3 1 BIM RAWLPLUG IS AN ONLINE APPLICATION which contains a complete portfolio of models and technical drawings of Rawlplug s fixings ready to be automatically applied in the BIM environment, regardless of which design software one has chosen to use. 2 3 BIM RAWLPLUG IS A TOOL designed and developed for all professionals involved in architectural, structural and construction design, making their work easier, faster and primarily more efficient, enabling them to make informed decisions based on professional, integrated and highly specialised technical data. THE DATA CONTAINED IN BIM RAWLPLUG MAY BE USED IN TWO WAYS: 1. by means of an online product library, if one uses different BIM/CAD environment software solutions 2. through integration of the BIM Rawlplug product library with that of the Autodesk Revit environment, being widely used design software of worldwide popularity. 2

5 1. Product Search This simple and intuitive search engine based on key information will allow you to search for or choose the right product, which can be done in three ways: 1. SKU Enter the SKU-index of the product you are looking for in the search field. If you have decided to use the SKU index-based search option, a prompt window will be displayed. Once you enter a correct index, the page will update and search results will appear. 2. Product category Browse through product categories in a drop-down list. If you decide to search for a product category in the dropdown list, just mark the product of your choice and the search results will be automatically displayed on the page. 4

Parameter-based filtering Use the product filtering option depending on the parameters you consider relevant: A. substrate type [Base materials], e.g. concrete, solid brick, cellular concrete B. fixing diameter [Sizes] C. coating type [Coatings] D. reference documents such as approvals and/or technical assessments [Approval types] To make use of this option, check the parameters that you consider relevant, and the search results to be automatically displayed will show the corresponding fixing sequenced according to the diameter and length of the chosen product. Moreover, there are selected parameters displayed under the search results, which you can uncheck individually by pressing the [x] symbol, or uncheck them all at the same time by pressing the [Uncheck all] button. When searching for a product, you can freely combine the product category-based search and the parameter filtering. BIM Rawlplug 5

7 2. Scope of the available information Having found a product, you are presented with a page dedicated to the product. It consists of 3 sections that are crucial for efficient and convenient use of the software: 1. PRODUCT VISUALISATION section providing access to two- and three-dimensional versions as well as all the views required for designing and presentation purposes. 2. SECTION PRESENTING the entire range of products corresponding to the given category and the chosen parameters which enables easy and quick preview of another product without having to navigate to the previous menu and filter out/search for adequate fixings. 3. INFORMATION SECTION providing data that a design or construction engineer will find most significant, starting from basic information such as the coatings used or the substrates the given product is suitable for, to product geometry description, including length, diameter or size of the installation tool, and information about strength properties. 6

Scope and form of presentation of the viewed files One of the features of BIM Rawlplug is comprehensive visualisation of the selected product depending on the needs and the potential application. The user is provided with as many as 3 forms of visualisation of the fixings one can search for and select: 1. The user can either display TWO-DIMENSIONAL (2D) technical drawings for direct application in the chosen design software or THREE-DIMENSIONAL (3D) product models for full design visualisation or to be used in marketing presentations. The chosen view may also be zoomed in. It is also important that the 2D version of the fixing view features an additional tag containing basic product information which enables its easy and quick identification. 2. Each product can be VIEWED IN 6 PROJECTIONS: isometric view as well as front, back, top, bottom and side view. Both the first and the second variant is displayed simultaneously on the screen, and thanks to the intuitive navigation mechanism, you can move items from one place to another, as needed. 9 3. Scope and form of presentation of the viewed files 3. The 360 view option enables you to display the selected product in a fully interactive mode. It will be shown as a model slowly rotating around its axis, while you can perform any of the following actions at any time: a. stop the rotating model by pressing the left mouse button at any point of the main preview area or by clicking the leftmost control menu icon b. manually rotate the model as you deem appropriate by pressing and holding the left mouse button to turn the model in the right direction c. scale up or down the model using the mouse scroll wheel or by pressing the +/- buttons in the control menu d. switch to a full-screen display mode by clicking the rightmost control menu button. a. b. c. d. Thanks to the appropriate arrangement of individual elements, the full-screen display mode enables you to make use of all the aforementioned visualisation features. To switch between individual views, use the arrows on the right and the left side of the computer screen or the corresponding arrow buttons on the keyboard. In order to exit the full screen mode, just press the top right-hand cross or the ESC button on the keyboard. 8

Downloading drawing and models If you have already chosen a specific product, you can download its models and drawings in 2D and 3D versions, with different configuration settings and in the most popular design software formats. In order to save the file of your choice on a drive, press the [select and download] button to be found in the bottom right corner of the general model and drawing view screen. You will be presented with a window containing a list of all downloadable files available for the given product. BIM Rawlplug 9

11 4. Downloading drawing and models At this stage, you can freely switch between 2D and 3D views using the corresponding checkboxes. From the list of 2D drawings, you can choose between full-colour renders, CAD views, 2D BIM drawings and CAD drawings. The available 3D models include CAD models and simplified BIM models. CAD models are three-dimensional files dedicated to the CAD environments which contain more detailed geometry. BIM models are three-dimensional files dedicated to the BIM environments which contain simplified geometry and sets of technical parameters connected with the model. Next to the list of file extensions, there are full names and types of the files available to download. They are described unambiguous manner, providing intuitive references to the views and models previously displayed. You can also choose the right file from a list of file formats, including dwg, dxf etc. The selected file can be downloaded by clicking the file icon next to its name. 10

12 4. Downloading drawing and models However, the application features further useful file download options accessed via the action bar under the list of downloadable files. A. B. C. A. You can use the [Download selected] command which allows you to download the files previously marked in checkboxes directly to you drive. Check them all at the same time by checking the [Select all] box. The files are zipped by the system to a single ZIP archive and downloaded afterwards. B. Having selected all the files of your choice, you can send them (also in the compressed ZIP archive format) to a pre-defined address (matching the one entered on registration) using the [Send selected to ] option. C. You can also use the [Add to clipboard] button, which does not automatically download the selected files, but enables you to store them temporarily so that all models, drawings and information concerning the products you have browsed and chosen can be kept at one place. They will all be downloaded once you have finished working with BIM Rawlplug, thus saving your time and accelerating the design works. BIM Rawlplug 11

13 5. Using [My clipboard] 1. [My clipboard] functions as a storage for the files you have decided to download. When browsing through and then selecting individual fixing models and drawings, you do not need to download them individually each time. Instead, use the [Add to clipboard] option in the [Select and download] tab of BIM Rawlplug. 2. This will send the files you have selected to a specific kind of clipboard from which you can download them all at once without any quantitative restrictions. You can navigate to the clipboard at any time while using the portal by clicking its icon to be found in the top right corner of the page. 3. Once you have added files to [My clipboard], a message confirming their transfer to the clipboard will be displayed on the screen. Depending on what you intend to do, you can either: press the OK button and continue browsing through and adding files, or press [Go to clipboard] to navigate directly to the clipboard. 4. Having entered the [My clipboard] view with access to full storage of the files previously selected, you can: return to the recently displayed product page by clicking [Back to content service] send all the selected files compressed to a ZIP archive to the pre-defined address using the [Send to ] option download all the files previously stored in the clipboard in a single ZIP archive by choosing the [Download all] option purge the clipboard of all the files previously stored by clicking [Delete all]. 12

Links to product pages Before the BIM Rawlplug application was deployed, its scope and presentation form had been consulted with our most trusted designers, architects and construction engineers. For that reason, we are certain that our application comprises information which potential users may find most relevant, presented in an integrated, comprehensible and practical manner. However, we are also fully aware of the fact that some other data may be needed under specific projects, and they may have not been rendered available in the portal to which users now have access. From Revit (RFA) level you can navigate to our website, rawlplug.com, to find even the most unique product data which you may find useful in everyday work. Just use the [Product details on RAWLPLUG] option. BIM Rawlplug 13

15 7. Links to approvals Each Rawlplug product features an approval and/or technical assessment* being documents which confirm all its parameters and properties. Depending on the product type, it may either be a European Technical Assessment and/or Approval (ETA) or a domestic one (TA). Approvals for the products viewed and selected in the application are also available in BIM Rawlplug. To access them, just press the [Approval] button in the bottom left corner of the product models and drawings screen. * In special cases, when the BIM Rawlplug application starts, approvals for individual products may be unavailable. This means that we are in the process of acquiring them and they will soon become available on the portal. We kindly request your understanding and patience. 14

16 8. Links to Technical Library BIM Rawlplug enables you to access the current product approval, being a document which confirms all its parameters and properties. However, most products are also linked with additional documents, such as fire resistance or seismic certificates etc. These are available from a special Technical Library a separate tool embedded in the BIM Rawlplug environment. Just click the [Technical Library] option to be found next to views of individual products. You will be automatically taken to the technical Library available on rawlplug.com: to register and subscribe, if you are about to use the tool for the first time to log on using your personal data, if you have already used the Technical Library. 17 9. Using technical data The BIM Rawlplug application is a unique tool which stands out among competitive solutions available in the market. It is so for several reasons, one of which is the fact that, in our application, every product is provided with a range of useful information of marketing and technical nature, but primarily also transparent, user-friendly and useful mechanical data. All this information is displayed in the [Product details] screen section to be found under the product view. The parameters which describe the given product are divided into groups, making it easier to find them and ensuring that the application layout is intelligible and user-friendly. Individual parameter groups may be hidden using the arrows on the right-hand side of the list. 16

18 10. Installing the Revit Plug-in The innovative Revit Plug-in integrates with the Autodesk Revit data library most popular and most preferred design software. Just download the plugin from rawlplug.com - from the bookmark: services/design-software-applications/bim-rawlplug Clicking the [Download] banner. This will enable BIM Rawlplug to become the software component, meaning that while working with the design software one can freely use the models, drawings and information rendered by BIM Rawlplug without being forced to switch between platform windows. Just click the plug-in download field to be guided through a short and uncomplicated installation process following the instructions displayed on the screen. Keep in mind that in order to successfully download the Revit Plug-in, you should have previously installed Autodesk Revit software in version 2014 or newer. BIM Rawlplug 17

Choosing a product using the Revit Plug-in Once the Revit Plug-in has been installed searching for products proceeds analogically to the corresponding actions performed in the online application. The adequate product may also be selected in three ways: 1. by means of the SKU search engine, where the user can enter a specific pre-selected index 2. by choosing an individual product from the [Categories] list 3. comprehensive data of the products being searched for are rendered available such as: the substrate type, fixing diameter, coating type, material type, but also reference documents. You have also access to basic information about searched products. In order to display them, click the [Properties] button to be found in the bottom right corner of the product presentation view. This will open a separate pop-up window containing all the required information. 18

Product presentation using the Revit Plug-in The list of product search results is identical as in the online application, but it enables you to use them directly in the design software environment. You can also choose how the results are to be displayed, depending on your routine. Choose between variants where: 1. you only see the index name, the full product name and the function buttons: [Add] enabling you to implement the product in the design and [Properties] which, when clicked, displays detailed information about the product 2. you are presented with a detailed list, a product miniature on the left-hand side as well as the index name, the full product name and types of substrates on which the chosen product can be used on the right-hand side; the [Add] and [Properties] buttons are also available 3. you can see an augmented isometric product miniature along with the index name, the full product name and obviously also the [Add] and [Properties] buttons. Implementing a file in a design using the Revit Plug-in It is very easy to implement the selected file in a design just click the [Add] button displayed in the list of search results next to the chosen product item and that is all. Consequently, the Revit Plug-in view will be minimised, and a product model that you only need to place at the right location in the design will appear next to the cursor. 20

22 14. Features available after product implementation in a design Once you have successfully implemented a product in your design, you can quickly verify different parameters describing its strength, mechanical and geometric properties as well as other information, and you can do it directly from the Autodesk Revit environment level. Just left-click the outline of the chosen fixing. Having done that, you will see a window displayed on the left-hand side of the screen with the most important information grouped under transparent categories, making it easier to find the parameter you are looking for. There is more to that, since from the same level you can also navigate to the chosen product s page at rawlplug.com or open an associated document, such as an approval and/or a technical assessment. To do that, left-click the right edge of the value displayed next to [Approval] or click [Get more details]. BIM Rawlplug 21

Downloading an approval using the Revit Plug-in BIM Rawlplug s Revit Plug-in will allow the use to download up-to-date approvals for individual products without being forced to look for them in the online application. This can be done using the [Approval] button to be found in the [Properties] window. Click the button to display a new browser window containing the approval. 22
