1 Fujitsu Global Cloud Platform Workaround for RDP Issue after Windows Update on FGCP Windows 2008 R2 VM Abstract This guide shows how to apply the workaround for the issue where users are unable to establish RDP session to the Windows 2008 R2 VM after applying a Windows Update. 2 1 Introduction FGCP users are unable to establish remote desktop session to the target virtual machines running Windows 2008 R2 after applying Service Pack 1 from Windows Update. RDP service is denied on the virtual machine after the update completes. 2 Solution Step 1. Go to the following link and download PsTools.zip. After unpacking the file, place the PsTools folder right under C drive of your local computer. Step 2. Download Windows6.1-KB x64.msu from the following link. Then locate it on the desktop of your local computer. Step 3. Create an SSL-VPN connection to the target system segment as usual from your local computer. 3 Step 4. Click Start and Run on your local computer Step 5. Enter the target IP address as follows. \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.\c$ or \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.\admin$ *If access these folders are not allowed due to your company s security policy, please let us know. 4 Step 6. If asked, enter the target s User name and Password then press OK. Step 7. A folder will appear then drug and drop Windows6.1-KB x64.msu into the folder. Copyright Fujitsu Asia Private Limited 2011 Page 4

5 Step 8. Open Command Prompt on your local computer and cd to the PsTools folder. Step 9. Execute the following command and wait until prompt comes back. psexec \\target s IP address -u target s <User name> -p <target s Password> c:\windows\system32\net.exe stop termservice /y e.g. psexec \\ u administrator -p hrhjjk8j c:\windows\system32\net.exe stop termservice /y Copyright Fujitsu Asia Private Limited 2011 Page 5

Execute the following command and wait until prompt comes back. psexec \\target s IP address -u target s <User name> -p <target s Password> c:\windows\system32\wusa.exe c:\windows6.1-kb x64.msu /uninstall /quiet e.g psexec \\ u administrator -p hrhjjk8j c:\windows\system32\wusa.exe c:\windows6.1- KB x64.msu /uninstall /quiet Copyright Fujitsu Asia Private Limited 2011 Page 6

Execute the following command and wait until prompt comes back. psexec \\ target s IP address -u target s <User name> -p <target s Password> c:\windows\system32\net.exe start termservice e.g psexec \\ u administrator -p hrhjjk8j c:\windows\system32\net.exe start termservice Step 12. Now access to the target VM with RDP as usual. If you still have the problem, please let us know. Please send us the log you executed. *After resolving the problem, please delete Windows6.1-KB x64.msu right under C drive on the target VM. And, please execute Windows update as usual.
