1 TLP 350V Setup Guide The Extron TouhLink 3.5 inh able ubby TLP 350V provide users with aess to AV onnetivity using onvenient pullout ables. It also provides simple and versatile onfiguration and ontrol for a range of IP Link ontrol systems. With a required IP Link ontroller, the touhpanel and 10 ustomizable buttons provide ontrol of an AV system and room environment. On-sreen graphi and text objets allow users to ativate or regulate system ontrol funtions. The TLP 350V ommuniates with the onfigurable IP Link ontroller via an Ethernet onnetion. Two BN onnetors allow the sreen to be used to preview omposite video or S-video. N The RJ-45 output on the rear panel of the TLP 350V must be onneted to a network swith, hub, or router that is onneted to an Ethernet LAN or the Internet. An Extron IP Link ontroller must also be onneted to the same network. Suggested models inlude: IPL T S series IPL T R 48 IPL 250 IPL T SFI 244 This guide provides basi instrutions for an experiened installer to mount and perform initial onfiguration on the TLP 350V. When possible in the following pages, line drawings are used to larify steps disussed in the text. Where appropriate, images have one or more numbers orresponding to a speifi step desribed. Visit the TouhLink panel site at for assistane in the setup and operation of the TLP 350V, or to enroll in online training. For additional assistane with the touhlink panels, all Installation Overview Install and set up the TLP 350V enlosure as follows: Verify the surfae utout dimensions of the TLP 350V "Step 1 Obtain utout dimensions" on page 2. To obtain the most reent utout dimensions, visit the Extron Web site at If planning to use a routing template that has not been prepared, prepare the template. Refer to the TLP 350V User s Manual, available on the inluded DVD or the Extron Web site, ut a hole in the surfae where the enlosure will be installed. See "Step 2 ut the surfae" on page 2. Use one of the following as a guide: The optional metal routing template The ut-out dimensions, programmed into a N wood router A paper surfae ut-out template Run all ables neessary to support the A onnetor, the ables stored in the ubby, and all planned AAP onnetors. See "Step 3 Run all ables" on page 3. Leave enough slak in the ables to onnet or route them before the ubby is installed in the table. Install the power module. If the loation requires eletrial onduit, install an Extron flexible onduit kit. Refer to the Flexible onduit Kit Installation Instrutions, Extron part # available at See "Step 4 Install power module" on page 3. Install ables into the able pass-through AAPs and loosely fasten to the AAP Shelf. If appliable, install passive AAPs and loosely fasten to the AAP shelf. onnet ables to the rear onnetors. 2 TLP 350V Setup Guide, ontinued Step 1 Obtain utout dimensions Determine the optimum loation for the TLP 350V keeping in mind the size of the enlosure that will be below the table and also the ease of operation for a user. utout dimensions are available as a router guide, printed dimensions and a utout template. If using the router guide, follow the instrutions inluded with it. Printed dimensions are available in the Appendix of the TLP 350V User's Manual available on the inluded DVD or at W W Make ertain the orret utout dimensions are being used before proeeding to the next step. Extron is not responsible for improperly positioned able ubby models. Wear safety glasses when operating power equipment. Failure to omply an result in eye injury. Double-hek before you ut: If using a routing template, be ertain the orret template for the TLP 350V is being used. If using a N router, be ertain the orret dimensions for the TLP 350V are entered. If using a reiproating saw or jigsaw, be ertain the orret paper template for the TLP 350V is being used. Be ertain the ut is laid out in exatly the desired loation. Be ertain the ut is laid out so the onnetor aess side is oriented as desired. Step 2 ut the surfae After verifying and heking dimensions, ut a hole in the surfae of the furniture where the enlosure will be installed. See "Preparing the Table" in hapter 2 of the TLP 350V User s Manual. The opening in the table for the able ubby should be ut only by liensed and bonded raftspeople. Exerise are to prevent sarring or damaging the furniture. The surfaes of the able ubby enlosure have srews and other protruding hardware that ould damage fine furniture. Do not rest the enlosure on unproteted furniture. Ensure the table surfae is at least 3/8 inh (0.375 in) (0.95 m) thik. There are three methods for utting the hole in the table: Hand router, N wood utter, and reiproating saw or jigsaw A hand router using the routing template or a N wood router are the most aurate, preferred, and reommended methods for preparing the table for the TLP 350V. REOMMENDED A hand router and the Extron TLP 350V routing template, part # Refer to the Routing Template User s Manual, available on the Extron Web site, to prepare the template and use the template to ut the hole. N The metal router guide is reusable. Do not disard this router guide when the installation is omplete. REOMMENDED A N wood router and the exat ut-out dimensions: /-0.02 in W x /-0.02 in D ( /-0.05 m W x /-0.05 m D) N The underlined dimension is the unit s onnetor or AAP aess side. 3 Step 3 Run all ables Run all ables neessary to support the A onnetor, the ables stored in the ubby, and all planned AAP onnetors. Leave enough slak in the ables to onnet or route them before the ubby is installed in the table. Leave enough spae under the enlosure for the external power supply and onnetion of omputer and AV ables and the network onnetion of the TLP 350V. Step 4 Install power module Install the inluded power module before installing other AAPs. The power module takes up two or three AAP spaes and must be installed in the loation furthest to the left of the enlosure. (See illustration.) Seure the power module into position with #4-40 Phillips head srews. Install the power module on the left side. Push module through bottom of enlosure. Seure in plae with srews. Step 5 AAP assembly Install all desired ables into the able pass through AAPs and install the AAPs into the able ubby. The simplest way to install the ables and AAPs is to populate the AAP brakets outside the ubby and then install the populated AAP shelf assembly into the ubby. Install ables in the pass-through holes: OMPUTER AUDIO T Leaving the #4-40 nuts finger tight will make it easier to plae the assembly into the enlosure. 3

4 VOLUME P DVD TLP 350V Setup Guide, ontinued Step 6 Install the AAP assembly 1. From the underside of the able ubby, gently push the AAP shelf assembly into position at the desired elevation. T Ensure there is enough spae above the AAP assembly for the lid to lose ompletely without ables or onnetors ontating the touhpanel. 2. Seure the AAP shelf assembly into position with the provided Phillips head srews. 3. Tighten the nuts that seure the AAPs to the shelf brakets. 2 Philips Head Srews (seures AAP Shelf Assembly) AUDIO 1 Push assembly through bottom of enlosure. OMPUTER Step 7 Mount the enlosure Mount the able ubby in the table. W The flanged edges of the trim ring are sharp. Exerise aution when the ubby is not installed in a table to prevent personal injury. The trim ring edges are soft and an easily be niked or bent. Exerise aution when handling and mounting the enlosure. 1. Remove the edge grommet proteting the orners of the trim ring and the plasti film on the finished surfaes. 3 Tighten down AAP Nuts Do not use isopropyl alohol or other solvents to lean the able ubby. If neessary, remove the enlosure and use a file or rasp to enlarge or smooth edges of the opening. 3. Install the table lamps onto the pins on the side of the enlosure. 4. The TLP 350V must be onneted to the same network environment as the assigned IP Link ontroller. LD touhsreen The baklit LD sreen has a resolution of 320 x 240, with touh overlay. Speaker Supports aural feedbak of button or panel presses. onfigurable Side buttons 10 dediated, ustomizable funtion buttons provide quik aess to key funtions. A set of replaement buttons is inluded with the TLP 350V. Individual buttons with additional labels are available on the Extron Web site. See the TLP 350V User's Manual for instrutions on hanging the buttons. Menu Button (under faeplate) A menu button is used to adjust system and display preferenes. Reset Button (under faeplate) A reset button is used to ativate any of the predefined fator reset modes, inluding returning the panel to fatory defaults. Reset LED Indiator (under faeplate) Green LED that flashes to indiate the various reset modes. Illumination LEDs A small blok of LEDs illuminate the able ubby inner AAP plates. N The menu and reset buttons are aessible through small holes without removing the faeplate. A paperlip may be used to press the buttons. 6

7 onfiguring the TLP 350V (Initial Setup) Prior to using the TLP 350V, it is essential to onfigure it, using the on-sreen menus. The setup menu and alibration sreen are aessed using the front panel menu button (e). Press the menu button one to enter the Main setup menu and twie to aess the alibration sreen. There are five sreens seleted by pressing the appropriate button at the left and upper right side of the sreen. There is also an Exit button at the bottom right orner of the sreen for leaving the setup menus. The setup menu pages adjust the following features. For additional details, see the User's Manual. Main (shown at right) Adjusts the Sleep timer, Baklight, Auto Baklight, and LED Baklight funtions. Volume Adjusts the Master, lik, and Sounds volume settings. Time Sets the orret time and date. Network (IP) Sets the IP address, the subnet mask, and enables or disables Dynami Host onfiguration Protool. Video provides a small video preview window and the ontrols to set up the video ontrast, olor, brightness, and tint. Main Vol Time IP Sleep timer: Se On Down Down Auto Baklight Up Baklight: 073% Up LED Baklight On Vid Exit Enter alibration Menu If the touhsreen panel does not reat properly to a finger touh, it may require alibration. To aess the touhpanel alibration sreen: 1. From the main setup sreen (shown above), press the reessed menu button (e) one to aess the alibration menu. From any other sreen, press the reessed menu button twie (within one seond) to aess the alibration menu. The sreen shown on the right appears. 2. Press and hold on the green box until the olor reverts to grey with a white border and a seond box is highlighted. 3. Move to the newly highlighted box and repeat step Repeat until all four boxes have been pressed and are gray. One all four boxes have been alibrated the sreen automatially returns to the Main menu (see above). + Press and Hold Highlighted Box Until olor hanges Reset Modes The TLP 350V has four reset modes that an be initiated by pressing the Reset button (Front Panel (f)): Fatory Firmware Mode: Hold the Reset button while applying power to reset the unit bak to the firmware shipped with the unit. Run/Stop Events Mode: Hold the Reset button until the reset LED (g) blinks one (~3 se.), then release and within 1 seond, press Reset momentarily (<1 se.). This mode toggles events either On or Off. Reset All IP Settings Mode: Hold the Reset button until the reset LED blinks twie (~6 se.), then release and within 1 seond, press Reset momentarily (<1 se). This mode resets the IP address, subnet, gateway, port mapping, and DHP settings bak to fatory defaults. The reset LED blinks 4 times in quik suession, onfirming the reset and turning events off. Reset Fatory Defaults Mode: Hold the Reset button until the reset LED blinks 3 times (~9 se.), then release and within 1 seond press Reset momentarily (<1 se). This mode auses a omplete reset to fatory defaults (exept firmware). 7

8 TLP 350V Setup Guide, ontinued Designing the TLP 350V Interfae with GUI onfigurator Install the GUI onfigurator software on a P and use it to design the interfae that will appear on the TLP 350V sreen. N The Extron GUI onfigurator software is on the disk inluded with the TouhLink Panel and may also be downloaded (free of harge) from the Extron Web site ( For information about downloading GUI onfigurator, onsult the TLP 350V User's Manual, also available from the Extron Web site ( Open the program by liking on the desktop ion or by using Windows Explorer to navigate to the orret file on your omputer. When the program opens (see the sreen at right), there is an option to open an existing projet, open an existing template, or start a new projet to design a ompletely new interfae. N onsult the GUI onfigurator Help File for information about using GUI onfigurator. To open the help file, lik on the Help menu and selet ontents or press the F1 button on your keyboard. onfiguring the TLP 350V Interfae with Global onfigurator 3 Install the Global onfigurator 3 software on a P and use it to assign funtions to the sreen elements reated with GUI onfigurator. N The Extron Global onfigurator 3 software is on the disk inluded with the TouhLink Panel and may also be downloaded (free of harge) from the Extron Web site ( For information about downloading Global onfigurator 3, onsult the TLP 350V User's Manual. Open the program by liking on the desktop ion or by using Windows Explorer to navigate to the orret file on your omputer. When the program opens (see the sreen at right), follow the on sreen instrutions to onfigure the IP address of the units. Open the projet reated with GUI onfigurator 3 and assign funtions to the buttons and sreen graphis and text. When the funtions have been assigned to all sreen objets, build the projet and upload it to the IP Link unit.
