2 1. How to enter the Backend of TYPO3 backend view the frontend 2. General information about TYPO3 You find an online-manual in the backend of TYPO3 which explains the key-features The system is set up out of three columns: Left column: Tools Middle Column: Shows the page tree Right Column: the editing area Icons are clickable leave your mouse over an icon to view a description Frontend vs. Backend 3. Dont s There are a few things you should keep in mind when working with TYPO3: Dont t copy text out of word Please don t copy text directly from MS Word and paste it immediately into TYPO3. Better go via a normal text editor (like Win Pad or similar) which you find on every computer. This makes sure that you don t copy unwanted invisible text-formatting in TYPO3, which normally is really hard to get rid of again. Naming of documents and images If you upload images or documents to the system please don t use special characters in the file name. Very important: No blanks or dots in document names. You may only use underscore _ or hyphen - ) page 2

Training Examples for Course Administrators Editing an existing course 1 Choose Page view in the left column 2 Choose the Course page, which you want to edit (Click on the course titel or on the icon) 3 Choose edit page header to edit the title of the course 4 Choose the content-element below to edit normal text page 3
4 Create a new Course 1 Copy the page Course Prototype and paste it into the page tree 2 Edit page header: Type into page title the new coursename. This name will apperar in the navigation. Next unhide the page 3 Edit the course title and enter the course description page 4
5 Create logins for the new course 1 Switch to List-view (in the left column) 2 Choose global user storage in the middle column 3 First we need to create a new Web site user group: Copy an existing one and change the group title 4 Next we need the users (teacher and participants) for the new course. Create a new one (with the new icon) and enter the new Username/Password and select the group(s) in which the user should be a member of. participants are only member of the group you created before. teachers have to be member of the new group and also of the group _ecampus_teacher (because they also need the editing functions in the frontend) page 5
6 Set the page access of the new course 1 To limit the visibility of a page to an individual user group you have to choose the right group in the page access option. Editing for Teachers: in the frontend 1 Teachers only have to login to the ecampus area, directly on the website ecampus.jvi.org. Here they can easily edit, add or delete text in the course area. They also can upload files for participants. page 6

Training examples for editors Create a new page with images and links 1 Create a new page (click on the icon) 2 Edit page header and select the type of page (one or two columns) 3 Enter a content element (Text element, Text with image) 4 Upload an image 5 Set a link How to delete an inappropriate forum entry 1 Go to List view 2 Choose the page message board from the alumni section 3 Scroll down to the search field 4 Enter a line of text of the forum entry you want to delete in the search field 5 Click the search button 6 Check in the search results if the entry is the one you re looking for (click the pencil icon to read the whole record) 7 Delete the entry (trashbin icon) page 7
