1 OvidSP Quik Referene Card Searh in any of several dynami modes, ombine results, apply limits, use improved researh tools, develop strategies, save searhes, set automati alerts and RSS feeds, share results... OvidSP makes it all easy. Selet Resoures One Ovid validates your aess, hoose resoures to searh. Often, your session begins on the OvidSP Main Searh Page. Main Searh Page OvidSP provides easy aess to the information you want and assistane throughout the interfae. a. Additional Resoures: searh another database, or browse journals and books. b. Online Assistane: submit questions to an on-site expert, look up information in Ovid s Knowledge Base, browse information in a ontext-sensitive help system.. Saved Searhes/Alerts: run, edit, or develop previously saved searh strategies and AutoAlerts. b a 4 To searh, follow these steps.. Selet a preferred searh mode (Basi Searh shown).. Type a subjet, phrase, topi, or question.. OPTIONAL: Apply database limits. 4. Clik the Searh button.

Basi Searh (default searh mode) Use natural language in any Ovid resoure books, journals, databases to searh topis and ask questions. You do not need to know speial syntax. If a word is misspelled, OvidSP will display a warning. Apply limits from the Main Searh Page or from the Limit a Searh Page. Find Citation Quikly loate the itation of a speifi journal artile. Type information you know into the text boxes, then lik the Searh button. Find Citation is not available for Books@Ovid. Use the following trunation and wildards to find variations of terms. o * or $ or : to searh for suffix variations, suh as disease$ to find disease, diseases, or diseased. o Use the positional operator, ADJn, to retrieve reords that ontain your terms (in any order) within a speified number (n) of words of eah other, suh as ("opinion" adj "hypertension") to find opinion and hypertension within words of eah other. Searh Tools Find all database tools in one plae. Tools vary from database to database. To run a subjet searh, follow these steps.. Type a term into the text box.. Selet a tool.. Clik the Searh button. OvidSP shows the term within a display of the seleted tool.

3 OvidSP Quik Referene Card page Searh Fields Create, browse, and searh the indexed fields of any database. a b Indiates fields that are not indexed but an be searhed, not displayed or browsed. To learn more about fields in the display, lik the hyperlinked field name. To searh fields, follow these steps.. Type a term into the text box.. Selet one or more fields.. Clik one of three funtional options. a. Display Indexes: reates and displays indexes from field seletions. From an index display, run a searh only in those fields. b. Searh: runs a searh through seleted fields.. Clear seletions: anels field seletions. Syntax Run syntax searhes based on your site s legay platform: Ovid Web Gateway (shown) or SilverPlatter WebSPIRS. To run a syntax-based searh, follow these steps.. Selet a searh type (Keyword searh shown here).. Type a term into the text box.. OPTIONAL: Apply a limit. 4. Clik the Searh button. To apply a limit from the ommand line, type the syntax, suh as: limit to yr=

4 page 4 OvidSP Quik Referene Card Searh History OvidSP posts and traks searh results sets in a Searh History window so that you an: o ombine them using AND, OR, or NOT. o delete them (if neessary). o save them as a searh strategy for later development. o save as an AutoAlert, a urrent awareness searh. o set an RSS feed to send updated searh strategies. To see the reords of a results set in the Searh Results Display, lik a Display button. Searh Results Display Eah results sreen has three omponents. a. Searh Aid: shows terms used to gain results for the most reent searh statement and highlights them in the reord titles display. b. Reord Titles Display: lists itations of reords from a results set in your searh history.. Results Manager: manages reords seleted for output: display, print, , save, or diret export. a b Searh Aid OvidSP s Searh Aid shows the terms used for your searh to reate the set in the reord titles display. Use the searh aid to narrow or broaden your searh. o Narrow searh: refine results by subjet, author, or journal. o Broaden searh: expand results to inlude related terms. The Searh Aid quikly ompiles the most relevant reords from the Reord Titles Display.

5 OvidSP Quik Referene Card page 5 Reord Titles Display By default, OvidSP displays reords from the last searh. a b a. Navigate: browse quikly among reords in a large set or navigate page by page. To display titles from a different set in the searh history, lik the reent searhes option. b. Link to More Information: see additional information, available full text, and formats.. Find Similar and Citing Reords: display reords that are similar to or ite a speifi reord. Display, print, , or save any reord(s) in the titles display by using OvidSP s output tool, the Results Manager. Results Manager OvidSP provides the Results Manager for all reord output needs. a. Selet output option: display, print, , save, or export reords. b. Selet reords: selet a whole page of reords, a range of reords, or hek boxes of individual reords in the display for output.. Choose fields: apply only pertinent field information to reord output. The Results Manager outputs up to 00 reords at a time. To hange this number, ontat Ovid Customer Support. The omplete referene option inludes all database-speifi fields. d. Sort reords: selet order options for reord output based upon primary and seondary fields of interest.
