2 Launcher The CCH Launcher The CCH Launcher simplifies the infobase selection process. In addition, it provides an opportunity to enter a client reference. 4 CCH Launcher tracks the start and elapsed time of a research session. Pause or reset the elapsed time by clicking the buttons provided. Click this link to launch the Welcome screen for CCH Online, our internet research program. Step : Select the infobases you wish to open by clicking the box beside the title of the infobase. Step : Use these buttons in order to access other CCH products. Step : If you wish, enter a client reference. Step 4: Click Launch to open the selected infobases.
3 Table of Contents Drilling through the Table of Contents Step : Click the + sign next to any title to expand its subtopics. Step : Step : Continue to expand the topics until you find the document you are searching for. To view the desired document, simply double click its title. indicates that a topic is not fully expanded. indicates that the topic is fully exanded. Conducting a Search Step : To open the query window click the Advanced Query button on the toolbar. Step : In the Query For box, enter the key terms you would like to search for. Step : Click either the Apply to All or OK button to execute a search. Note: The search method shown here is a simple method for locating information. For more effective search results, use the Boolean method outlined within this card. Select this option to search only those areas selected in the Table of Contents. Searches for the query term(s) in all infobases that are currently open. Conducts search within the active infobase.
4 Searching Conducting a Boolean Search Step : Identify the key terms. Step : Consider alternates for selected terms and use Boolean Expanders to help generate alternates. Step : Use Boolean Connectors to create the desired relationship between terms.
5 Query Templates CCH provides Query Templates with most products. These templates help refine searches to specific areas of the products. Most products have at least one template and some have multiple templates. A complete list of available templates is displayed under the Search menu. To quickly access the first template of each infobase, click the Query Template button. Here are the query templates available in the Dominion Tax Cases infobase. Special Icons The Note Up Arrow will do a Citation search through the Court s reasons for judgment of all cases in the infobase you are in. It will not search the CCH digests. The Scales of Justice indicates that there has been a subsequent decision by a higher court. Double-click this icon to go to those decisions. Clicking this icon displays the Footnotes in a separate pop-up window. This icon displays the corresponding page number in the printed version. The case comment icon represents a link to commentary on the case. Double-click this icon to view these comments.
6 Using the Go to Feature The Go to feature can be used to quickly access information within CCH infobases. Please refer to the chart below for details. Step : Step : Step : Click the Go To icon. 7 Toolbar Summary Open Opens a new infobase. Print Displays the print dialogue. Synchronize Contents Brings the table of contents into sync. with the current document. Go Back Returns to the previous document in the history list (the document you were last viewing before following a link). Go Forward Goes forward to the next document in the history list (active only after you have used the Go Back button to view a previous document). Go To Jumps to a specific location in the infobase. Show History View your document trail. Query Template Call up the first customized Query Template in the list which appears under the Search menu. Advanced Query Accesses the advanced query search form. Previous Hit Go to the previous hit in your search results. Next Hit Go to the next hit in your search results. Clear Query Clears the current query. Query tool Allows you to perform a new search. It also allows you to view a list of the already performed searches. Browse Displays the table of contents, reference and document panes in one view. Document Displays only the reference and the documents pane. Contents Displays only the table of contents pane. Double-clicking a heading will open the infobase to the corresponding section in the Document tab. Hitlist Displays the current query results. Double-clicking any of the results will open the corresponding section in the Document tab.
8 Printing Printing in Folio 4.7 Step : Step : Step : Click the Print icon. Select one of the 5 printing options, see below for details. (Note: Some options may be disabled). Click the OK button to begin printing. Print Options All Prints everything that is currently available for viewing. Use this option with caution because the default view of the program includes every record in the infobase. Records Enter the record number at the start of the area to be printed in the From field and the record number at the end of the print job in the To field. Selection After highlighting an area of text within a document, click this option to print the highlighted area. (Only available when an area has been highlighted.) Tagged Records Select this option to print all of the records that have been tagged within the document. (Only enabled when records have been tagged.) Section A window outlining the table of contents is provided with this option allowing users to select which documents they wish to print. Click the + sign to expand the topics and then put check marks next to the topics to select them for printing.
