tool Utilities and Advanced Functions, ongoing integration and enhancements continue to be added to support Debug Tool Utilities and Advanced Functions working in conjunction with WebSphere Developer for zseries and WebSphere Developer Debugger for zseries. 4 Debug Tool for z/os V7.1: Debug Tool for z/os V7.1 ships with Debug Tool Utilities and Advanced Functions for z/os V7.1. For more information on Debug Tool for z/os V7.1, refer to , dated September 12, SOA CICS Web Services Awareness CICS Web Services data areas are formatted to assist the CICS Web Services programmer. Fault Analyzer initial integration with WebSphere Developer for zseries Technology Preview Although not part of the initial delivery of Fault Analyzer V7.1, an initial integration technology preview will be provided in conjunction with the next version of WebSphere Developer for zseries. Support for IBM hardware and software (currency) CICS terminal access for Fault Analyzer interactive analysis The Fault Analyzer functions available from ISPF under TSO can also be used with CICS as the terminal manager. The ISPF look and feel is maintained in this CICS transaction-based environment, permitting the review and analysis of fault entries in history files without the need for a TSO logon. XPLINK support New function has been added to support analysis of 31-bit addressing XPLINK calling convention program abends. WebSphere and Java support currency Ongoing support for the new versions of WebSphere and Java is provided. Enterprise PL/I side file support by way of a fourth quarter 2006 update The Enterprise PL/I TEST(,,SEPARATE) SYSDEBUG side files are supported as input for compile listing information in Fault Analyzer analysis reports. MQSeries Application PD enhancements MQSeries enhancements to improve API information and MQSeries return code diagnostics. Assembler DSECT mapping support Assembler language support now includes DSECT variable mapping of storage areas for an assembler program when the assembler side files are available. PL/I compile option flexibility Additional flexibility has been added to the PL/I compile options that are accepted by the IDILANGX compile listing parsing utility that generates Fault Analyzer side files. Usability Improved interactive reanalysis report navigation Interactive reanalysis menus have been re-structured to improve accessibility to frequently used data and facilitate faster navigation around the analysis information. Functional enhancements CICS System Dump (additional domains) For CICS system programmers the system dump formatting now has additional CICS domains available to enhance debugging of CICS System p problems. 5 CICS Storage Violation Analysis improvements Improved logic to detect and analyze CICS storage violations is added. This is particularly effective when the CICS environment is set up to take a system dump if CICS detects a storage violation. Improved side file match checking Additional checking of program data has been added to improve the selection of the compile listing or side file used to provide source code information for the abend. CICS duplicate dump criteria specification enhancements The "NoDup CICSfast" option has a new sub-option to include processing of 'EXEC CICS DUMP' calls in the fast analysis signature checking. This lets the explicit dump calls be eligible for fast duplicate processing when repeated requests come from the same program call point. IMS NoDup ImageFast option (fast path duplicate processing of IMS ABENDS) The "NoDup ImageFast IMS" process is a new option to provide similar fast dispatching of repeat abends for an IMS transaction environment to the "NoDup CICSfast" processing that has been available for CICS. The process efficiently generates an abend signature that is checked against a repository of recent abends to see if the signature matches a prior abend for which analysis has been performed. If such a prior matching signature is found, the current abend is quickly processed as a duplicate of the prior abend. The signature repository is kept at an MVS image level. Performance enhancements Analysis performance Several analysis processing performance enhancements have been made along with other general performance improvements. DeferredReport enhancements for CPU management during abnormally high abend rates New function has been added to the "DeferredReport" option to allow CICS environments to set the number of TCBs that may be started in the CICS region to run Fault Analyzer analysis, and the length of the queue of any abending tasks waiting to use one of the TCBs for abend analysis. This function is particularly useful to busy CICS systems where an unexpected inrush of abends might cause delays and over-commitment of CPU resource. By tuning this option, one can elect to have excess abends that cause CPU delay, skip Fault Analyzer processing and fall through to CICS transaction dump processing. Decreased TSO region size requirement Design changes to reduce the TSO region size required for interactive reanalysis of fault entries have been implemented. These changes target some specific cases where large region sizes were required as well as providing some general reductions. Fault report creation in storage constrained environment A new function is called if Fault Analyzer does not have sufficient storage to capture and analyze an abend, so that an MVS dump of the abend is created and recorded in the history file for later analysis. In doing this, the new function provides the data in the MVS dump to help analyze the problem that in previous versions of Fault Analyzer would not get a fault entry created. File Manager V7.1 New component File Manager for CICS: File Manager for CICS provides File Manager access to CICS resources under a CICS transaction. 6 VSAM files Temporary Storage Queues Transient Data Queues File Manager for CICS users can view and, if authorized, change the status of supported local and remote CICS resources. File Manager CICS users can view other File Manager users and applications enqueued on CICS resources and, if authorized, force off these CICS resource holders. If authorized, users can perform File Manager Base and File Manager IMS tasks from the File Manager CICS transaction. Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) support: XML generation File Manager V7 allows the generation of XML data from files. A File Manager template that describes the data record layout is required. The XML tags are generated based on the field names from the template, and the XML content comes from the data. A number of options are available for the handling of invalid and unprintable data. File Manager initial integration with WebSphere Developer for zseries Technology Preview Although not part of the initial delivery of File Manager V7.1, the initial integration technology preview will be provided in conjunction with the next version of WebSphere Developer for zseries. Support for IBM hardware and software Supports fullpack access to large DASD volumes (of greater than 64K tracks) Supports the large block interface (LBI) for tape devices Supports extended sequential data sets Supports large sequential data sets Support for DB2 V9 New function all components The File Manager Editor and Browser FIND, CHANGE and EXCLUDE commands are extended to increase their flexibility in accepting command syntax. This increases the similarity of commands in File Manager to commands in the ISPF editor. The editor / browser FIND and CHANGE commands are also enhanced to support the PREFIX, SUFFIX, and WORD parameters as in the ISPF editor. All File Manager utilities are enhanced to allow specification of template data sets by Data Definition (DD) name. New and enhanced function File Manager Base: File Manager base edit and browse enhancements A new alphanumeric HEX data type known as AX, is added to the File Manager Base template support. When an alphanumeric field is identified as AX, it is displayed in long hex (LHEX) format by the File Manager editor, browser, and utilities. The File Manager editor allows an AX value to be updated with another hex value. The LHEX format displays a hex value on a single line. Every byte of the data is shown in two-byte hexadecimal. File Manager V7 includes enhancements for editing shared VSAM files. File Manager V7 will detect if shared VSAM file records have been modified during the edit session, at user SAVE time. The user can review any record differences and choose whether to commit the changes. Additional commands are available for operations such as saving individual records and refreshing records which may have been updated. zfs files are supported in the same way as HFS files. For many functions, progress indicators will be shown for long running operations. 7 Allows records to be written to output data sets. The following result data sets can be chosen individually: inserted, deleted, matched, and changed record data sets. Allows the user to select which records are to be reported in the LONG format report. The following can be selected separately: inserted, deleted, matched, and changed records. Includes an option to stop Compare utility processing after a user specified number of differences is found. The Data Set Print (DSP) utility is enhanced to print SNGL (single formatted) records with optional additional field information such as the field's PICTURE clause, starting location, data type, and so on. The Display VTOC (DVT) utility is enhanced to display information for an SMS storage group, or for a set of storage groups specified by a name with wildcard characters. DVT is also enhanced to display information based on device type, device address (unit), and volume status. In the volume / data set display, the number of data sets can be limited. The Catalog Services (SCS) utility, File Manager option 3.4, is enhanced to allow display of dates in YY/MM/DD format instead of YYYY.DDD format. SCS is also enhanced to limit the number of entries retrieved before display. VSAM data set info is enhanced with the last modified date. The VSAM extents information has been enhanced. The Catalog Services (SCS) utility panel, File Manager option 3.4, allows the building of alternate VSAM indexes. Existing alternate indexes may also be deleted and rebuilt. These operations can be requested interactively, or IDCAMS statements can be generated for subsequent batch execution. Segmented record support enhancements The type of a segment can be identified using not only data in the current segment but also using data in segments preceding the current segment in the physical record. Segment selection is changed to so that the segments in a physical record are selected, provided the physical record contains at least one segment satisfying the selection criteria for each segment type. Batch template support In File Manager Base, a new batch and interactive utility allows the user to generate simple one-copybook templates from an input COBOL copybook or PL/I include file PDS. A new batch and interactive utility allows the user to update existing templates by rereading the copybooks that originally created them. New function File Manager IMS: Batch template support A new batch and interactive utility allows the user to copy File Manager IMS templates and views, update them from possibly changed copybooks, modify IMS templates for use with new IMS databases of similar structure, and allow IMS views to be used with other than the original template. IMS Edit Batch (IEB) and other File Manager IMS utility enhancements A new IMS Batch Browse (IBB) utility is added to allow read-only IEB processing. This is particularly useful when using dynamic PSBs. An online dialog is added for the creation of IPR (IMS Print utility) jobs. This eases the process of printing the contents of a view of a data base. Online dialogs are also provided for creation of IEB and IBB jobs. View and template criteria can be specified by DD name in IEB and also in other IMS utilities IPR, IXB, and ILB (the IMS Print, Extract, and Load utilities). A related enhancement mentioned above across all components of File Manager is that template data sets can be specified by DD name as well. IEB capabilities and restrictions are clarified and enforced when executing in two different modes: Using vs. not using a view. The main concept is that when using a view, IEB keeps careful track of the current position of the database, even when there are non-unique keys or no keys on segments. When not using a view, awareness of the current position is the responsibility of the user REXX proc. Here are some associated changes: A new SAVEIMS function commits changes explicitly during IEB execution. 8 The existing CHKPFREQ keyword, which performs an "automatic save" during IEB processing, will work only while IEB is processing using a view. A new VIEWPOSN function establishes position on a segment in a way that the position is known to FM, prior to starting to use a view. A new GETIMS HOLD option enables an IEB REXX proc that is not using a view to hold a position. A job step condition code can be set during execution of an IEB REXX proc. File Manager IMS audit logging enhancements Audit logging can be required at File Manager install time optionally for DL/I access, and optionally by IMS subsystem for BMP access Additional information is provided to the File Manager IMS security audit log exit File Manager IMS logs deletion of all children when a parent segment is deleted New function File Manager DB2 File Manager DB2 has new installation controls over displaying DB2 groups, including the ability to display only active DB2 groups. The File Manager DB2 Export utility allows export of DB2 data in a number of additional formats: DB2 external format that is used by the DB2 UNLOAD utility. The format used by the DB2 sample unload program DSNTIAUL. A tailorable File Manager export format with multiple options to control handling of NULL values and options for various column data types. A delimited text format. One example output that can be generated is CSV or "comma separated variable" output. Audit logging of File Manager DB2 Browse operations can be turned off. File Manager DB2 is enhanced to warn if the CCSID of the terminal does not match the DB2 CCSID. File Export V1.2 New function Exploitation of targeted DB2 SQL optimization capabilities significantly improved export performance. Increased flexibility in exporting data due to the addition of a number of new user interface and export processing options in response to customer requests is provided. Some of these include: Added the FIND command, including support of partial DB2 table names, when searching for tables Added the ability to SORT table lists based on various attributes Added a "statistics" report when loading IMS data Added finer control of relationship traversal by allowing user to indicate the direction in which a relationship is followed, as well as how many levels to follow Added intelligence to the sizing of intermediate data sets based on RUNSTATS statistics Increased the number of IMS DBDLIB data sets supported for more sophisticated exports Added an option for deleting target data sets, if they exist More intuitive user interface due to the adoption of interface techniques used in other related IBM products is delivered. 9 Added the ability to remove or display the Panel ID Added the ability to display the current maintenance level Increased the number of lines available for batch JCL from four to unlimited Improved user productivity improved because of the adoption of a more intuitively obvious user interface that utilizes fewer panels and shares these panels across all data sources Added National Language Support Added support for DB2 long names Use with additional testing tools The problem determination tools in this announcement can be used closely in conjunction with IBM Workload Simulator, IBM Application Time Facility for z/os, IBM Rational Performance Tester for z/os, and Rational Functional Tester Extension for Terminal-based Applications, when additional testing needs are required. Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act The products in this announcement are capable as of its general availability, when used in accordance with associated IBM documentation, of satisfying the applicable requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, provided that any assistive technology used with the product properly interoperates with it. Value Unit-based pricing Value Unit pricing for eligible zseries IPLA programs enables a lower cost of incremental growth and enterprise aggregation. Each zseries IPLA product with Value Unit pricing has a single price per Value Unit and a conversion matrix, called Value Unit Exhibit, for converting from some designated measurement to Value Units. Most commonly Millions of Service Units (MSUs) is the measurement designated by IBM to be converted to Value Units. Some other measurements are engines or messages. Since MSUs are the most common measurement, that measurement will be used for the remainder of this description. Value Unit pricing offers price benefits for customers. For each zseries IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the "required license capacity." Each of the various Value Unit Exhibits stipulate that the larger your required license capacity, the fewer Value Units per MSU you will need. Value Unit Exhibits are uniquely identified by a three-digit code and referred to using the nomenclature VUExxx, where xxx is the three digit code. Subsequent acquisitions of Value Unit priced programs offers additional price benefits for customers. The quantity of each zseries IPLA program that you have acquired is referred to as "entitled license capacity." If you wish to grow your entitled license capacity for a zseries IPLA program, the calculation to determine additional needed Value Units is based upon the number of Value Units already acquired. For each zseries IPLA program with Value Unit Pricing, you should: Determine the required license capacity, in MSUs Aggregate the MSUs across the enterprise Convert the total MSUs to Value Units, using the applicable Value Unit Exhibit, and Multiply the price per Value Unit by the total number of Value Units to determine the total cost. To simplify conversion from the designated measurement to VUs or vice-versa, use the Value Unit Converter Tool.
