1 BTA3O Summative Assignment The Kellogg s Cereal Case You have recently been hired by Kellogg s and must design an entire marketing campaign around a new cereal. You were hired on a referral from a friend because of your computer expertise and ability to produce high quality work on tight deadlines. Complete each task below using the appropriate software application. Be sure to initial all of your work so you get credit for completing it. Task 1: Desktop Publishing - Cereal Box Cover Your first job requires you to help Kellogg s create an innovative cereal box cover for one of their new cereals which is suppose to hit store shelves just in time to kick off the summer season. Kellogg s has not yet decided on a name for this new cereal, but wants it to be creative and attract children and teenagers to eat it. Your job is to create a new name for this cereal and an innovative cereal box cover using desktop publishing software. You must include the following: Graphics - Shapes Text Boxes Graphics, Pictures and/or Watermarks that are appropriate for your product. Utilize entire 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. Be creative! Recommended software: MS Word. When completed, print one copy to hand in when you have completed the entire assignment. Be sure your initials are on your work to get credit for the job. Create a folder on your Microsoft OneDrive called Final Project. In that folder create a folder called Task1". Save all files related to this task in the Task1" folder. You will be sharing the Final Project folder at the end of this project.

Ensure that the X axis represents Months, and the Y axis represents the Sales figures. Part C: Kellogg s CEO Jim Jenness will only keep the cereals on the market that have average monthly sales greater than $100,000. Using a template, create a memo to Mr. Jenness which recommends which (if any) cereal should be eliminated from the Kellogg s line in order to make room for your new cereal. Include charts and graphs that support your recommendation. Recommended Software: MS Excel. Print the spreadsheet twice - once with the values and once with the formulas. Print a copy of the graph. Print a copy of the memo. All printouts will be handed in at the end of the project. Be sure your initials are on your work to get credit for the job. In your Final Project folder create a folder called Task2". Save all files related to this task in the Task2" folder. You will be sharing the Final Project folder at the end of this project.
3 Task 3: Webpage Search and Database - Competition Comparison Part A: Search the internet for manufacturers of cereal in North America. Based on your research create a database with the following fields: Cereal Brand Name Company Name (may be different then Cereal Brand Name) Company CEO (Chief Executive Officer) URL of Company Webpage Company Head Office Location 2012 Sales for the Company Top Cereal Products NOTE: Some cereal brands to include are Post, General Mills, Quaker, Presidents Choice (Loblaws), Be sure to include at least 6 brands in your database (including Kelloggs) Part B: Create the following reports using software of your choice: a) Print a copy of one record in form view (show your data entry form) b) List all Cereal Brand Names in a report sorted by brand name. Display Cereal Brand name, Company Name, and Top Cereal Products c) List all Companies that had sales of greater than $10 Billion. Display Cereal Brand name, Company Name, and 2012 Sales d) List all Companies sorted by Head Office Location. Display Company Name, Head Office Location and URL. Recommended Software: MS Access. Print all reports to hand in at the end of this project. Be sure your initials are on your work to get credit for the job. In your Final Project folder create a folder called Task3". Save all files related to this task in the Task3" folder. You will be sharing the Final Project folder at the end of this project.
4 Task 4 HTML - Webpage Creation You have decided that to enhance your cereal s chances at success, you will create a webpage that will help support the launch of your new cereal. Your sole purpose of the webpage is to get the name of your cereal out to the public so it should be eye-catching. Use web page creation software and HTML to create a simple information only website that publicizes your cereal. The website and related files (images etc) should be saved in its own subfolder (named Task4) and should have at least the following information: An opening page that names your cereal and has a continue button for more information. This page should be called index.html A second page that gives details about the product and a link to Kelloggs website for further information Multiple colours and graphics to make the page fun and interesting Any other information you would like to include Recommended Software: Adobe Dreamweaver or Google Sites. Print a copy of all pages of your website from Chrome. In your Final Project folder create a folder called Task4". Save all files related to this task in the Task4" folder. You will be sharing the Final Project folder at the end of this project.
5 Task 5 Presentation to the Board The final step of your project is to prepare a visual presentation (must use Powerpoint) to pitch your cereal to the Board of Directors at Kellogg s. You must highlight every aspect of the project thus far, and try to convince them that your cereal is a great addition to the other cereals they already produce. Keep in mind the following criteria when designing your slideshow and following the presentation rules discussed earlier in the term when designing your slideshow: You must have at least 6 slides. Slides should include integrated items from MS Excel, Access and other programs The colours must be consistent. You must include a background, at least 2 appropriate graphics, and transitions between all slides. Recommended Software: MS Powerpoint. Print a copy of all pages of your presentation (4 slides per page). Be sure your initials are on your work to get credit for the job. In your Final Project folder create a folder called Task5". Save all files related to this task in the Task5" folder. You will be sharing the Final Project folder at the end of this project. Task 6: Wrapping it up 1. Share your Final Project folder with your teacher. 2. Create a title page for your work and print all pages as outlined. Put all pages in the correct order and number the pages (as they were completed for this assignment) 3. Staple them in the top right hand corner and hand in.
