2 What is a backup? A backup makes a copy of all the information you have entered into Eclipse and assures you are protected in the event of a fire or other catastrophe. The computer copies the information to a backup media device, and you should store it in a protected place such as a fireproof safe or at home. Then, if a catastrophe occurs, you may restore your backup files and continue without loss of information. Contact your Agency s hardware vendor for information regarding media options and for training in loading/restoring a backup. NASA Customer Support is NOT responsible for training and support of the agency backup system. You must backup the Eclipse files at the end of each workday to ensure that all information is safe in the event of a computer hardware problem. If you do not backup your files daily, you risk losing all the information entered since the last time you backed up the hard drive. NASA recommends that you establish a backup system to create 10 days worth of backups. For example, if you are using a tape backup system, use ten tapes. Number a tape for each day of the week in a two week period. The first week would be, Monday 1, Tuesday, Wednesday 1, etc. The second week, Monday 2, Tuesday 2, Wednesday 3, etc. You should always use these tapes in consecutive order to ensure a good backup. To ensure you are backing up all the necessary files, customize your backup program to back up the Eclipse folder/directory on the Server. If you are not backing up the entire Eclipse folder/directory, backup the following items located within the Eclipse folder/directory: ACORD Forms Folder Agency Letters Folder Attachments Folder Folder Images Folder Reports Folder Signatures Folder Template Attachments Templates Folder Warpexch.dat (if using Realtime in Eclipse) Nasafile.bak file in Data\Backup Folder. The Nasafile.bak file is a restore file that must be created daily on the server, prior to the full backup. Instructions for creating this file follow on the subsequent pages. The hardware representative and the agency are fully responsible for developing a standard backup routine and ensuring that a complete and reliable backup is occurring each night.

3 Configure and run the EclipseBackup.exe to create the nasafile.bak On the server, navigate to the Eclipse folder. Doubleclick the EclipseBackup.exe. The Eclipse folder on your server may be in a different location than indicated here. It is the responsibility of the agency to know this location. Make any changes to the Eclipse Backup/Restore here. It is normal to accept the defaults. If you change the backup location, for example, make note of the new location. As you will need to include this file in your full backup. The backup location must be on the Server. Attempting to run the backup across the network may fail. To have Daily Backups created make sure to check Store Daily Backups. If you changed any of the information on this window you must save your settings. Click Save Settings. Click on the Backup Database button. Click OK and then Close. You should now have an updated Nasafile.bak file in the Eclipse\Data\Backup folder on the server. Verify the file was successfully created. This restore file should be included in the full backup of your Eclipse System.

4 Instructions for Windows Vista/Windows 7/ Windows 8/Windows 10 You may use the Windows Task Scheduler to set up automatic backups of the Nasafile.bak restore file. Your server logon credentials MUST contain a password. You MUST run the EclipseBackup.exe (and save settings) at least once before setting up the Windows Task Scheduler. On the server, click the Windows Start Button. Search for Task Scheduler, click to launch the Task Scheduler. On the right side of this window, click on the Create Basic Task link. The Task Wizard will walk you through the steps. First, enter a name for this task such as shown here Eclipse Restore Point. Click Next.

5 Select how often you want this task to run, NASA strongly recommends Daily. Click Next. Set the Trigger date and time to be completed when as few users are logged into Eclipse as possible. Recur every: 1 day. This computer (the server) must be on at the scheduled time for the creation of the restore file/nasafile.bak to happen. Select Start a program. Click Next.

6 Click on the Browse button. Navigate to the EclipseBackup.exe, in the Eclipse folder on the server. Click on EclipseBackup to select it. Click open. Add the text, AutoBackup, including the quotation marks, to the Add arguments field. The text in the Start in field should reflect the location of the Eclipse folder on the server. This should match the information in the Program/script: field minus the /EclipseBackup.exe. Click Next.

7 Confirm your settings: You can click the Back button if you need to make changes to any of the settings. Put a checkmark in the Open the Properties dialog for this task when I click Finish. Click Finish. Select the Run whether user is logged on or not and also checkmark Run with highest privileges. Click OK.

8 The Username and Password you enter here is your Windows network username and password. If you do not know these contact your network administrator. If you change your network username and password in the future, the settings here will need to be updated. Click OK. To edit your settings in Task Scheduler: Log into the server. On the server, click the Windows Start Button. Search for Task Scheduler, click to launch the Task Scheduler. In the window, as shown below, double-click the Eclipse Restore task, to open the dialogue box, for editing. Refer back the first page for instructions on including the nasafile.bak restore file in the daily full backup of your Eclipse System. The creation of the nasafile.bak restore file should be complete before the full backup of the Eclipse System is allowed to begin each day.

9 Verify that the creation of Nasafile.bak restore file is taking place. You may want to add a shortcut to your workstation desktop to easily verify the nasafile.bak restore file has been completed. Navigate to the Eclipse folder on the server from your workstation and open the Data folder. Right Click on the Backup folder, choose Send To and Desktop. Periodically open the shortcut on your desktop and verify the date of the file under (Date Modified). If you do not see the Date Modified information, go to View at the top of the window and select Details. If your restore file is not updating (date modified is not changing), refer to all previous setup info for correction options. NASA recommends you verify periodically that both your Nasafile.bak restore file is being created plus your full Eclipse System backups are taking place. The hardware representative and the agency are responsible for developing a standard backup routine and ensuring that a complete and reliable backup is occurring each night.
