1 Uninstalling Internet Explorer 11 How to uninstall Internet Explorer 11 and roll back to Internet Explorer 10 Purpose of this document Microsoft has pushed out Internet Explorer 11 as an automatic update. This particular version of Internet Explorer has functionality issues with our company website, and is not supported at the moment. Instructions Some of these issues include, but are not limited to: Unable to log on to isip, even when the correct password is used After logging on, a mobile menu system appears Certain applications on isip fail to function Our web access page looks or behaves differently If you re having any of the above issues, please try this guide. This document provides a step-by-step walkthrough of: Removal of the Internet Explorer 11 update Hiding the update in Windows Update, so it doesn t install again Ensuring that Internet Explorer 10, (the version that is being rolled back to), is compatible with our company website 1. First, make sure you are indeed running Internet Explorer 11, and disable new versions from being downloaded in the application itself. In the window that opens, Click the Internet Settings button, (in the remove the check from the upper right corner, looks like a cog), and Install new versions then click About Internet Explorer. automatically checkbox. Then, hit Close.

2 2. Next, we will remove the Internet Explorer 11 update. a. Close out of Internet Explorer, (any open windows), by clicking the X in the top right corner. b. Click Start (Windows button), and in the right hand column, select Control Panel. c. Once the Control Panel loads, click on Programs.

3 d. Once Programs window loads, click on View installed updates. e. In the Installed Updates window that loads, type internet explorer in the search box. Look in the search results that appear in the window below for Internet Explorer 11. Right-click on it, and select Uninstall.

4 f. A box may come up asking if you re sure you want to uninstall the update. If it does, click Yes. g. You will see the following status screen. Let it complete.

5 h. Once done, you will be prompted to restart windows. Choose Restart Now. i. You will see the Windows logoff screen, and Windows is configuring updates. The computer will reboot, and you will see the Windows is configuring updates message again. Once it is done, Windows will load, and you should be able to sign in. Internet Explorer 11 is now uninstalled. 3. The next step is to configure Windows Update to not download the Internet Explorer 11 update again. a. Load Windows Update Click Start (Windows button). Then, click All Programs. Then, find and click Windows Update.

6 b. Once Windows Update loads, we ll need to refresh the available updates list, to force Internet Explorer 11 to appear in the list of updates. To do this, in the left pane, click Check for updates. After checking for updates, the available updates will be listed in the center window. Most times, Internet Explorer 11 will be listed under optional updates. Click the link to the optional updates. c. In the list of updates, find Internet Explorer 11. Right-click on it, and select Hide Update. Then, at the bottom, click Close. The update has now been hidden, and will not be installed or come up in future update checks. 4. Now that we ve removed Internet Explorer 11, and configured Windows to not install it again, we need to make sure that Internet Explorer 10, (the version that Windows defaults back to when Internet Explorer 11 is removed), is configured to display/run our company website. a. Press the Alt key on your keyboard to bring up the top menu. Choose Tools from that menu.

7 Under Tools, go to Compatibility View settings. b. Add *.stateindustrial.com to the Compatibility View websites list, or select Display all websites in Compatibility View. c. Hit Close. Now, when you open our company website, things should be functional again.
