5 Update the Conductor Software The purpose of this instruction is to describe how to update software on a Viper controller using a CF Disk flash card containing conductor software. There are three procedures listed. One of the first two procedures will apply to most updates and is the recommended procedure. The first is for updating from a new CF card, the second is for updating from a downloaded update. The last procedure is for sites with older software versions where the first and second procedures could not be used. The general procedures (first and second) require basic computer skills: 1. How to copy/paste/delete files using a Windows computer. The advanced procedure requires good computer skills. This refers to the knowledge of the following: 1. How to copy/paste/delete files using a Windows computer. 2. Use of Telnet command 3. Use of FTP command Note: Please read this notice carefully as it has changed since previous releases. Whether or not the present (old) version of software requires a permanent CF disk to stay with the Viper, the upgrade will require the exact CF disk used to perform the update to stay with/in this Viper. Do not remove it after the upgrade. Do not reinstall an old CF disk in the Viper after it has been upgraded. The procedures detailed below will guide you through transferring the machine s existing configuration into the updated CF disk. This procedure is to be used for upgrading the following software versions: Software image CF Disk with software pre-loaded G5: and up M5: and up Tandem: All Laserwash 360: All ! CAUTION! See specific product bulletin for special details such as new parameters, resetting registry or additional required steps.! CAUTION! Specific machine familiarity is required. 6 Compact Flash Disk for all LaserWash 360, Tandem, G5 or M5 Software A Compact Flash disk (from list below) is required. See software section of PDQ web site for most current listing of CF disks. It is extremely important to use the listed PDQ approved CF disks. The use of other CF disks may lead to improper software loading and/or software corruption. 7 Upgrade Pre-checks 1. Read product bulletin for new software and for all software versions that upgrade will go through.! CAUTION! See specific product bulletin for special details such as new parameters, resetting registry or additional required steps. 2. Check for special circumstances when upgrading through the below software versions. G5: None M5: Software Version M5PB-048 Tandem: Software Version TAPB-006 Software Version TAPB-014 Software Version TAPB-022 Software Version TAPB-026 Software Version TAPB-027 LaserWash 360: Software Version LWPB-011 Software Version LWPB-012 Software Version LWPB-023 Software Version LWPB-030 Software Version LWPB Place the wash into maintenance mode (see the owner/operator manual for wash details). G5: Turn the key-switch to maintenance. M5, Tandem and LaserWash 360: Enter Instant 2 0 [enter] from remote control. 4. 8 5. Make a back up copy of the setup files. G5: a) Go to the Files page. b) Then go to the Machine Configuration page. c) Save the Machine Configuration page by going to the File menu in the browser. d) Click Save As and choose a destination folder. e) Click Save. f) Repeat for Wash Configuration and Counters pages. M5, Tandem and LaserWash 360: a) Go to the Diagnostics/Reports/Configuration. b) Save the Configuration Report page by going to the File menu in the browser. c) Click Save As and choose a destination folder. d) Click Save. e) Repeat for Package Report pages. 9 General Upgrade Procedure [A] (Basic computer skills required): A. Upgrading with a new CF Disk with pre-loaded Software. (for Upgrading an existing CF Disk with downloaded software image, see page 17) This procedure applies when a new CF disk has been purchased from PDQ that has new software already loaded on the card.! CAUTION! This upgrade will take approximately 9 minutes to complete. DO NOT RESET MACHINE UNTIL UPGRADE IS COMPLETELY DONE. 1) Perform steps in Upgrade Pre-check Section. 2) After the Viper red LED has been off for at least 15 seconds, remove power to the Viper. G5: a) Turn off the power to the conductor within the In-Bay Sign by placing the bay node circuit breaker in the off position. This is the bottom left breaker in the sign. b) Ensure the power if off the Viper looking at the LEDs on the power board next to Viper. M5, Tandem and LaserWash 360: a) Turn off the power to the conductor by using the main wash circuit breaker or the 24Vac circuit breaker on the machine. b) Ensure the power if off the Viper looking at the LEDs on the Comm/hub board under Viper. 3) Remove cover from conductor box. 4) Remove the CF disk currently in the wash Viper controller. (If there isn t a CF disk already installed, install the new CF disk directly into the Viper, skip steps #5 through #17, and go straight to step #18, restoring power to the Viper note that if this is the case and no CF disk is currently being used, an entire machine startup procedure will be necessary after the upgrade to ensure proper settings. Also note this new CF disk will permanently remain with this machine.) 5) Place the new CF card (with the new software) into the reader on the personal computer. 10 6) After 5 to 10 seconds, a window should appear regarding the CF disk that was just inserted. Choose the option to view the contents of the CF disk Note: if nothing happens within 30 seconds, open the disk manually by navigating through My Computer and then into the drive associated with the removable media, such as J:. 7) On your Windows desktop, create a new folder where we will temporarily store the new software: 1) Right-click on desktop 2) New 3) Create a new folder Give the folder any name, such as carwash files. 8) Go back to the window with the contents of the new CF disk, and copy

10) Wait at least 5 seconds, then remove the new CF card from the reader on the personal computer. 11) Place the old CF card (from the Viper) into the reader on the personal computer.

Repeat step #6 (opening the CF card to see its contents). 12) Delete certain files from the CF disk related to the old version of software: 1) Hold down the Ctrl key 2) Left-click each of these files, if they exist: <num><name>.bin loaded.dat (If they don t exist, ignore this step) 3) Right-click on any one of them 4) Click Delete 13) Return back to the window showing the new folder we created in step #6 (ex: carwash files ). These are the updated software files we copied from the new CF disk. 14) Go back again to the window with the contents of the old CF disk.

15 19) Upgrade will begin. Note: If machine resets and immediately (within 2 minutes) transitions back to maintenance mode, see Upgrade Failure Diagnostics section. G5: a. Nothing will be heard for approximately 8 minutes. b. Red LED on Viper board will flash. c. When machine resets, it will come back up, indicating upgrade has completed. M5, Tandem and LaserWash 360: a. A series of dings and audio states Loading. b. Another series of dings. c. A ding will be heard every seconds. d. After each minute a voice will be heard stating 1 minute, 2 minute, etc e. After approximately 8 minutes the conductor attempts to update Control Nodes. i. Listen for audio OK or ERROR from bay sign after each node is programmed. Note: If Error is heard when updating nodes or nothing is heard, ensure machine is in maintenance mode; use remote to manually update nodes (refer to Manually Programming a Control Node section). f. Audio states Loading Done, signaling all software is upgraded. g. Machine will reboot to maintenance mode. 20) Log onto the Wash s web page. a. Type x x=specific machine s IP address b. Type if registry had been reset or the Viper was replaced. 21) Ensure the Viper has the proper upgraded software. a. Navigate to Diagnostics/ About. b. M5, Tandem and LaserWash 360 ensure the I/O nodes have loaded properly by comparing the software version to the current software product bulletin. 22) Compare current configuration files to ones saved in Upgrade Pre-check procedures. 23) Replace conductor cover if necessary. 24) Upgrade complete.!!important!! 16 General Upgrade Procedure [B] (Basic computer skills required): B. Upgrading an existing CF Disk with downloaded software image. (for Upgrading with a new CF Disk with pre-loaded Software, see page 10) This procedure applies when an updated software image has been downloaded from PDQ and it will be installed on the existing CF disk.! CAUTION! This upgrade will take approximately 9 minutes to complete. DO NOT RESET MACHINE UNTIL UPGRADE IS COMPLETELY DONE. 1) Perform steps in Upgrade Pre-check Section. 2) After the Viper red LED has been off for at least 15 seconds, remove power to the Viper. G5: c) Turn off the power to the conductor within the In-Bay Sign by placing the bay node circuit breaker in the off position. This is the bottom left breaker in the sign. d) Ensure the power if off the Viper looking at the LEDs on the power board next to Viper. M5, Tandem and LaserWash 360: c) Turn off the power to the conductor by using the main wash circuit breaker or the 24Vac circuit breaker on the machine. d) Ensure the power if off the Viper looking at the LEDs on the Comm/hub board under Viper. 3) Remove cover from conductor box. 4) Remove the CF disk currently in the wash Viper controller. (If there isn t a CF disk already installed, one must be permanently obtained as this and future updates will require a CF disk to stay in the conductor at all times) 5) Place the CF disk (that was just removed from the Viper) into the CF disk reader attached to the Windowsbased personal computer. 17 6) After 5 to 10 seconds, a window should appear regarding the CF disk that was just inserted. 9) Open/run the update that was downloaded from PDQ: 1) Put the drive letter (from step #8) [with colon] into this box 2) Ensure this box is checked 3) Click Unzip and wait a minute 4) After

Daylights.exe c. XMail.exe d. Conductor.exe e. Ignition.exe f. DebugCE.exe! CAUTION! If any of the above Exe s are listed with a Process ID and/or Thread Count, the upgrade process SHOULD NOT be run. e. M5, Tandem and LaserWash 360: After approximately 7 minutes conductor attempts to update Control Nodes. i. The same dings and voices will be heard as described in upgrade procedures above. ii.

Listen for audio OK or ERROR from bay sign after each node is programmed. Note: If Error is heard when updating nodes or nothing is heard, ensure machine is in maintenance mode; use remote to manually update nodes (refer to Manually Programming a Control Node section). f. Viper will reset and come up in maintenance mode. 9) Log onto the Wash s web page. a. Type x. x=specific machine s IP address b. Type if registry had been reset. 10) Ensure the Viper has the proper upgraded software. a. Diagnostics/ about. b. On M5, Tandem and LaserWash 360: ensure the I/O nodes have loaded properly by comparing the software version to the current software product bulletin. 11) Compare current configuration files to ones saved in Upgrade Pre-check procedures. 24 Upgrade Failure Diagnostics If upgrade fails to start and machine immediately comes back up in maintenance mode try the following: 1. Verify CF disk properly inserted into Viper. 2. Verify PDQ approved CF card is being used. 3. Verify correct files are loaded on CF disk. See upgrade pre-checks for proper files. a) Verify Loaded.dat file is not included on CF disk files. b) Verify file names are correct. 4. Verify there are not any duplicate files. 5. Once above steps are verified, try the procedure over again by resetting the machine. A utility located within the upgrade files can help determine why an upgrade failed to occur. (Good working knowledge of computer skills required). 1. Go to local computer s command prompt. 2. Type Telnet xxx (where xxx represents the IP of the machine). 3. Type CD CFDisk [enter]. 4. Type Ding [enter] This will inform the user why a particular upgrade process would not run. Some examples that may be seen: Loaded.dat file exists Too many or missing.bin file(s) Too many or missing.nb0 file(s) PDQ.BAT file missing PDQUpgrade.exe file missing. This will also inform users of warnings during the upgrade process such as NetbackupRestore.exe file missing or ps.exe file missing.
