3 Introduction Welcome to MapInSite Online, a user friendly map based application that allows for quick and easy online access to demographic information. This User Guide contains all the information needed to get started with analysis- from creating trade areas to running standard and custom reports. MapInSite Online allows the user to: Use standard census and postal boundaries for analysis Create custom polygons Create custom circular radii Thematic mapping Reporting from numerous standard reports Reporting from custom reports Map layout /printing Getting Started Sign In to MapInSite Online at the top right of the screen, by clicking on Sign-In and entering your address and the password you selected at registration. If you do not have an account, simply click Sign Up to start the registration for the service. Once signed in, the Mapping screen will appear. This screen is where the user defines the specific geography on which to run the demographic reports.

4 Step 1: Define Your Trade Area* (menu option) *Please note: any trade area drawn or displayed on the map will be automatically included in your reports. They do not need to be selected. If you wish to not include a trade area, simply turn the trade area/geography display off in My Geographies Input Address: Create trade area(s) around an exact location by entering a full street address in the Address box. Choose the desired number and distances of circles to draw around the location. Click Draw to create the trade area(s). If you only wish to display a pushpin at the selected location, select Find geocoded location only then click Draw. Note: Circles can be created using Miles, Kilometres or Minutes (Drive Time). Input Lat/Long: Give the Circle/Drivetime a name. Input the Latitude/Longitude coordinates. Choose the desired number and distances of circles to draw around the location. Click Draw.

5 Draw Polygon: Give the polygon a name. Click Draw. In the map work area, click once where the polygon is to begin and continue clicking until the desired polygon is created. The polygon is finished by double-clicking on the beginning point. Draw Circle: Choose the distances for the concentric circles in miles, kilometres, or minutes. The beginning point is zero i.e. 0-3 miles, 0-5 miles etc. Click Draw and then click on the map where the desired centre point will be. The trade area(s) will then draw and be selected- ready for reporting. Standard Geography: Click on Standard Geography to access a list of Standard Geographies. The geographies presented in the Standard Geography section represent geographies from Census and Postal Boundaries. The geography tree allows users to easily navigate through subsets of geographies by expanding and collapsing the tree and placing checkmarks in the boxes beside the chosen geography. Multiple selections can be made in this section. Open each geography tree node to access a specific geography. Select each geography you would like to include in your geography display by putting a checkmark beside each on or click on a higher node to select all. Name your geography selection and click the blue Draw button. Your geographies will then be displayed and preselected to run reports or create thematic maps.

6 Thematic Mapping To create a thematic map, select Thematic Map from the main menu.

7 On the Choose Variable drop down menu, select from a list of variables. Your last variable selections will be made available or choose More Variables... to select from your licensed variable list. If More Variables...is chosen, simply open the nodes to select your variable and click Add. You will then be automatically returned to the Thematic Map window with the variable pre-selected. Next, Choose Geography to select the standard or custom geography you want to create a thematic map for. Standard Geographies are Census and Postal Geographies whereas Custom Geographies would include your custom drawn circles and polygons, geography selections previously made that are currently displayed on the map or imported Trade Areas. At this point, you have two choices on how to draw the thematic map. You can Draw based on current screen display which will fill the screen with the selected geographies. An alternative option is that you can Draw based on a User Drawn Polygon. This option allows you to draw a polygon by clicking on the map. Click once where the polygon is to begin and continue clicking until the desired polygon is created. The polygon is finished by double-clicking on the beginning point. The thematic map will then be drawn within this polygon. MapInSite also offers the ability to modify the colors of the thematic map. To do this, click Modify Legend.

8 MapInSite creates 5 equal ranges for your thematic map. If there is no data value for a range, it is not displayed. A full list of the ranges used to create your map is contained in the Ranges dropdown. To change the color of any range, simply click the Select Color box dropdown. Choose from a Web Palette, RGB Sliders, HSB or HSV. Once a color has been selected, click Apply Color to the desired range. To refresh the map and legend with the newly selected colors, click the Refresh button. To add the legend to the map, click Add Legend. Once clicked, a legend window will appear on the map. To add labels, click on the Toggle Labels button. This will add labels to your map which can then be repositioned. To reposition a label, hover over the label to be moved. A crosshair will be displayed which will allow you to click and drag the label to the desired position.

9 For those who wish to use the same thematic colors for each map produced and set the opacity, MapInSite allows for the creation of Default Colours and Opacity. To activate, click the Default Thematic Colors and Opacity button and choose them in the same manner as Modify Legend above. Color opacity ranges from 25 to is completely opaque whereas 25 is nearly translucent. These are Microsoft Bing Map ranges. If your thematic map does not initially appear with the correct opacity, simply open this window, select a new default opacity, close this window and click Draw to redraw the thematic. Custom Ranges can also be added if the preset ranges do not suit your needs. Click the Custom button to initiate the custom range window. In this window, click Populate to populate the ranges with the

10 current values. At this point, you can modify each range to your specific needs. Click Save once complete. Then, simply click the Modify button and refresh the map. Reports The reports menu item allows the user to select reports from a list of standard reports or to create custom reports. The Reports section contains all the tools the user will need to produce various demographic reports. These include: Custom report titles Report output in various user defined formats (PDF, Excel and HTML) Various pre-made standard report templates Additional variable selections Save Variable Lists To run a basic Demographic Report, click Reports, Select and Run Report to choose from list of standard reports.

11 Give the report a title and select the desired output for the report i.e. PDF, Excel, Html or Word format. You may also append additional data variables which will be discussed further below. The default is None. You may also append variables from a Saved Variable List or Current Selection which appends variables that are currently selected in the Select Variables menu option. Select your report from the dropdown list of reports and click on the Run button at the top of the report window and wait for processing. Please note that only one report can be selected at a time. Comparison Reports: Reports with Comparison in the name put all displayed trade areas on one report Summary Reports: Reports with Summary in the name create a separate report for each trade area displayed on the map. If you have 1, 3 and 5 mile trade area along with a polygon on the map, it will produce 4 reports. Other Reports: Reports include ranking reports and other reports not classified as either summary or comparison. Once the report has processed successfully, the following window will appear:

12 Click Download to open your report in the specified format. The report will also be saved for future viewing in the My Work > Reports:Download or My Work > Reports:Manage section or Reports>My Reports: Download or Reports>My Reports: Manage. To select variables to append to a report or save as a Variable List, click Reports, Select Variables to choose from list of licensed variables. Simply, open the variable nodes and select your desired variables.

13 Once selected, you can give the variable list a name and save it for later use. Name the list and click save. This is optional. You can also just click the Add button to add this selection to a report. Once Add is selected, the window will close and automatically open the Select and Run Report window. Current Selection will be pre-selected and ready for you to choose a report to append the variables. To append a Saved Variable List to a Standard or Custom Report, click Reports, My Custom Variable List to choose from a list you have previously created.

14 In this window, select one or multiple lists to append and click the Add button. Once Add is selected, the window will close and automatically open the Select and Run Report window. Saved Variable List will be pre-selected and ready for you to choose a report to append the variables.

15 MapInSite Online Tool Overview Mapping Tools are kept in the main toolbar. Select: Allows the user to select objects on the map. Holding the CTRL key allows for selecting more than one object at a time. Clear Selection: Use this to delete objects from the map, first choose the Clear Selection tool, and then click on the object to delete. Refresh Map: This tool refreshes the map to the users default settings. Trade Areas will not be deleted. Object Info: Click on an object on the map to display information. Create Point: Allows the user to create custom points on the map select Create Point and then click on the map. Clear Points: Deletes all points from the map. Clear All: Deletes all objects from the map. Export Map To export a map as a PDF, JPG etc, go to Export Map, Save Map. Here you enter a Title for you map and a File Name that is used internally for MapInSite to identify your map. Then choose the format of the output from PDF, Excel, Word, PNG, TIFF, EMF or JPG. Next, you can choose to either include satellite imagery in the background. The Labels option will add your currently displayed labels to the map.

16 Then, choose the type of map you wish to produce. A Trade Area map does not include a legend whereas a Thematic Map will include the legend as well as the variable name that is being thematically mapped. Please note, images files take some time to process. Please be patient while the system produces your file.

17 My Data This function allows the user to import their own point files and Trade Areas in either MIF or CSV formats. MIF files are MapInfo files that can either be points or polygons. CSV files are point files only and must contain a latitude/longitude (X,Y) field. A sample of a compatible CSV file is below: To upload a file, click the Browse button to select your file. Once selected, click Upload. A message will then appear after a screen refresh to give details on the file that was uploaded. To view your file on the map, click Display. If a CSV file was selected, a Preview and Display window will open.

18 My Work My Work>Analytic Gallery This is a quick link for those who license Alteryx Analytics Gallery Apps. My Work>Variable Lists This is an alternate location to access My Custom Variable Lists. My Work>Reports:Download This function lists all of the reports that the user has created. Here, the user has the option to Download any report. A Report Name, MapInSite generated File Name and the Date the report was created is displayed. This option can also be accessed under Reports.

19 My Work>Reports:Manage This function lists all of the reports that the user has created. Here, the user has the option to Delete any report. This option can also be accessed under Reports. My Work>Geographies This function lists all of the trade areas that the user has created. Here, the user has the option to Remove any geographies. The Geography name and the Data Created is displayed. The user can also choose whether or not to display this geography on the map. To do this, either select or de-select the geography to the right of the screen. Click the blue play button to refresh the map. This option can also be accesses under Trade Areas. Subscriptions>User Profile This window displays your user information. Here, you can change your password and/or update your corporate information. Subscriptions>Subscription Payment
