3 Section 1 Introduction Introduction The P1322 measurement system consists of a PC running Windows XP Professional (or Windows Vista), PC software described herein, and a BenchMike 183 ID/OD/Wall BenchMike. Installation To install the P1322 software, create a directory on the C: drive named C:\P1322 and copy the file named P1322.exe to that directory. To run P1322, click Run on the Windows Start Menu and select C:\P1322\P1322.exe, double click C:\P1322\P1322.exe from within Windows Explorer, or create and use a shortcut on the Windows desktop. Running P1322 for the First Time The first time P1322 is run, communications with the BenchMike are defaulted to OFF and the communication parameters are defaulted to 9600 baud, no parity, 8 data bits, and 1 stop bit. Be sure to match the serial port configuration of the BenchMike (refer to the BenchMike Operator s Manual) to the communications settings of P1322. Any changes made to the COM Port Settings will be saved to disk and retrieved the next time P1322 is run. BenchMike Configuration In addition to matching the communications settings of the BenchMike to those of P1322, the BenchMike must be configured for eight rotations and to automatically transmit the wall, OD, and ID values at the completion of each reading (refer to the BenchMike Operator s Manual for serial data output). 4 Section 2 P1322 Main Window Tool Buttons Start/Stop Batch Click Start Batch to specify a folder and file name to which data will be saved and ready the software for data collection from the BenchMike. Note: Data from the BenchMike will only be accepted when a batch has been started Click Stop Batch to stop accepting data from the BenchMike. Clear Data Click Clear Data to manually clear the displayed data. Note: The displayed data will be cleared automatically at the beginning of a new batch and when the first reading of a new part is received. BadgerWare, LLC Page 2 of 5

5 Data Display The displayed data is updated with each reading received from the BenchMike at the end of a rotation. Average OD Max - Min OD Wall Values The average of all OD measurements received is displayed. The difference between the maximum OD and minimum OD measurement (i.e Out of Round) is displayed. All eight individual wall measurements are displayed. Menu To access the P1322 Menu, click Menu in the upper left hand corner of the Main Window. COM Port Click COM Port to display the Configure COM Port window. Exit Click Exit to exit from P1322. About Click About to display the P1322 version information. BadgerWare, LLC Page 3 of 5

6 Section 3 Configure COM Port Click COM Port on the Menu to display the Configure COM Port window. COM Port settings are configurable for communication with the BenchMike. These settings must match those of the BenchMike. COM Port Baud Rate Parity Data Bits Stop Bits Specifies the COM Port of the PC to which the BenchMike is connected. Specifies the baud rate of the serial communication between the PC and the BenchMike (300, 600, 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600, or 19200). Specifies the parity for the serial communication between the PC and the BenchMike (none, odd, or even). Specifies the number of data bits for the serial communication between the PC and the BenchMike (7 or 8). Specifies the number of stop bits for the serial communication between the PC and the BenchMike (1 or 2). OK Cancel Click OK to accept changes. Click Cancel to discard changes. 7 Section 4 Batch Data When Start Batch on the Main Window is clicked, the Save Data As dialog window is displayed. Data can be saved to any local or network folder. Specify the location and filename and click Save to begin a new or resume an existing batch. Data is written to a Microsoft Excel file. The format of the batch file is: Average OD Max - Min OD Wall #1 Wall #2 Wall #3 Wall #4 Wall #5 Wall #6 Wall #7 Wall # Note: It is not possible to have the batch file open in Excel for viewing the data as it is collected.
