WORKSHOP 20 CREATING PCL FUNCTIONS WS20-1

WS20-2

Problem Desription This exerise involves reating two PCL funtions that an be used to easily hange the view of a model. The PCL funtions are reated by reording session files using orresponding previously reated named views. Using the session files PCL funtion files are easily reated. The PCL funtions are ompiled in MSC.Patran. The views an be obtained by using the ompiled PCL funtions. WS20-3

Suggested Exerise Steps 1. Create a new database. 2. Import the parasolid.xmt file. 3. Create two views of the model. 4. Reord two session files, eah one reated while seleting a unique view of the model. 5. Copy the session files, and edit the opies to reate PCL funtion files with suffix.pl 6. Compile the PCL funtions into MSC.Patran, then use the funtions to go to the seleted view. 7. Compile the PCL funtions into the MSC.Patran library so that they an be used for different databases. WS20-4

Step 1. Create a database Create a new database and set the New Model Toleranes. a. Clik on the File New ion. b. Enter shield.db for the File Name and lik OK.. In the New Model Preferenes form, selet Based on Model under Tolerane. d. Set the Analysis Code and Analysis Type to MSC.Nastran and Strutural, respetively. e. Clik on OK. b e d WS20-5

Step 2. Import a Parasoid.xmt file a b Import the model via parasolid.xmt file. a. File : Import b. Change the Objet and Soure, to Model and Parasolid.xmt, respetively.. Find and selet the file shield_v11.xmt_txt. d. Clik on Apply. d WS20-6

Step 2. Import a Parasoid.xmt file (Cont.) Shown here is the imported model WS20-7

Step 3. Create Named Views b This next step involves reating two views for the model. Any two views an be used, but for simpliity, a general view will be used. a. Go to the Iso 3 view. b. Viewing : Named View Options. Clik on Create View d. Under Create New View enter v1. e. Clik Apply. The first view, v1, has been reated. Patran will automatially return this view whenever it is seleted under Selet Named View in the Named View Options form. Test out the view by hanging it to any other view and then returning to the form and seleting v1. WS20-8

Step 3. Create Named Views (Cont.) Create the seond view, v2, by zooming in on the model. a. Zoom in on the model as shown. b. Viewing : Named View Options. Clik on Create View d. Under Create New View enter v2. e. Clik Apply. b a Both views have been reated. Test out the views simply by hanging the urrent view(rotating, hanging views, zooming in, et.) and liking on either v1 or v2. WS20-9 d e

Step 4. Reord Session Files a f Reord the first of two session files. a. File : Session / Reord b. Enter key1 for the File Name.. Clik on Apply. d. Viewing : Named View Options... e. Under Selet Named View selet v1. f. File : Session / Reord g. Clik on Stop. h. Clik on Canel. b h e WS20-10 g

Step 4. Reord Session Files (Cont.) a f Create the seond session file using the same approah. a. File : Session / Reord b. Enter key2 for File Name.. Clik on Apply. d. Viewing : Named View Options e. Selet v2 under Selet Named View. f. File : Session / Reord g. Clik on Stop. h. Clik on Canel. b h e WS20-11 g

Step 5. Edit the session files b d a To edit the session files lose the database. a. File : Quit. b. Find the diretory with the database and session files (e.g. use Explorer).. Copy the session files key1.ses and key2.ses. d. Rename eah opy file to key1.pl and key2.pl, respetively. WS20-12

Step 5. Edit the session files (Cont.) Open the.pl files and edit eah one as follows. a. Open key1.pl with a text editor program suh as Notepad or Wordpad. b. Delete the lines that begin with: $# (In this ase, there are only 2 suh lines).. BEFORE the line ga_viewport_view_set( default_viewport, v1 ) enter FUNCTION v1(). d. AFTER the last line enter END FUNCTION. e. File / Save. f. Open the seond file, key2.pl, and repeat steps a-e for key2.pl, entering FUNCTION v2() instead of FUNCTION v1(). b d WS20-13

Step 6. Compile the PCL Funtions into Patran Open the previously reated database, shield.db, and ompile the PCL funtions. a. Open Patran. b. Clik on the File Open ion.. Selet shield.db. d. Clik on OK. e. In the Patran ommand window enter!!input key1.pl then lik Enter f. Then enter!!input key2.pl then lik Enter. d e f WS20-14

Step 6. Compile the PCL Funtions into Patran (Cont.) The model will automatially hange to the two previously reated views. Test the ompiled funtions. a. Rotate the model to any arbitrary view (manual or by using the view ions, as long as it is a different view from either v1 or v2). b. Enter v1() into ommand window (the model should return to the original v1 view).. Change the model view again. d. Enter v2() into the ommand window. a b d As long as this database is used the two ompiled PCL funtions, key1.plb and key2.plb, will be available. Copyright 2004 MSC.Software Corporation WS20-15

Step 7. Compile the PCL Funtions into the Patran Library If it is desired to use the two PCL funtions in a different database ompile them into a library, then aess the library via the p3epilog.pl file. a. In the ommand window enter the following :!!ompile key1.pl key and press Enter. Then,!!ompile key2.pl key and pres Enter. b. Quit Patran.. Using a text editor reate the file p3epilog.pl that ontains the following line!!library key.plb and save it into the same diretory that ontains the database and the orresponding session files. Copyright 2004 MSC.Software Corporation a WS20-16

Step 7. Compile the PCL Funtions into the Patran Library (Cont.) a Create a new database shield2.db, then reate the two views, v1 and v2. a. Selet File New. b. Speify shield2.db.. Clik OK. d. Create view v1 and v2 under Viewing e. Enter either v1() or v2() into the ommand window, and the views should hange aordingly. f. Close the file and quit MSC.Patran. b Instead of typing v1() or v2() in the ommand line it is possible to envoke the PCL ommands using either key maps or toolbar ions.
