1 Introduction to BS 7671 E-learning Guide Welcome to the SELECT E-learning package on BS This course has been created to help you prepare for your day-training course on BS Completion of this course is a compulsory element in the following programmes; SQA Customised Award in Requirements for Electrical Installations to BS 7671 SQA Customised Award in Initial Verification of Electrical Installation to BS 7671 This course is an optional element in the SQA Customised Award in Inspection & Testing of Electrical Installations to BS 7671 (Including Periodic Inspection & Testing). While this course is not compulsory it does provide a good refresher of BS 7671 basics. What you need: Materials: IET Requirements for Electrical Installations to BS 7671: 2008 (2015) (Yellow Version) Software: The online course is accessed through the internet so you need access to the World Wide Web. The soft-ware requirements are; Software Make sure you follow the guidance on updating module status and logging out. This is essential if you want your work to be saved Operating system: Microsoft Windows XP SP3 or later (32-bit or 64-bit), Windows 2003, Windows Vista (32-bit or 64-bit), Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit), or Windows 8 (32-bit or 64-bit).NET Runtime:.NET 2.0 or later (gets installed if not present) Adobe Flash Player: Adobe Flash Player 10 or later ( You can download anything you don t have for free.

2 Getting Started SELECT will register you for the course. Your log-in details will have been sent in an automated and will also be in the the course administrator sent with this online guide. Step1 Enter the following web link into your web browser address bar: Step 2 Enter your username and password in the boxes provided then click login. See screen shot below.

3 Step 3 Once you login you will be presented with the welcome screen. See screen shot below. To access a course click on the visit launch page button. This will take you to the page below, you can see all seven modules. Modules do not need to be completed in order. Although this may well be the easiest approach, work in whatever way suits you. The modules are subject related as a result the modules do vary in length. Pick which module you would like to start with and just click begin.

4 When you complete a module At the end of each module you must update the module status so a record of what you have achieved so far is kept. Moving on to the next Module When you update the module status you are taken to the page below. You will be able to see how many modules you have completed and track progress. Modules - what to expect Each module has some information slides. The information slides are followed by an Assessment based in information in the module. Answers will be found in the Unit or in your Regulation book.

5 Information Slides: Some slides are for information only. Not all visible information appears on the front page. In the example above you click here to see the IP Code Table. Assessment The online course is assessed. All of the assessment for this module is completed online. The Assessment questions are placed at the end of each module. The pass mark is set at 80%. Do not worry if you do not get 80% on your first attempt. Your answers will be marked instantly and you will get instant feedback. If you fail 1 st time, you can review the module if needed and have another go. There is no limit to how many times you can complete a module. When you passed the module, you will be able to review the module and get feedback on your answers. We have three different types of assessment questions built into this module; Drag & Drop Questions These exercises involve matching the items in the left with their partners on the right. Use your mouse to pick the correct response in the RHS column and move it to the correct place on the LHS. It will automatically stick when you release the mouse.

6 True/ False Questions - Only have one correct answer. Highlight the correct answer and hit submit. Multiple Choice Questions - These may have one or more answer, so read the questions carefully. Logging-out: In order to ensure that the work you have done during an E-learning session is stored, it is important that you follow the logging out process. Step 1 To log out click on the red cross at the top RHS of the screen. This will take you to the screen below. Step 2 Click the button that says please click to update module status. This will store your history so you do not have to repeat modules. Then log out as normal. When you log back in you will have the option of starting where you left off or starting at the beginning again. Make sure you choose the option to log-in where you left off if you do not want to repeat what you have done already.
