2 INSTR. 1.0 Scope This procedure applies only to the field installation and maintenance of software for the NYAB EP-60 locomotive (TCC, IDM, OIU, TPS, EBC, and PSN), End of Train (CEOT and AED), and Trainline Integrity and Locomotive Test (TILT) equipment. This procedure does not apply to the production aspects of loading software nor does it apply to any aspect of the EP-60 car equipment software. 2.0 Purpose The purpose of this document is to provide the necessary instructions for field service personnel to perform the following activities: Verifying and Updating application software. Configuring Locomotive IDM modules. Retrieving and clearing the TCC s log files. Page 2 of 12

5 INSTR EPLPTUSW Software CD (NYAB P/N ) The EPLPTUSW software CD contains an installation package that will install the following software: EPLPTU PC Application Software (NYAB P/N EPLPTUSW) PC application for updating locomotive software, configuring locomotive IDM parameters, and downloading and clearing TCC log files. Echelon Open LDV Network Interface Software Network interface drivers and PC application for using and configuring the Echelon USB Network Interface hardware, which is also available for download from the Echelon Website ( Microsoft.NET Framework Version 1.1 Microsoft runtime environment software for running.net applications, which is also available from the Microsoft Website at the following link: d1e7cf3a3&displaylang=en Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 or later Microsoft support software required for installing and using the.net Framework software, which is available for download directly from the Microsoft Website at EP-60 Application Software Releases All EP-60 released software packages may be obtained from NYAB engineering as selfextracting zip files. In general, the distributed zip files are configured to automatically extract out to a release-specific subdirectory under C:\ep-60\software releases. Page 5 of 12

6 INSTR. 5.0 Instructions for Locomotive Devices 5.1 Locomotive Setup 1. Ensure that the TCC is not setup as a Lead HEU. 2. Isolate the locomotive from the trainline network by disconnecting the ITC inter-car connector(s) between the locomotive and the rest of the train. 5.2 EPLPTU Application Startup 1. Double click the EPLPTU icon and follow the on-screen instructions to verify USB network and COM port connections. If errors occur during the connection process, select Help Setup from the main window menu to review the PC to TCC connection diagram, or select Help Help for more detailed instructions. 2. If the EPLPTU software is unable to establish a COM port connection, the EPLPTU software will be unable to update the SBC and SSF software, and the Download TCC Logs selection will be disabled. If this occurs, the TCC System Support Files may need to be updated by using the TCC Utility per the TCC Utility Instructions in section 7.0 and then repeat the EPLPTU Application Instructions for locomotive setup and startup above. 3. If the EPLPTU software is unable to initialize the USB network interface, the Configure LOCO ID, and Verify and Update Software selections will be disabled. 5.3 EPLPTU Main Menu Options 1. File: Exit: exits the application without the option to connect to another locomotive. 2. Options: Get TCC Date/Time: Retrieves the date and time from the TCC. Set TCC Date/Time: Allows user to set the data and time on the TCC. Page 6 of 12

7 INSTR. 3. Language: Allows user to change the language displayed by the EPLPTU. 4. Help: About: Displays EPLPTU software version and contact information. Setup: Displays EPLPTU to TCC equipment setup diagram. Help: Displays EPLPTU troubleshooting information. 5.4 Software Component Update 1. To update EP-60 locomotive software components, select Verify and Update Software from the EPLPTU software main window. The EPLPTU software will query the network for all available devices, and will display a dialog box as to the success or failure of the query when finished. Select OK to continue. 2. If any devices are found, the EPLPTU software will display a dropdown selection of devices to choose from. Select the device to update from the dropdown and then press Accept to view detailed information on the device. Select Done to go back to the main window. 3. The EPLPTU software will display a dialog box containing the program ID, neuron ID, and software version for each component of the selected device. The Program ID column contains the software component identifier (e.g. IDM, SBC). The Neuron ID column contains the Neuron node identifier (this column will be blank for the SBC and SSF), and the Version column contains the component software version ( *** will be displayed if the version information is unknown). Select Update software to continue, or select Done to go back to the Select Device dialog. If Update software is selected, the EPLPTU software will display a browse for folder dialog box, which will automatically go to the EP-60 software releases directory per section 4.3 above. 4. Select the correct EP-60 application software part number folder for the selected device (e.g. 1605TCCSW, 1493OIUSW...etc), then select the correct software release folder Page 7 of 12

8 INSTR. (e.g. 01, 02...etc). Note: The software component version(s) for the selected release will be displayed, but do not need to be selected. Press OK once the correct software release has been selected. If the correct release is not available for selection, contact NYAB for the latest software. 5. After selecting the correct software release for updating and pressing OK, the EPLPTU software will display the selected device and the software folder path. Select Update software to continue, or select Cancel to go back to the folder selection dialog. 6. Once Update software has been selected, the EPLPTU software will display the software components that are to be updated. Select OK to proceed with the software update, or select Cancel to go back to the Select Device dialog. ***NOTE: This is the last chance to cancel the software update operation. Once started, the software update cannot be interrupted. 7. When the software update is finished, the EPLPTU software will display the result of the software update to the user. If successful (i.e., prompt indicates, Software update complete ), click OK and then select Device Info to verify the component software version information is correct. The EPLPTU software will query the device and display the component details as in step 3 above. Otherwise, select Done to go back to the Select Device dialog. If the software update was unsuccessful, the EPLPTU software will display an error message (e.g., Software update finished with error(s) ). Click OK and then Device Info to display the software component information again. If the version information is still incorrect, select Update software and repeat the software update steps. 5.5 Verification of Software Versions To verify a software component s version, follow the instructions in section 5.4 Software Component Update steps 1 3 to query for and display device information. Note: To verify software versions on the locomotive display, the PTU cable must be disconnected from the TCC and input power to the TCC must be cycled. Page 8 of 12

9 INSTR. 5.6 Locomotive ID Parameter Configuration 1. To verify and/or configure the locomotive ID parameters, select Configure LOCO ID from the main window. If multiple or zero IDMs are found, the EPLPTU software will display an error message and the operation will be halted. 2. If the query is successful and the locomotive road number is other than the programmed default, the EPLPTU software will display the locomotive road number. If this is correct, select Accept to continue and the ELPTU software will verify the ID parameters are correct. Select Reject to enter a new road number. 3. If the default road number (LOCO*******) is detected by the EPLPTU software from the locomotive ID, or if Reject is selected from step 2, the Locomotive owner and Locomotive type will be displayed or a selection dialog will be displayed if there are multiple owners and/or locomotive types available in the locomotive configuration database. If prompted, select the appropriate owner and locomotive type, otherwise press Accept if correct or Cancel if incorrect. If the locomotive owner and/or locomotive type are/is incorrect and/or the correct selection is not available, the TCC software may need to be updated per section 5.4 of this instruction. 4. After the locomotive owner and locomotive type is accepted, enter the new road number in the appropriate format when prompted. (Note: a maximum of 10 characters/numbers is allowed). Select Accept to update the locomotive IDM s configuration parameters. The EPLPTU software will automatically update the Locomotive IDM parameters and display a success or failure message when finished. Note: The actual parameters verified and/or updated are logged in the file config.csv located under the logs folder within the EPLPTU program directory and can be viewed with a text editor or Microsoft Excel. 10 INSTR. 5.7 TCC Log File Operations 1. To download, view, or delete log files on the TCC, select Download TCC Logs from the main window. The EPLPTU software will query the locomotive for a road number. The EPLPTU software will display a prompt to Continue or Cancel if the locomotive ID parameters have not been configured. 2. The EPLPTU software will display a dialog with a list of log files to choose from, and the option to download current, archived, or both file types. The user may select one, several, or all files displayed to download. Select OK to continue. 3. The EPLPTU software will attempt to download all files selected in step 2 from the TCC. If the selected files do not download, verify equipment setup. 4. Once the TCC log files are downloaded, the EPLPTU software will prompt the user to choose a location on the PC to save the files. By default, all TCC log files are saved in a sub-folder named after the road number of the locomotive under EPLPTU\TCC Logs in the public documents folder of the PC, which is typically one of the following: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\ on Windows XP C:\Users\Public\Documents\ on Windows 7 If the locomotive parameters have not been configured, the TCC log files will be saved to a default folder of LOCOxxxxxxx. The user may also select a different directory to save the log files to. A date/time stamp will be added to the destination folder to indicate when the TCC log files were downloaded to the PC. 5. Once the logs are saved, the EPLPTU software will display the TCC Logs Menu. Select View TCC logs to view the log files in NotePad. Select Clear TCC logs to clear the log files from the TCC. ***NOTE This clears the log files on the TCC, not the ones downloaded to the PC. Select Done to return to the main window. Page 10 of 12

11 INSTR. 6.0 Instructions for Trainline Devices External to the Locomotive 6.1 Locomotive Setup 1. Isolate the locomotive from the trainline network by disconnecting the ITC inter-car connector(s) between the locomotive and the rest of the train. 2. Connect the NYAB device (e.g., CEOT, AED, TILT) directly to one end of the locomotive and connect the termination cable on the other end of the locomotive. 3. Turn trainline power on manually via the Aux connector on the locomotive TPS. ***NOTE: THIS STEP MUST BE DONE TO AVOID POSSIBLE DAMAGE TO DEVICE DURING SOFTWARE LOADING 6.2 EPLPTU Application Startup 1. Double click the EPLPTU icon and follow the instructions below (i.e., ignore the onscreen instructions). 2. Connect the TCC to the PC s USB or PCMCIA port to verify Lon network connection. Do not connect to the PC s RS-232 serial or USB to RS-232 serial adapter and do not cycle TCC power. Select Continue. 3. When prompted that the EPLPTU software is unable to establish a COM port connection, select Cancel. The EPLPTU software will be unable to update the SBC and SSF software, and the Download TCC Logs selection will be disabled. 6.3 Software Component Update Follow the instructions in section 5.4 above to update the trainline device software Page 11 of 12
