3 Introduction 2 1 Introduction 1.1 Welcome The Hub allows several STATEL workstations to combine and manage the traffic to and from the remote parties. There are several advantages to using the hub, as compared to having each workstation establish its own connections. There is only one connection to the outside world to maintain, meaning lower maintenance costs and lower security risks. Workstation communications occur at the speed of the local area network connection, not the connection to the remote party. The transmission and reception of PDUs can be scheduled for those periods of maximum bandwidth availability. 1.2 Requirements Hub Machine One PC running Windows NT 4 Server or Workstation (at least service pack 3) or higher. TCP/IP installed. All planned STATEL workstation should be connect to the Hub using TCP/IP. Disk space The Hub machine should have sufficient free disk space. How much free disk space is needed? The hub will store temporary all incoming and outcoming STATEL files. Therefore, it is not easy to make an accurate recommendation. Consider that 100 MB of free space is the minimum recommended. Connectivity An access to external network ( Internet, TESTA ) if the external Hub will use FTP or HTTP. For Internet mail, an access to both SMTP and POP3 server should be available. In addition, one (and only one) dedicated mailbox should be created on POP3 server. 2 Installation 2.1 Download installer program Download You can start downloading the software now. During the download which could take a while, you have the opportunity to read the installation guide. Save the downloaded file into the directory of your choice. Running the installer program Locate and open the directory you saved into. Double click the installer program icon. The filename is statelhub.exe.

4 3 STATEL Hub Installation. 2.2 Installation New installation or upgrade? The installer is able to detect an existing installation. If so, it will stop the services, replace files having a version number lower and restart the services at the end of the upgrade. Select the destination directory You can accept or modify the proposed destination folder. If you need to amend the proposed value, there are some important remarks to keep in mind. select a disk partition which enough free disk space. Remember that all incoming and outgoing files will remain on the hub until they are acknowledged. the disk partition can be either FAT or NTFS (recommended). avoid the installation on a network drive. It is really not recommended for installing NT service. avoid the installation on a compressed disk partition or folder. Select the transient data directory

5 Installation 4 Accept or modify the proposed value. Note that the proposed value is a subdirectory located into the main application directory. You are free to select any directory but it is highly recommended to select or create a directory located on the same disk partition that the Hub program because the hub use its own temporary director in the main application directory. A file move is performed from that directory to the transient data directory. It is important that the file move is an atomic operation to avoid operation on an incomplete file. The only way to accomplish such an atomic operation is that the source and destination directory reside on the same disk partition. Press next to begin Installation of STATEL Hub. Installation complete

6 5 STATEL Hub Installation The installation is finished. Click Finish to start the Hub controller application if this was a new installation. If it was an upgrade, the services (previously installed in the Service Control Manager) will be restarted.

The first tasks to do will be: make the necessary configuration changes. install the services in the Windows Service Control Manager. start the services Click the help icon and read carefully the Hub online help. 2.3 Post-installation tasks First Tasks The first tasks to do will be: make the necessary configuration changes. install the services in the Windows Service Control Manager. start the services. For more details, please read the online help of the STATEL Hub. Testing internal Hub Start the service as explained in the online help. Install at least a Statel PC. At the end of STATEL installation, the installer program will start a connection to the HUB. This connection will: check the connectivity

8 7 STATEL Hub Installation register the first SNN on the Hub. After connecting the STATEL PC, take a look on the internal log to check that the connection was successful. Testing external Hub Start the service. The first connection to the ftp (or http) server will start approximately 2 minutes later (providing that the current time is inside the range time limit you defined). After 2 minutes, display the Operations log and search in the log for a possible connection failure and the error message. If something goes wrong, run the Tools -> Help Desk and Click collect and zip information. Then, send the zip file produced to the help desk. 2.4 Troubleshooting In case of any trouble, feel free to contact the help desk staff. Please, use the Help Desk tool provided by the Hub Controller to prepare an information package intended for the support. Select Tools -> Help Desk and click Click collect and zip information. Then, send the zip file prepared to the Help Desk.
