1 Software Announcement September 21, 2004 IBM Fault Analyzer for z/os V5.1, IBM File Manager for z/os V5.1, and IBM Debug Tool Utilities and Advanced Functions for z/os V5.1 help improve application delivery Overview IBM Fault Analyzer for z/os, IBM File Manager for z/os, and IBM Debug Tool Utilities and Advanced Functions for z/os provide application developers with a powerful suite of problem determination tools. These tools help improve application delivery throughout the application life cycle by providing increased user productivity and IT effectiveness across application abend analysis, data management, and source code debugging. Fault Analyzer assists the developer in analyzing and fixing application and system failures. It offers the programmer the information required to help determine the cause of failure and provides assistance in how to resolve the problem. Fault Analyzer V5.1 expands application coverage and related business value beyond just traditional applications with integrated support for WebSphere Application Server for zseries V5 and Java. Now users can leverage one tool to assist in mixed workload application abend analysis, including 64-bit DB2 V8 support. File Manager helps the developer to create, edit, print, and format or reformat data files in the most popular z/os and OS/390 file formats. It enables your programmers to manipulate data using COBOL and PL/I record layouts in batch and an online facility. File Manager V5.1 provides performance enhancements with an expanded set of commands, numerous usability enhancements, and integrated support for 64-bit DB2 V8. Debug Tool Utilities and Advanced Functions for z/os V5.1 assists the developer in the source-level debugging for compiled applications. IBM Debug Tool for z/os V5.1 now ships with Debug Tool Utilities and Advanced Functions for z/os V5.1, reducing ordering and installation complexities. Not only can Debug Tool Utilities and Advanced Functions for z/os V5.1 help you debug Language Environment (LE) enabled applications, integrated support has been expanded to include non-le Assembler. IBM s latest versions of the Problem Determination tools continue the trend of protecting your tooling investments, maximizing IT productivity, with affordable tooling. 2 Description IBM Fault Analyzer V5.1 WebSphere and Java support improvements: WebSphere and Java information has been integrated into the standard interactive reanalysis report in the System-Wide Information section. CICS system dump analysis performance and usability enhancements Analysis of many new domains including Web, Java, Sockets, and Bridge LE heap storage analysis added New fast-path commands for easier navigation between CICS domains CFA transaction improvements, including a feature that permits SDUMP screening to improve performance when capturing SVC dumps and improved control over the operation of Fault Analyzer in a CICS region CICS transaction abend analysis improvements Information on CICS recovery manager files and temporary storage has been added to the report. The ability to select trace entries interactively. Additional CICS trace entries now available. Additional IBM File Manager linkage From the interactive report, the VSAM files involved in an abend can now be browsed or edited with File Manager for z/os at the file record active at the time of the abend. The current template is used for VSAM or QSAM data sets. Formatting user exit support: A new user exit type permits users to add a separate section to the report, containing information which might be specific to their environment. In the interactive report, REXX exits of this type can be executed on demand. User interface improvements An option has been added to the interactive report services pull-down menu to list all user notes that exists in the current fault entry. A new ISPF interface command, STCK, has been provided, which can be used to convert a binary STORE CLOCK value to human-readable date and time. A new ISPF interface command, DISASM, has been provided, which can be used to perform disassembly of object code at a given address in storage. The ability to establish a view-specific Fault Entry List display column configuration and initial fault entry selection has been provided. The ability for users to specify their own complete job card for batch reanalysis jobs, without needing to edit the generated JCL, has been provided through a new option on the Batch Reanalysis Options display. General fault report improvements Improved abend-specific diagnostics for many common abends More complete information about the data sets that modules were loaded from Improved Event Summary section to provide better information about the location of an event Enhanced formatting of parameters for the last IMS call Product administration improvements Support for renamed COBOL SYSDEBUG files has been added by utilizing the Debug Tool for z/os EQAUEDAT exit to improve Debug Tool compatibility Support for substitution symbols in IDIVIEWS data set names to provide more flexible history file view management User-specific reporting or statistical analysis of history file content has been provided, with a sample job that gives mapping information of the $$INDEX history file description member Enhancements to the IDILANGP utility to read COBOL SYSDEBUG files Serviceability improvements Changed location for message IDI0047S, allowing SLIP MSGID capture of Fault Analyzer internal abends with an SVC dump. New function to detect Fault Analyzer real-time execution exceeding a dynamically calculated maximum execution time, and if so, issuing message IDI0092S and cancelling the analysis. The IDI0092S message allows SLIP MSGID capture to take an SVC dump. Fault Analyzer service level is now visible in the LE traceback. IBM File Manager V5.1 Enhancements across all components Improved documentation The File Manager manuals have been reorganized with a task orientation as well as reference sections. Enhanced functions, including: Customization and User Settings -- Provide an option to specify the disposition of a print data set Data definition (copybook and template) support -- Expand field reference numbers and field names in template panels -- Provide numerous enhancements to the File Manager Template editor -- Enhance access to data definitions in Library Management Systems via a user exit -- Enhance support for templates generated from PL/I copybooks containing REFER variables and varying data strings

4 Enhance the formatted print capability Provide options on the setting of the CAPS (uppercasing of input) control in File Manager DB2 edit sessions Improve security by providing the option to access customized views of the DB2 catalog, instead of accessing the catalog tables directly During File Manager DB2 Import, allow for fail and/or rollback when the number of duplicate errors reaches a user-specified value During File Manager DB2 Import, allow deleting all rows of the database prior to import IBM Debug Tool Utilities and Advanced Functions V5.1 Support for non-language Environment assembler debugging: You can now debug assembler application programs whether they run under the Language Environment runtime or not (with some restrictions as documented in the Debug Tool V5 User s Guide). Support is provided for debugging under TSO, batch, and CICS. Most MVS and CICS services are supported. Remote debug automonitor support: Support has been added to display automonitor output in the Monitors pane for remote debug using the Compiled Language Debugger component of WebSphere Studio Enterprise Developer. This automonitor function only displays variables which are referenced by the current line, and is enabled via the SET AUTOMONITOR command. CALL %HOGAN support: The CALL %HOGAN command has been added to invoke Computer Science Corporation s KORE-HOGAN application. As a result of entering the CALL %HOGAN command, control is transferred to the KORE-HOGAN application, and on exiting this application, control is returned to Debug Tool where you would be able to continue the debug session. Debug Tool for z/os V5.1: Debug Tool for z/os V5.1 now ships with Debug Tool Utilities and Advanced Functions for z/os V5.1, reducing ordering and installation complexities. Value Unit based pricing Value Unit pricing for eligible zseries IPLA programs enables a lower cost of incremental growth and enterprise aggregation. Each zseries IPLA product with Value Unit pricing has a single price per Value Unit and a conversion matrix, called Value Unit Exhibit, for converting from some designated measurement to Value Units. Most commonly Millions of Service Units (MSUs) is the measurement designated by IBM to be converted to Value Units. Some other measurements are engines or messages. Since MSUs are the most common measurement, that measurement will be used for the remainder of this description. Value Unit pricing offers price benefits for customers. For each zseries IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the required license capacity. Each of the various Value Unit Exhibits stipulate that the larger your required license capacity, the fewer Value Units per MSU you will need. Value Unit Exhibits are uniquely identified by a three-digit code and referred to using the nomenclature VUExxx, where xxx is the three-digit code. Subsequent acquisitions of Value Unit priced programs offers additional price benefits for customers. The quantity of each zseries IPLA program that you have acquired is referred to as entitled license capacity If you wish to grow your entitled license capacity for a zseries IPLA program, the calculation to determine additional needed Value Units is based upon the number of Value Units already acquired. For each zseries IPLA program with Value Unit Pricing, you should: Determine the required license capacity in MSUs Aggregate the MSUs across the enterprise Convert the total MSUs to Value Units using the applicable Value Unit Exhibit Multiply the price per Value Unit by the total number of Value Units to determine the total cost To simplify conversion from the designated measurement to VUs or vice-versa, use the Value Unit Converter Tool. IPLA and Subscription and Support considerations IPLA licenses can be transferred from one machine to another within, but not limited to, an enterprise. The customer may aggregate the capacity for all the processors the product is operated on to achieve a more economic price. This will result in a single Proof of Entitlement. It is the customer s responsibility to manage the distribution of Value Units within the limits of the entitlement of the product license. Subscription and Support must cover the same capacity as the product license entitlement. Subscription and Support will be available in the country in which the agreement is made. Proofs of Entitlement (PoEs) are required for all authorized use.
