2 HP RP7 Retail System, HP RP7 Overview This Lab Guide is for students who have completed the HP RP7 Retail System Web-based Training and would like to gain hands-on experience. Step-by-step instructions are provided for students who have an HP RPU and would like to practice. 3 Lab Guide Configure POSReady 7 advanced features including: BitLocker BitLocker to Go AppLocker File Based Write Filter Keyboard Filter Access and explore HP Recovery Manager Required equipment To complete these labs, you will need an HP RP7 Retail System, Model 7100 with the following options installed: Adjustable Stand HP Retail Integrated Fingerprint Reader HP Retail Integrated Dual-Head MSR HP Retail Integrated Webcam POSReady 7 In addition, you will need the following tools to complete these labs: Torx T15 screwdriver FailSafe key (a special star-shaped screwdriver bit) if a security screw has locked the Access Door Soft, non-abrasive surface Note: if you have the HP RP7 Retail System, Model 7800, please refer to the Model 7800 lab guide for instructions on completing the labs. 4 HP RP7 Retail System, HP RP7 Lab 1 Explore the hardware After completing this lab you will be able to: Locate the C15/C16 couplers on the Power Supply Locate the SODIMM Locate the Clear CMOS button and the Clear Passwords jumper Install the cover for the Secure USB port Remove the Base Unit Locate the Hard Drive Cage Identify the I/O ports Locate the C15/C16 couplers on the Power Supply The HP RP7 uses C15/C16 couplers instead of the C13/C14 couplers used with previous HP Retail Systems. This provides better thermal tolerance for the unit. Take a minute to observe these couplers. 1. Unplug the HP RP7 from the wall outlet. 2. Pull the Power Supply Cover back then lift if up and off the unit 3. Disconnect the AC power cord from the Cable Retainer Clip on the side of the Adjustable Stand. 4. Disconnect the AC power cord from the Power Supply brick. 5. Observe the C15/C16 connectors on the AC power cord and Power Supply brick. 6. Reconnect the AC power cord to the Power Supply brick. 7. Reconnect the AC power cord to the Cable Retainer Clip on the side of the Adjustable Stand. 8. Replace the Power Supply Cover. 9. Leave the AC power unplugged from the wall outlet for the next few labs. LG 4 HP Restricted September 2012

5 Lab Guide Locate the SODIMM Make sure the AC Power is unplugged from the wall outlet for this lab. 1. Slide back the decorative panel at the top of the access door. 2. If present, loosen the security screw. 3. Push in firmly on the back of the access door to disengage the retaining hooks and pull it straight up. 4. Rotate the access door back until it is fully open. 5. Locate the memory module. 6. Leave the access door open for the next portion of the lab. Locate the Clear CMOS button and the Clear Passwords jumper You can access the Clear CMOS button and the Clear Passwords jumper from the access door. 1. Locate the Clear CMOS button to the right of the memory module. 2. Locate the Clear Passwords above the CMOS button. 3. Close the access door, and retighten the security screw (if present). Install the cover for the Secure USB port The Secure USB port can be used with or without the Security Screw. This portion of the lab walks you through Security Screw installation. 1. Slide the two release latches down on the upper corners of the rear I/O cover, and then rotate the cover back and remove. 2. Remove the security screw if one is installed 3. Locate the Security Cover at the base of the I/O panel. 4. Push in on the tab at the bottom of the Security Cover and rotate the bottom of the cover back to remove. 5. Insert a USB device if desired. 6. Insert the top of the Security Cover into the I/O panel at an angle, with the bottom of the cover slightly raised. 7. Rotate the bottom down to snap the cover into place. 8. If the USB device has a cable, place the cable in the channel on the side of the Security Cover. 9. If one was present, re-install the security screw. 10. Leave the I/O Cover Panel off for an upcoming lab. September 2012 HP Restricted LG 5

6 HP RP7 Retail System, HP RP7 Remove the base unit 1. Slide back the decorative panel at the top of the access door and loosen the security screw if one is present. 2. Push in firmly on the back of the access door to disengage the retaining hooks and pull it straight up. 3. Rotate the access door back until it is fully open. 4. Rotate the two antenna brackets out and away from the unit. 5. Loosen the four Torx 15 captive screws that secure the base unit to the rear cover at the top of the unit and near the rear I/O compartment. 6. Grasp the sides of the base unit and pull it off the rear cover. Important! There are adhesive thermal pads between the back plate and thermal module. The thermal pads should remain attached to the thermal module. If any become loose while removing the thermal module, replace them. 7. Place the base unit face down on a soft, non-abrasive surface. Leave the base unit off for the next lab. Locate the Hard Drive Cage The Model 7100 requires you to remove the rear I/O cover and the base unit. These should already be removed from the previous labs. 1. Squeeze the two retaining tabs at the front of the hard drive access door and rotate the door open. 2. Locate the Hard Drive Cage. 3. Grasp the pull-tab on the front of the hard drive and pull the drive out of the drive bay. Although HDD removal is toolless, you will need a Torx T15 screwdriver to remove the screws of the carrier when replacing the HDD. 4. Replace the HDD into the Hard Drive Cage, and then close the Hard Drive Cage. 5. Leave the Back Cover and I/O Cover Panel off for the next portion of the lab. LG 6 HP Restricted September 2012

7 Lab Guide Identify the I/O ports Use the graphic below to locate each of the I/O ports. Replace the Back Cover and I/O Cover Panel when finished, reattach the base unit, and reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet. September 2012 HP Restricted LG 7

8 HP RP7 Retail System, HP RP7 Lab 2 Set up the HP RP7 After completing this lab, you will be able to: Access and explore the Computer Setup Utility Install pre-loaded operating system Calibrate the Touchscreen Access the Touchscreen and CFD On Screen Display menus Access and explore the Computer Setup Utility Turn on the HP RP7 and press F10 to access the Computer Setup Utility. Explore the Computer Setup Utility and locate the following: 1. Where can you change the boot order? 2. Where can you enable the Bat Cave USB port (the Bat Cave USB port is the Secure USB port? 3. Where can you change Voltage settings for the Serial Ports? 4. Where can you find the L3 cache size? 5. Where can you find the size of installed HDDs? 6. 9 Lab Guide Install pre-loaded operating system Turn on the HP RP7. Follow the prompts on the screen to install the pre-loaded operating system. Be sure to record the username and password that you create in the space below. Username: Password: Calibrate the touchscreen 1. Launch the Windows Calibration Tool from the Windows buttonall ProgramsLaunch Windows Calibration Tool. 2. Tap the crosshair each time that it appears on the screen. 3. Right-click anywhere on the screen (touch and hold) to return to the last calibration point. 4. Press ESC to close the tool. September 2012 HP Restricted LG 9

10 HP RP7 Retail System, HP RP7 Access the Touchscreen On Screen Display menus There is an OSD for the touchscreen and one for the CFD. They are both accessed the same way using capacitive technology. Use the touchscreen OSD for this lab and repeat on the CFD OSD if there is one available. Use the graphic below to help you navigate the OSD. 1. Access the OSD icons (items 1 through 4 above) by touching to the left of the touchscreen Power LED (item 5 above). A touch causes the OSD icons display. 2. Touch the Menu icon. The OSD Main Menu displays. 3. The first menu option, Brightness, is highlighted, touch OK to select it. 4. Use the + and icons to decrease and increase brightness. Note the changes in the display. Touch OK twice to exit this option. 5. Now explore the Color menu option. Use the + or icon to highlight the Color menu option and touch OK. LG 10 HP Restricted September 2012

11 Lab Guide 6. Use the + icon select the Warm (5000K) option. Note the color change in the display. 7. Touch two times to select the Cool (9300K) option. Note the color change in the display. 8. Touch - to select the Custom (RGS) option and touch OK. Note that this option, allows you to set the saturation for Red (R), Green (G), and Blue (B). 9. Touch to select G and touch OK. 10. Hold down the icon to set G at 115. Note the color change in the display. Touch OK. 11. Now B is highlighted. Touch OK. 12. Hold down the icon to set B at 115. Note the color change in the display. Touch OK. 13. The Save and return option is highlighted. Press OK two times to exit this option. 14. Use the and + icons to highlight OSD Control and touch OK. 15. Change the Horizontal OSD position and Vertical OSD position until you have the OSD Menu on the center of the screen. 16. Change the OSD Timeout to the 60 second maximum. 17. Save and Return is highlighted, touch OK to save your changes. 18. Select the Information option to view the details provided there. Record the following for your touchscreen: Recommended Settings Serial Number Firmware Version Backlight Hours 19. Perform a Factory Reset. September 2012 HP Restricted LG 11

12 HP RP7 Retail System, HP RP7 Lab 3 Configure supported peripherals After completing this lab you will be able to configure the following peripherals: HP Retail Integrated Webcam HP Retail Integrated Dual-Head MSR HP Retail Integrated Fingerprint Reader HP Retail Integrated Webcam Verify that an HP Retail Integrated Webcam is installed properly. The Windows drivers should load automatically. 1. Verify that the drivers are loaded properly from the Device Manager. Touch the Windows buttoncontrol PanelHardware and SoundDevice Manager. 2. Expand Imaging devices and verify that the HP High Definition 1MP Webcam driver is loaded with no yellow exclamation points. 3. Expand Sound, video and game controllers to verify that the WebCam Record 01 driver is loaded with no yellow exclamation points. 4. Leave the Device Manager Window open for the next portion of the lab. 5. You can test the WebCam using HP s My Room site. Open a browser on the HP RP7 and go to LG 12 HP Restricted September 2012

13 Lab Guide 6. Click Download Now to download the software to the HP RP7. Run the file to install it. 7. Accept the End User License agreement and click Continue. 8. The MyRoom sign in screen displays. Click Create a New Account. 9. Follow the directions to create a MyRoom account and Sign In. September 2012 HP Restricted LG 13

14 HP RP7 Retail System, HP RP7 10. The MyRoom page displays. Touch the Rooms tab. 11. Touch the + icon at the bottom-left corner to create a new room. 12. The New Room dialogue displays. Enter a name for the Room and touch OK. 13. The Room name now displays. Touch the room name to open it. 14. The Room window displays. Touch the camera icon in the top-right corner to display the Webcam feed. Touch the camera icon again to close the Webcam feed. Close any open windows. LG 14 HP Restricted September 2012

15 Lab Guide HP Retail Integrated Dual-Head MSR Verify that an HP Retail Integrated Dual-Head MSR is installed properly. The Windows drivers should load automatically. 1. Verify that the drivers are loaded properly from the Device Manager. (If you need to open the Device Manager, touch the Windows buttoncontrol PanelHardware and SoundDevice Manager.) 2. Expand Human Interface Devices and verify that the HID-compliant consumer control device driver is loaded with no yellow exclamation points. 3. Expand Keyboards and verify that there is an HID Keyboard Device driver loaded with no yellow exclamation points. 4. Open Notepad (Windows buttonall ProgramsAccessoriesNotepad). 5. Swipe a card with a mag stripe through the Dual-Head MSR. A good read is indicated by a double-beep. 6. If the read is good, the information from the card populates Notepad. 7. This is a Dual-Head MSR. Swipe the card with the mag stripe facing the other way. If the read is good, you will hear a double-beep and the information displays on notepad. Close Notepad. 16 HP RP7 Retail System, HP RP7 HP Retail Integrated Fingerprint Reader Verify that an HP Retail Integrated Fingerprint Reader is installed properly. The Windows drivers should load automatically. 1. Verify that the drivers are loaded properly from the Device Manager. (If you need to open the Device Manager, touch the Windows buttoncontrol PanelHardware and SoundDevice Manager.) 2. Expand Biometric Devices and verify that the HP Retail Fingerprint Reader-By DigitalPersona driver is loaded with no yellow exclamation points. 3. Download HP ProtectTools Security Manager from p?lang=en&cc=us&prodtypeid=321957&prodseriesid= &prodnameid= &swEnvOID=4054&swLang=13&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=ob Execute the SoftPaq and follow the prompts to install HP ProtectTools Security Manager. Allow the installer to restart your system 5. Go to the Windows buttonhp ProtectTools Administrative Console. LG 16 HP Restricted September 2012

17 Lab Guide 6. Touch the Setup Wizard to start the Setup Wizard and touch Next to continue. 7. Enter your Windows password when prompted and touch Next. 8. Accept the Security Level and touch Next. 9. Verify that the Fingerprints option is selected and touch Next. 10. Touch which fingerprint you want to enroll. September 2012 HP Restricted LG 17

18 HP RP7 Retail System, HP RP7 11. Touch that finger to the reader until enrollment is complete. 12. A dialogue displays when enrollment is successful for that fingerprint. 13. Enroll a second fingerprint. When that enrollment is successful, touch Next and then touch Finish. 14. Log out of Windows. 15. Touch one of your enrolled fingerprints to the reader to log onto Windows. LG 18 HP Restricted September 2012

19 Lab Guide HP RP inch Customer Facing Display (CFD) Verify that an HP RP inch CFD is installed properly. The Windows drivers should load automatically. 1. Verify that the drivers are loaded properly from the Device Manager. (If you need to open the Device Manager, touch the Windows buttoncontrol PanelHardware and SoundDevice Manager.) 2. Expand Monitors and verify that a Generic PnP Monitor driver is loaded with no yellow exclamation points. 3. Turn on the CFD. It should display what the touchscreen displays. 20 HP RP7 Retail System, HP RP7 Lab 4 Configure POSReady 7 advanced features After completing this lab, you will be able to configure POSReady 7 advanced features including: BitLocker BitLocker to Go AppLocker BitLocker BitLocker and BitLocker to Go work very similarly. Manage BitLocker or BitLocker to go from the Control Panel 1. Open the Control Panel to System and SecurityBitLocker Drive Encryption. 2. For the C: drive, touch Turn On BitLocker. 3. The Setup screen displays, letting you know that it will turn on the TPM, then encrypt the drive. Touch Next. 4. Remove any CDs, DVDs or USB flashdrives and shutdown the system. The TPM will be initialized. When prompted, touch Shutdown. LG 20 HP Restricted September 2012

21 Lab Guide 5. Turn your system back on. Press F1 when prompted. A configuration change was requested to enable, activate, and allow the creation of an operator authentication value that permits the temporary deactivation of this computer s TPM (Trusted Platform Module). NOTE: This action will turn on the TPM. Press [F1] to enable, activate, and allow the creation of an operator authentic action value that permits the temporary deactivation of the TPM. Press [F2] to reject this change request and continue. 6. Log back into Windows when prompted. Activation continues. When TPM initialization is complete, touch Next. 7. The recovery key options display next. Note that you can save the recovery key to a USB flash drive, a file, or a printout. Touch Save the Recovery Key to a File and touch Next. 8. The system suggests that you save the file in c:\windows\system 32. Accept the default and touch Save. Note that your key cannot be saved to an encrypted drive. September 2012 HP Restricted LG 21

22 HP RP7 Retail System, HP RP7 9. Create a safe folder on the HP_Recovery(DL) drive and save the key to that folder. If you have a printer, touch Print the recovery key. 10. The Ready to Encrypt screen displays. Select Run BitLocker system check and touch Continue to begin encryption. 11. Touch Restart now when prompted, and Log back in when prompted. 12. Note the dialogue box notifying you that encryption is in progress. Touch the key icon on the task bar to display encryption progress. This process will take a while. 23 Lab Guide 13. Once encryption is complete, return to Control PanelSystem and SecurityBitLocker Drive Encryption. Note that you now have the option to: Turn Off BitLocker decrypts the drive Suspend Protection temporarily suspends encryption protection so that you can: Restart the computer for maintenance without requiring user input (for example, a PIN or startup key) Update the BIOS Install a hardware component that has optional read-only memory (option ROM) Upgrade critical early boot components without triggering BitLocker recovery. For example: Install a different version of the OS or another OS, which might change the master boot record (MBR) Repartition the disk, which might change the partition table Perform other system tasks that change the boot components validated by the TPM Upgrade the motherboard to replace or remove the TPM without triggering BitLocker recovery Turn off or clear the TPM without triggering BitLocker recovery Move a BitLocker-protected drive to another computer without triggering BitLocker recovery Manage BitLocker allows you to reprint or resave the key BitLocker to Go Insert a removable drive to use BitLocker To Go. Manage BitLocker to Go from Control PanelSystem and SecurityBitLocker Drive Encryption also. September 2012 HP Restricted LG 23

24 HP RP7 Retail System, HP RP7 AppLocker AppLocker is a new feature that advances the features and functionality of Software Restriction Policies. AppLocker contains new capabilities and extensions that allow the creation of rules to allow or deny applications from running based on unique identities of files and to specify which users or groups can run those applications. In this lab, you will configure AppLocker to block Remote Desktop Connections. 1. Open the Group Policy Editor Window. Go to Windows buttonall ProgramsAccessoriesRun. Type Gpedit.msc and touch OK. 2. Expand Computer ConfigurationWindows SettingsSecurity SettingsApplication Control Policies. 3. Expand AppLocker and select Executable Rules. LG 24 HP Restricted September 2012

25 Lab Guide 4. With Executable Rules highlighted, on the top menu touch ActionCreate New Rule. 5. The Wizard displays. At the Before You Begin page, touch Next. 6. The permissions page, select Deny. 7. We want Administrators to still have access, so deny only the users. Touch Select. 8. Touch AdvancedFind Now to display the users. Scroll down to Users and touch OKOK. Touch Next to continue. 9. Accept default of Publisher and touch Next. 10. Browse to c:\windows\system32\mspaint.exe and touch Open to select it. Touch Next. 11. Touch Next on the exceptions page. 12. Touch Create on the Name page. September 2012 HP Restricted LG 25

26 HP RP7 Retail System, HP RP7 13. AppLocker prompts you to create default rules. Touch Yes. 14. Close the Local Group Policy Editor window. Logon as a user and try to open Paint (Windows buttonall ProgramsAccessoriesPaint. 15. Close all open windows. LG 26 HP Restricted September 2012

27 Lab Guide Lab 5 HP Recovery Manager Always backup any personal files stored on the HP RP7 before performing a recovery. Using Startup Repair completely erases hard drive contents and reformats the hard drive. All files created and any software installed on the computer are permanently removed. That is why backing up any personal files is critical. 1. From the Windows start menu, right-click (touch and hold, then release) Computer. Touch Manage. 2. Touch Disk Management. 3. Verify that is a Windows OS partition and an HP Recovery partition in the disk contents. You can use the data stored on these partitions to recover the system. NOTE: If the Windows partition and the HP Recovery partition are not listed, the operating system must be recovered using the Windows 7 operating system DVD and the Driver Recovery disk. 4. If the Windows partition and the HP Recovery partition are listed, restart the computer, and then press F11 before the Windows operating system loads. 5. Touch Next to continue. 6. Follow the on screen instructions to complete the recovery. When reformatting is complete, the recovery process restores the operating system, as well as the drivers, software, and utilities from the backup used for recovery.
