3 Overview and Types of Crash Included The FIRES Public Portal has been designed and implemented to provide aggregate crash data statistics as they are reported into the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles central repository. This utility gives the ability for any entity and/or persons to obtain and review dynamic crash reporting in real time. It is imperative that each user understands that crash reports are continually being submitted to the database from which results may be calculated from the public portal. Therefore, the results may change depending on when and what search criteria is used. Types of Crashes Included The FIRES Public Portal provides only reported crashes that have been outlined in Florida State Statute (1)(a) which is defined as the following. FS (1)(a) Motor vehicle crashes resulting in death or personal injury, or Motor vehicle crashes in which one or more of the following conditions occur: - Leaving the scene involving damage to an attended vehicle or property (Section (1), F.S.) - Driving while under the influence of alcoholic beverages, chemical substances; or controlled substances; or with an unlawful blood alcohol level (Section , F.S.) - Rendered a vehicle inoperable to a degree that required a wrecker to remove it from the scene of the crash (Effective 1/1/2013) - Involved a commercial motor vehicle (Effective 1/1/2013) For more information, please contact the FIRES help desk at fires@appriss.com. 3

4 Quick Statistics Quick Statistics allows a user to review crash reporting at its highest levels. Selections can be made from statewide, county, and/or reporting law enforcement agency from the perspective of a single year. Once a selection is made, a crash summary will appear with a graph. Select the Quick Statistics tab below Public 4

5 Quick Statistics (Continued) Choose a specific year Choose either Statewide, Agency, or County o Crash Summary will produce results from user selection. Additional charts can be selected from the Select Chart dropdown box: o Reports by Month, Reports by Type, Age of Driver, Day of Week, Time of Day, Weather Conditions, Road Surface Conditions, and Light Condition. 5

6 Advanced Search Advanced Search allows users to build ad hoc queries from a list of certain reported crash fields. This list includes, but is not limited to Manner of Collision, Work Zone Related, Fatalities, Injuries, and others. 6

7 Advanced Search (Inserting Criteria) -A search can be completed by inserting a specific set of crash criteria from the index drop down box. First select a date range or specific date from the Date Of Crash index box. Add your search parameters by clicking Insert Criteria once the data range is enetered into Search Value. Once inserted, the criteria will show under the word Criteria. Then add additional index criteria. Once all index criteria is entered, click Search to complete search. Once search is complete, a summary will be shown below. Please note: Click Show All to expand index criteria options. 7

8 Advanced Search (Summary) -Once a search is complete, a summary will be shown, similar to the below image. A user can print the summary by clicking the printer logo in the top right hand corner of the summary. The user will also have the option to View Results, Export Results, Show Map, or Select a Chart from the data set received. See below for more information on these options. 8

9 Advanced Search (View Results) -Once a search is completed, the user will have the ability to View Results which will allow the user to see a list of each crash with some additional information. Click View Results to receive a list. -If a crash was reported with a geolocation, a small globe will appear on the far left of each line. Click the globe and the crash location will be pinpointed on a map. 9

10 Advanced Search (Export Results) -Once a search is complete, a user can also Export Results which will export the crash results to a spreadsheet. 10

11 Advanced Search (Show Map) -Once a search is complete, a user can also select Show Map which will place the crash results set into a spreadsheet. Please note: If a geocode was not assigned to the crash report, the crash will NOT show on map. Quick Tips: Click each pin point for crash information. Zoom in and out by clicking the + or - bar on the left. Choose between Map or Satallite view on the top right. 11
