1 YCDSB Password Self-Service August 2016 Introduction: The York Catholic District School Board is implementing a computer password selfservice program. This program will allow users to: Reset their computer logon password at any time, or in the event that they forget their password. Users will no longer be required to contact the computer call centre if they forget their password. Note: As in the past, you will continue to be requested to change your computer logon password every 180 days. 2 How to register for the password registration program: Important: For security reasons All York Catholic District School Board Office and Teaching staff have been auto registered for the password self-services. You have been enrolled with the address we have on file for your user account. How to reset your password: My Portal: You may reset your password in either of the following two (2) ways, in the event you forgot your password, or would like to reset it for security reasons: You may reset your password anytime, anywhere using any device by accessing the My Portal website at and clicking on Forgot your password? link or directly going to passwordreset.ycdsb.ca 1. Go to passwordreset.ycdsb.ca in a web browser. Result: The Password Self Services Portal window will be displayed. Type your User Name in the text box, and Click the Next button. 3 2. Result: The Verity Your Identity: Verification window will be displayed. 4 Login to your YCDSB.CA account to get the required Security 3. Code. Get the required Security Code from within the Warning: The PIN is only useful within the time-limited context of one session with the Password Self-Services Portal Website. 4. Enter the Security Code from the , and Click the Next button. York Catholic District School Board 4

5 5. Result: The Password Reset: Choose Your New Password window will be displayed. Type a new password in the New password: text box, re-type the new password in the Confirm new password: text box, and Click the Next button. Note: Your new password: must be at least eight (8) characters, is case sensitive, and must meet the Password Do s & Don ts as outlined in Appendix A below. York Catholic District School Board 5

6 6. Result: You will be informed that you have successfully reset your password. You re now able to connect to the system with your new password. 7. This password change DOES affect the following computer programs: Computer Network Login School Connect Login Maplewood Login My Portal Login Portal for Education Tools VPN account This password change DOES NOT affect the following computer programs: FirstClass TSSI PD Place Google Apps for Education and Gmail York Catholic District School Board 6

7 Computer Logon Screen: Or you may reset your password from the computer logon screen on any board computer by following the steps below: 1. Log onto your computer. Result: The Logon window will be displayed. 2. Instructions are provided in this step for: Windows XP Office Staff Windows XP Teaching Staff Windows 7 Office Staff Windows 7 Teaching staff If You are an Office Staff and have a Windows XP logon (figure below) Windows XP Office Staff Logon Window: Then Type your User Name in the User name: text box, and Click the Reset button. You are a Teaching Staff and have a Windows XP logon (figure below) Windows XP Teaching Staff Logon Window: Type your User Name in the User name: text box, and Click the Reset button. 8 If You are an Office Staff and have a Windows 7 logon (figure below) Windows 7 Office Staff Logon Window: Then Click the Forgot your password? link. You are a Teaching Staff and have a Windows 7 logon (figure below) Windows 7 Teaching Staff Logon Window: Click the Forgot your password? link. 3. 9 Appendix A PASSWORD DO S & DONT S PASSWORD DO S: Passwords must contain characters from three (3) of the following five (5) categories: Uppercase characters (A through Z) Lowercase characters (a through z) Base 10 digits (0 through 9) Non alphanumeric characters: ~!@#$%^&*_-+=` \(){}[]:;"'<>,.?/ Any Unicode character that is categorized as an alphabetic character but is not uppercase or lowercase. PASSWORD DON TS: Any part of the users first or last name. Password History can t use any of the last 4 password you set.
