1 Starter Worksheet Reference Guide January 27, 2016 About Starter Worksheet Starter Search enhances productivity by allowing customers to find, view, and print images from Fidelity National Title Group s (FNTG) starter repository. Over 83 million commitments, lenders and owners policies, and preliminary reports are available for searching across the United States. You can search the repository using a variety of attributes that include addresses, legal descriptions, insured and buyer names, as well as order, policy, and loan numbers; and optionally export the starter data along with Cook, IL, full tax data, if applicable. The Starter Search Quick Reference Guide highlights how to: Create Orders and Run Starter Searches View and Interpret Results Manage Orders and Searches Please review the Online Help and the video tutorial for additional information. Creating Orders and Running Starter Searches 1. Click Starter from the menu bar to display the Starter Search page. 2. Type an order number into Order No. with your search to store it for future retrieval. Your order will be added to Recent Activity (RA). Searches run without an 2 order number cannot be retrieved using Find Order once they no 6 longer display in RA because RA drops the oldest searches and orders from view as new ones are added. 3. Select a state and county from their respective lists. 7 1

2 4. To further limit your results, type a city name in City. Additionally, you can initiate city searches using a wildcard or by selecting Full Text, as described in Select Document Category, Document Type, Starter Source, and Match Search Options to further limit results. Use: Document Type to display Owner, Lender, and/or Other. Document Category to display Policy, Preliminary Reports, and/or Commitments. Starter Source to view starter results from Property Insight and/or Backtrack. Match to search by Full Text or Exact Match. 5. Wildcard Details and Match Details below. 6. Select All Counties to search all of the counties within the chosen state. If not selected, your search adheres to your county setting. Note that you can set All Counties to display selected by default in Preferences. 7. Type Property, Legal, or Document attributes to perform a search. Additionally: You can include multiple attributes to search simultaneously, but only those results that match all of the criteria typed return. Special characters and leading zeros are removed during search processing. Some fields cannot be searched individually and require an additional search attribute, such as: A Street Number, Address Unit Number, Street Pre-Direction, Street Post-Direction, Street Type, or Zip without a Street Name. Acreage To without Acreage From. 8. Any Property, Legal, or Document attribute name that has an asterisk can be searched as a wildcard. See Select Document Category, Document Type, Starter Source, and Match Search Options to further limit results. Use: Document Type to display Owner, Lender, and/or Other. Document Category to display Policy, Preliminary Reports, and/or Commitments. Starter Source to view starter results from Property Insight and/or Backtrack. Match to search by Full Text or Exact Match. Wildcard Details below. 9. Select Document Category, Document Type, Starter Source, and Match Search Options to further limit results. Use: Document Type to display Owner, Lender, and/or Other. Document Category to display Policy, Preliminary Reports, and/or Commitments. Starter Source to view starter results from Property Insight and/or Backtrack. Match to search by Full Text or Exact Match. Wildcard Details Wildcard searches may be initiated using an asterisk (*) or percent (%) for Property ID Number, Order Number, and Policy Number fields with the following combinations: * , returns anything ending in C13099*, returns anything starting with C13099 C130*99, returns anything starting with C130 and ending with 99 *130990*, returns anything containing *130*990*, returns anything containing 130 and 990 2

3 Furthermore: Wildcards are supported for City, Street Name, and Property ID# attributes, all attributes except Acreage From and To in the Legal section, and all attributes except Loan # in the Document section. When using wildcards, a minimum of three consecutive characters (not including asterisk) are required for all search attributes in the Document section. A maximum of 1,000 records will return sorted by the effective date, newest to oldest. Match Details Two options are available: Full Text finds all instances of the text or number typed without considering the order of words or numbers. This feature applies to the following fields (if a wildcard is not used): City, Street Name, Map Book, Map Page, Tract Number, Block/Bldg, Lot/Unit, Subdivision/Condominium Name, Section, Township, Range, Insured Name, and Buyer Name. Exact Match finds exactly what is typed into the field, and applies to the above mentioned fields. Viewing and Interpreting Results Interpreting Results 1. Search Parameters displays the search attributes used in the currently viewed results. Click Modify Search Parameters to redisplay the Starter Search page with the attributes typed to re-run your search. 2. Recent Activity lists the most recent orders and non-order searches. In RA: Click an order number to display the Order Home Page and add a new Starter Search. Right-click an order number to print, , and save searches and images, or to add additional searches. Click to clear orders and non-order searches, or re-load them. 3. Use the checkbox and click Retrieve Images to retrieve the starter image, or click to both retrieve and print. Optionally quick-view the image by clicking Owner, Lender, or Other in the Type column. 4. Click to expand the record and display additional Property, Document, Title Officer, and Escrow Officer Information (if available). 3

4 5. Click View Vesting, Legal, or Exceptions to display a pop-up window that contains complete information associated with the starter record (if available). This tool allows you to quickly copy and paste the electronic text. 6. Click Worksheet to view and edit the TitlePoint Historical Starter Exception Worksheet. From this worksheet, you can view general information about the prior order and select to include the Vesting, Legal, and Schedules A and B content applicable to the current transaction in your export. 7. Optionally import full tax search exceptions from Cook, 6 IL, into the Worksheet, if included in your order and released. If you do not have a relevant Starter Search result from which to import full taxes, click Options at the top of Starter Search results and select Import Completed Full Taxes to create an empty Starter Search Worksheet. 8. Save or export the Starter Exception Worksheet. Note that access to the Worksheet depends on permissions, and might not be enabled for every account. Additional Features 8 Additional functionality is available within Starter Search results. Click: 1. Column headers to sort search results. Click the header twice to reverse the sort. The default sort order is based on the effective dates from newest to oldest. 2. Show Filter at the top of the Starter Search results page to filter the search results. Type a Date, Property ID#, Address, or Map Ref, and click Apply Filter to limit the search results. Click Cancel Filter to begin another filter. 3. Show All to display all of the results on a single page. Click Show Paging to return to the paging view. 4. Show Paging to group results into pages. By default, the page threshold is 50 records per page; however, you can change this value in Preferences. 5. Condensed or Expanded to view search results in a condensed or expanded mode. 7 4

5 Viewing and Annotating Starter Images iview is a feature rich application used to view, manipulate, and print starter images. In iview, you can: Print, , and export (save) selected images or a complete order from the File menu. Annotate images by adding shapes, stamps, highlights, and text from the toolbar. Convert image portions into text using Optical Character Recognition (OCR). Include/Exclude specific pages or an entire image. Compare two pages side-by-side, which is typically used to compare signatures. Rotate and zoom in or out of images. As an alternate to installing iview, you can use Web Viewer, a leaner and faster image viewer. Use Web Viewer to save images, employ simple annotations, and zoom in and out of images. To view images in Web Viewer or iview by default, select the Web Viewer or iview option in General Preferences, as described in Preferences below. 5

6 Managing Orders and Searches Manage your orders and searches using the Order Home Page (OHP), search for them using Find Orders, or adjust how you work using Preferences. Order Home Page Click on an order number in Recent Activity to display the OHP. Use the OHP to: Add additional searches to an existing order. Delete searches and images. or Save starter search results Print results and images or the Order Summary Report (which is a summary of your order contents). In TP only, also use the OHP to merge search results. Finding Orders Click Orders from the menu bar and choose Find to search for previously created orders by order number. An asterisk (*) can be used on the Orders field as a begins with wildcard. Preferences Click Tools from the menu bar and select Preferences in TitlePoint (or Edit Preferences in TitlePoint Xpress) to modify your default preferences. In Preferences, you can choose a default company, department, title officer, state, and county. Additional user preferences are also available. For example, in: General, set the default image viewer for how you want to view images from Search Results, the Order Home Page, and Recent Activity. Searches, set the Paging Threshold to define how many records to group on each search results page. 6
