3 3 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1. Purpose and Scope of this document This document describes the behavior of the Scan Router utility. In addition, screenshots and examples will be used to describe how to perform certain tasks of Scan Router. For the sake of our purposes, the examples used outline the setup of Scan Router with the Océ 3275 digital copier / printer, as well as, the Océ 31X5 series copier / printer devices. The steps used can be mirrored for any scan-enabled device that supports PIN access.

4 4 2. Functionality 2.1. Adding Océ 3275 printers 1.Start Océ Scan Router. (Picture 2.1) Picture Click [CONFIGURE PRINTERS] button. 3.Type IP address of desired 3275 in any available textbox numbered 1 through 10. By default all the textboxes numbered 1 through 10 will be blank. (Picture 2.2) Picture 2.2

5 5 4. (OPTIONAL STEP) To assure network connectivity of the IP address click the [Check IP] button located to the right of the 3275 textbox field filled in the previous step. When the form labeled "IP Pinging Utility" appears (picture 2.3), click the [Test] button. If the IP address entered is connected to an active device (such as a 3275) in the network the test result will be favorable (picture 2.4). If the IP address leads to an inactive connection or perhaps is the wrong address, it may return an unfavorable result (picture 2.5). Please note that this Scan Router built in utility cannot determine what type of network device is connected on the other end it only tests for a valid IP address. It is the users responsibility to enter the correct IP address. Picture 2.3 Picture IP is valid Picture There is a problem with the IP 5. Click the [Exit] button to return to the Printer Configuration form (picture 2.2). 6. Click [OK] to return to the starting screen of Scan Router. 7. Click [Save] to save your settings and proceed to the next section or click [Exit] to leave Scan Router. (If an IP address has been added or changed, Scan Router will restart its service (pictures 3.7, 3.8) Configuring a Rule(s) (PIN(s) and PATHS) 1. Additionally, Scan Router can be configured to scan the 3275 for print jobs corresponding to a certain PIN code or range of PIN codes. From the starting Scan Router screen start by clicking the [Add] button located on the right side. 2. The 'Add a new PIN range and Path' window will apears. The fields will be blank by default. Picture When setting up one account, enter the corresponding 4-digit PIN code into the left outmost textbox (example 0004). Then enter that same code into the adjacent text box. (Picture 2.7) Picture (OPTIONAL STEP) In order to set up a list of consecutive PIN codes set the first of the PIN codes in the left outmost text box and the last of the PIN codes into the next one (picture 2.8).

The path can be typed directly into the 'Desired Output Path' textbox (picture 2.9) or the user can browse to the path by clicking on the browse button [ ] and use the directory browser window to find the desired path. ***The path must be a local drive and cannot be a shared or other network drive. (Picture 3.0) Picture 2.9 Picture After the path is entered, click [OK] to accept the settings and return to the main screen or [Cancel] to cancel and return to the main screen. 7. This new Rule that we created is now listed in the main screen of Scan Router.

7 7 Picture Click [Save] to save the settings and proceed to the next section or click [Exit] to leave Scan Router Defining an output directory for an Océ Start Scan Router. 2. Click the [Configure Printers] button. 3. In the middle of the form, a section called '3165 Scanned Image Output Directory is now visible'. Type in a path for the 3165 in the text box or use the browse button. When typed in, the form should look like picture 3.2. ***The path must be a local drive and cannot be a shared or other network drive. Picture Click [OK] to return to the main screen. 5. Click [Save] to save your settings and proceed to the next section or click [Exit] to leave Scan Router. 2.3a How to configure the 3165 scan destinations After Scan Router is configured, it is necessary to configure the 3165 itself. There are two ways to accomplish this: 1) For a small workgroup (5-10 people): In Print Logic, all users need to have their profiles created. In each profile, set the "application name" to the person's PIN code. (4 digits) 2) For a group larger than 5-10 people: In Print Logic, one Profile has to be created for all the users. In the profile, leave the "Application name" blank. In the same profile then change the Max and Min pin code settings to Editing a Rule (a PIN(s) and PATH designation) 1. Start ScanRouter. 2. Select one of the 'Rules' we have configured by clicking on it once. ( A Rule is a PIN or PINs and the corresponding PATH). The selected Rules is now highlighted in blue (picture 3.3).

8 8 Picture Click the [Edit] button. 4. Make desired modifications (picture 3.4). Picture Click [OK] to accept settings. 6. To delete a 'Rule', select one of the 'Rules' we have configured by clicking on it once. Click the [Remove] button. The Removal becomes permanent when the next step is completed. 7. Click [Save] to save the settings and proceed to the next section or click [Exit] to leave Scan Router Configuring the Polling Interval 1. Start Scan Router. 2. Click the [Configure Printers] button. 3. Looking at the bottom left of the form a text box labeled, "Polling Interval" will become visible (picture 3.2). This is a value is measured in seconds and determines the frequency of which Scan Router will check for print jobs. The default value is 10 seconds. To change this value, simply click on textbox and overwrite it with a new one. 4. Click [OK] to accept settings. 5. Click [Save] to save the settings and proceed to the next section or click [Exit] to leave Scan Router Adjusting, Viewing and Purging the Scan Router Application Log 1. Start Scan Router. 2. Click the [Configure Log] button. 3. The Scan Router application log level of detail can be adjusted by moving the level control up for more and down for less detail (see picture 3.5 below).

9 9 Picture The log can be viewed by clicking on the [View Application Log] button located on the same form to the right of the level. The log can also be viewed from the main form when clicking the [View Log] button. 5. The purpose of the [Purge Application Log] is to delete the log file. Because this procedure requires for the Scan Router service to be restarted, after clicking on the [Purge Application Log] button, will bring up a prompt asking for verification to proceed(picture 3.6). Picture Clicking [No] will only return the user to the previous screen. If [Yes] is selected, Scan Router will restart the service and it will keep the user informed with its progress (pictures 3.7, 3.8). Picture 3.7 Picture Click the [Ok] prompts. 8. The Log size can be adjusted by typing in a new value in the 'Adjust log size' textbox located below the 'Pure Application Log' button. The default value is 200kb. 9. Click [OK] to accept settings. 10. Click [Save] to save the settings and proceed to the next section or click [Exit] to leave Scan Router.

10 Enabling/Disabling, Compacting the Scan Router Accounting Log 1. Start Scan Router. 2. Click the [Configure Printers] button. 3. Scan Router accounting can be enabled/disabled by checking/unchecking the accounting log checkbox (picture 3.8). Enabling/disabling Accounting will trigger the Scan Router service to restart. The default value is enabled. Picture The [Compact] button combines all existing accounting files (except the current one) into one text file called accounting.txt and deletes all the individual files. 5. The [Instant Purge] button deletes all individual accounting files older than 30 days from the current date. 6. Click [OK] to accept settings. 7. Click [Save] to save the settings and proceed to the next section or click [Exit] to leave ScanRouter Version information 1. Start Scan Router. 2. From the top drop down menu, click [Help], [About].

11 11 3. Licensing The service is protected by a license key to prevent uncontrolled proliferation. Upon running the first time (during installation), the user will be given the Host ID and prompted for the key. The user can: * get the key from Software Fulfillment, enter it and press OK. The dialog will not appear again and the software is fully enabled. * click on the trial period button and to start a 30 days trial period. The dialog will come up every time the PC is restarted or the service is restarted. In some cases, it may be necessary to login and start the service manually since the dialog cannot appear if there are no other users logged in. After 30 days, it will be impossible to restart the service unless the correct key is entered. * cancel out and the software will NOT be succesfully installed. Note that once the the main system hard disk (or reformat) is changed, the host system ID will also change. If the user cancels out of the registration window DURING installation, the product will have to be installed again. Alternately, the service can be installed manually by running (typically) "c:\program files\oce Scan Router\ocescanrouter -install". If the user cancels out of the registration window at service startup, simply restart the service manually from the service control panel.
