1 LIS 467 Web Development & Information Architecture Assignment 1: Project Plan & Needs Assessment 1. Team Name : 2. Team Members and Roles: a. Dena Caron, dena.caron@simmons.edu - setting up and sharing a Pinterest Board to use as a Mood Board, information architecture, assisting with wire frame, introducing the team to Glogster as a possible tool to utilize for the wire frame, creating a Google Survey to assist with Usability Testing Plan b. James Lucey, james.lucey@simmons.edu - Creating a list of reference websites, help gather content for site and creating an information architecture for the site. c. Garrett Locke, garrett.locke@simmons.edu - organize task timeline and Gantt chart, generate metadata tags, help to organize and design wireframe d. Vanessa Radelmiller-Feigel, vanessa.radelmiller@simmons.edu - Client Liaison (interviewing the clients and communicating what they want to the team, writing the site description, brainstorming and designing use-case scenarios) e. Reasons for These Roles : This team meshed well from the start, and each person was more than willing to utilize their skills to help with tasks that they felt comfortable taking on. In areas where we have little to no experience (yet), team members brainstormed to come up with tasks that best fit their individual areas of interest and backgrounds. Garrett, James, Dena and Vanessa have taken LIS 415. Garrett and Dena have also taken an SLTP tech class; James and Vanessa have taken LIS 488, and James also took a Python class in high school, and Dena and Vanessa took Python last semester (through Simmons). Garrett offered to use his experience with these classes to take on the Metadata tags/search terms tasks, while Dena offered to introduce Glogster to the group to help Garrett with the Wireframe. James will use his experience to research Reference Websites and work with Dena on Information Architecture. Dena will also create a Pinterest board for the group to use as a Mood Board and a Google Survey that will be used for Usability Testing. Vanessa will play perhaps the most essential role in the group as she works for and with the client (The Market Shops at So Stinkin Cute), thus Vanessa will be the Client Liason. Vanessa will also take charge of the Site Description, User-Case Scenarios, and posting the project to the web. The entire team will work together on different aspects of the Usability Testing Plan, and each member

2 will be responsible for uploading the pdf version of this assignment (Assignment 1) to his or her webspace and linking to it from his/her personal webpage for the class. 3. Skills: Vanessa Skills: HTML/CSS, Python (never used it in a web context before though), image editing Dena Skills: Python (also never used in a web context before), some HTML experience, Weebly and other pre-built websites, Google Surveys, Glogster, Pinterest, Python Garrett Skills: work experience with reference and searching; catalog design project experience; Dublin Core; online tools such as Weebly, Spiderscribe, Screencast; some

4 HTML experience, but need to read and practice more; marketing library displays and materials through social media Jim Skills: some experience with CSS, PHP, HTML, not fluent in any. Have used image editing, data entry, and video editing software. Have use many blogs and websites which allow for customization. Skills Needed: Creating and managing web forms for functions like booking an event, signing up for a mailing list to receive information on events, promotions, sales, etc. 5. Site Chosen - reasons for choice, and if you ll get in touch We decided to make a website for the Market Shops at So Stinkin Cute, a vendor mall and art studio in Niceville, FL. A member of our group, Vanessa, works there as a vendor and assistant in the studio and shop. While the client is a small business instead of an LIS institution, many of the necessities of design (facilitating user actions, organizing information logically and making it easy to find) remain the same. 6. Audience/Stakeholders The site would interact with potential customers, namely local residents of the Fort Walton Beach-Niceville-Destin area. Many of the products and services provided are geared toward women and children, although the website would have to speak toward the general public as well. Subsets of audiences could include: parents of young children, school groups, women s groups, religious groups, grandparents, teachers, middle-aged women, military families, tourists, out-of-town friends and family members of local residents. 7. Plan to Gather Requirements a. Vanessa will be the liaison given her association with the client. She will use the template provided in the Weekly Notes for LIS-467 document to guide the interview with the client. b. Refer to Gantt chart for the timeline of tasks and primary team members assigned to each. Team members will compile notes on each task in a shared Google document. 8. Mission/Purpose The Market Shops at So Stinkin Cute is a vendor mall and art studio bringing fun, whimsy and love of creativity to the Emerald Coast. So Stinkin Cute provides local artists space to sell their work and offers a relaxed and laid-back atmosphere for painting parties for all ages, both children and adults. 9. Typical Users Behavior and a Sample Persona: A normal end-user of a site for the Market Shops at So Stinkin Cute ( SSC for short) would typically be a parent, most likely a mother, with school-aged children between the ages of

5 5-12. This user might have heard of SSC s services from a friend with young children or through the parents of one of her child s classmates. She would probably be looking for information on pricing for children s birthday parties, how to book one, and what other services and activities SSC provides for children. She might also be interested in some of the items for sale in the market shops from local artists. Client Interview: 1 Visitor Interaction: what will visitors be able to do on this website? List all the activities they will complete while visiting. 2 Editing, Updates and Administration: how will the website be updated? Define the process for adding new content and making editorial changes. 3 Sitemap and Navigation: what is the structure of the website? List the sections and content categories of the website. 4 Content Management: how will content be managed on a day-to-day basis? Is there a need for a Web Content Management System? 5 Tracking: what are the reporting needs of the website? Define a list of Key Performance Indicators that stakeholders and other interested people need. 6 Search Engine Optimization: how will the website be 'promoted' in organic search results? List the items and activities to enable this, such as, a unique title and description tag on every page. 7 Editor Interface: how will editors update website content? Define the editor environment and everything required to allow editors to do their job. 8 Accessibility: how will people with special needs use the website? List the requirements to allow access by screen-readers & 9 Styling and Design: what is the look, feel and brand of the website? Identify the broad styling and design considerations. 10 Security: what will be in place to make sure the website is secure and safe for visitors to use? List all security considerations. 11 Hosting: how will the website be hosted? Identify the type of hosting (cloud or physical servers) and the site (own hosting or third-party). 12 Maintenance and Support: what are the requirements for supporting the website? Define the time periods and level of support needed, including disaster recovery and service continuity. 13 Other Requirements: list anything not covered in other sections of the document. 14 Exclusions: anything that will not be delivered as part of this project. 15 Considerations: list anything that needs accounting for as part of this work and any constraints that may exist. 16 Assumptions: list any assumptions made about the proposed website.
