Updates for the printer software may e availale on the Lexmark We site at What is loal printing? Loal printing is printing to a loally attahed printer (a printer that is onneted diretly to your omputer with a USB ale). When setting up this type of printer, you should install the printer software efore onneting the USB ale. For more information, see the setup doumentation that ame with the printer. The Software and Doumentation CD an e used to install the neessary printer software on most Windows operating systems. Installing the printer using the Software and Doumentation CD Using the Software and Doumentation CD, you an install printer software for the following operating systems: Windows 7 Windows Vista and Windows Vista x64 Edition Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 Edition Windows XP and Windows XP x64 Edition Ma OS X Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS 4 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS 5 opensuse Linux 11.4, opensuse Linux 11.3 and opensuse Linux 11.2 SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 and SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Deian GNU/Linux 5.0 Uuntu 10.10, Uuntu 10.04, Uuntu 9.10, and Uuntu 9.04 Linpus Linux Desktop 9.6 Red Flag Linux Desktop 6.0 Fedora 14, Fedora 13, and Fedora 14 1 Close all open appliations. 2 Insert the Software and Doumentation CD. If the install sreen does not appear after a minute, then launh the CD manually: a Clik or lik Start, and then lik Run. In the Start Searh or Run ox, type D:\setup.exe, where D is the letter of your CD or DVD drive. Press Enter, or lik OK. 3 Clik Install, and then follow the instrutions on the omputer sreen.

2 Page 2 of 7 Installing the printer using the Add Printer Wizard (Windows) Note: Installing the printer using the Add Printer Wizard is supported for Windows XP and later. 1 Close all open software programs. 2 Insert the Software and Doumentation CD. 3 Close the installation software. 4 Add the printer: a Clik, or lik Start and then lik Run. In the Start Searh or Run ox, type ontrol printers. Press Enter, or lik OK. d From the Printer Tasks area, lik Add a printer. 5 When prompted, selet to install a loal printer, and then lik Have Disk. 6 Speify the loation of the printer software. Note: The path should e similar to D:\Drivers\Print\GDI\, where D is the letter of your CD or DVD drive. 7 Clik OK. Installing the printers on a network (Windows) What is network printing? In Windows environments, network printers an e onfigured for diret printing or shared printing. Both network printing methods require the installation of printer software and the reation of a network port. Printing method Example IP printing Printer is onneted diretly to the network using a network ale, suh as an Ethernet ale. Printer software is typially installed on eah network omputer. Shared printing Printer is onneted to one of the omputers on the network using a loal ale, suh as a USB or parallel ale. Printer software is installed on the omputer attahed to the printer. During software installation, the printer is set up to e shared so that other network omputers an print to it. Installing the printer on a wired network These instrutions apply to Ethernet and fier opti network onnetions. Note: Make sure you have ompleted the initial setup of the printer.

3 Page 3 of 7 For Windows users 1 Insert the Software and Doumentation CD. Wait for the Welome sreen to appear. If the CD does not launh after a minute, then do the following: a Clik or lik Start, and then lik Run. In the Start Searh or Run ox, type D:\setup.exe, where D is the letter of your CD or DVD drive. Press Enter, or lik OK. 2 Clik Install, and then follow the instrutions on the omputer sreen. Note: To onfigure the printer using a stati IP address, using IPv6, or to onfigure printers using sripts, selet Advaned Options > Administrator Tools. 3 Selet Ethernet onnetion, and then lik Continue. 4 Attah the appropriate ale to the omputer and to the printer when instruted to do so. 5 Selet the printer from the list, and then lik Continue. Note: If the onfigured printer does not appear on the list, then lik Modify Searh. 6 Follow the instrutions on the omputer sreen. For Maintosh users 1 Allow the network DHCP server to assign an IP address to the printer. 2 Otain the printer IP address. You an: a View the information on the printer ontrol panel home sreen, or in the TCP/IP setion under the Networks/Ports menu. Print a network setup page or menu settings page and loate the information in the TCP/IP setion. Note: You will need the IP address if you are onfiguring aess for omputers on a different sunet than the printer. 3 Install the printer drivers, and then add the printer. a Install a printer driver file on the omputer: 1 Insert the Software and Doumentation CD, and then doule-lik the installer pakage for the printer. 2 Follow the instrutions on the omputer sreen. 3 Selet a destination, and then lik Continue. 4 From the Easy Install sreen, lik Install. 5 Type the user password, and then lik OK. All the neessary software is installed on the omputer. 6 Clik Close when installation is omplete. Add the printer: For IP printing: In Ma OS X version 10.5 or later 1 From the Apple menu, navigate to: 2 Clik +, and then lik the IP ta. 3 Type the printer IP address in the Address field, and then lik Add.

4 Page 4 of 7 In Ma OS X version 10.4 or earlier 1 From the Finder, navigate to: 2 Doule-lik Printer Setup Utility or Print Center. 3 From the Printer List, lik Add, and then lik IP Printer. 4 Type in the printer IP address in the Address field, and then lik Add. For AppleTalk printing: Note: Make sure AppleTalk is ativated on your printer. In Ma OS X version 10.5 or later 1 From the Apple menu, navigate to: 2 Clik +, and then navigate to: AppleTalk > selet the printer from the list > Add In Ma OS X version 10.4 or earlier 1 From the Finder, navigate to: 2 Doule-lik Printer Setup Utility or Print Center. 3 From the Printer List, lik Add. 4 Clik Default Browser ta > More Printers. 5 From the first pop-up menu, selet AppleTalk. 6 From the seond pop-up menu, selet Loal AppleTalk Zone. 7 Selet the printer from the list, and then lik Add. Note: If the printer does not show up in the list, then you may need to add it using the IP address. For more information, ontat your system support person. Sharing the printer on a network 1 Close all open appliations. 2 Insert the Software and Doumentation CD. Wait for the Welome sreen to appear. In the right-hand pane, selet the port where the printer is physially onneted. LPT1 is seleted y default. 7 Clik + next to Shared, and then selet Shared. 8 Clik Share Name, and then type the name of the shared printer in the Share Name field in the right-hand pane.

5 Page 5 of 7 9 If appropriate for your network, then selet Pulish Printer in Ative Diretory and enter the assoiated information in the right-hand pane. 10 If you want the printer driver to e the default driver, then selet Default Driver. 11 If you want to assoiate a driver profile with the printer, then lik Driver Profile, and then selet the onfiguration in the right-hand pane. 12 To inlude any notes or speifi loation information for the printer, lik Comments > Loation. 13 Selet any other omponents you want to install, and then lik Finish. 14 Follow the instrutions on the omputer sreen. Installing the printer loally (Maintosh) Before installing the printer loally (Maintosh) The printer an e onneted to a loal network using a USB ale. When setting up the printer this way, install the printer software first efore onneting the USB ale. For more information, see the doumentation that ame with the printer. Follow the instrutions on the omputer sreen. Selet a destination, and then lik Continue. From the Easy Install sreen, lik Install. Type the user password, and then lik OK. All neessary software is installed on the omputer. Clik Close when installation is omplete. 2 From the Finder, navigate to: 3 Doule-lik Printer Setup Utility or Print Center. 4 Verify that the print queue was reated: If the USB-attahed printer appears in the Printer list, then quit the Printer Setup Utility or Print Center. If the USB-attahed printer does not appear in the Printer list, then make sure the USB ale is properly onneted and the printer is turned on. After the printer appears in the Printer list, quit the Printer Setup Utility or Print Center.

6 Page 6 of 7 Installing the printers to a network (Maintosh) Installing the printer on a wired network (Maintosh) 1 Install the driver file on the omputer: a d e f Insert the Software and Doumentation CD, and then doule-lik the installer pakage for the printer. Follow the instrutions on the omputer sreen. Selet a destination, and then lik Continue. From the Standard Install sreen, lik Install. Type the user password, and then lik OK. All the neessary software is installed on the omputer. Clik Close when installation is omplete. 2 Add the printer: For IP printing: In Ma OS X version 10.5 or later a From the Apple menu, navigate to: Clik +, and then lik the IP ta. Type the IP address of your printer in the Address field, and then lik Add. In Ma OS X version 10.4 or earlier a From the Finder, navigate to: Doule-lik Printer Setup Utility or Print Center. From the Printer List, lik Add, and then lik IP Printer. d Type the IP address of your printer in the Address field, and then lik Add.
