Concerning The compatibility of all products under the new operating system New Product Version SmartInstaller v2.0.1 Windows Vista Compatibility Fix v1.0 Release Date Feb. 12, 2007 General: Description Lonwatcher (v or later), Londisplay (V or later), AlarmManager (3.0 build 153 or later), LNS i plug-ins (current versions as delivered by SmartInstaller) and AX Wizards (current versions as delivered by SmartInstaller) are all compatible with MS Windows Vista ii. Some MS Windows 2 standard executable files necessary to Londisplay, AlarmManager and AX Wizards are not installed by Windows Vista by default. These files have been included in an executable self installing file distributed through SmartInstaller under Windows Vista compatibility tab. A second file in SmartInstaller installs OpenLDV Network Drivers for MS Windows Vista/XP/2000/Server (includes drivers for i.lon 1 10/100/600 RNI 1, PCLTA- 20/21 1, PCC-10 1, and U10/20 1 ). This will allow full MS Windows Vista compatibility to the aforementioned network interfaces. By default, MS Windows Vista s security will not allow SmartInstaller to run. A security feature of MS Windows Vista called User Account Control (or UAC) is implemented to prevent unknown applications from running. Under MS Windows Vista the administrator account must be invoked each time an application is run that needs some level of administrative privileges. SmartInstaller, both in self installation and run mode, uses a software deployment mechanism that is part of the.net Framework called ClickOnce. This allows deployment of the application over the internet without any form of installation. Under Windows XP 2 this functionality is allowed. The latest version of Microsoft.NET Framework has not been corrected to allow this type of application to run without user intervention. This known flaw will be corrected in a future version of the.net 2 Framework. Updated on of 1

2 Solution: There are 2 steps to allow full MS Windows Vista compatibility. First enable SmartInstaller using one of the two methods and second use SmartInstaller to install all (there are two files at the time of publication of this tech note) MS Windows Vista compatibility executables. When these changes are done on a new PC, it is advisable to take these steps before installing Distech Controls software. There are two ways to run SmartInstaller in MS Windows Vista. The first way is to turn off the User Account Control. This will leave MS Windows Vista with the same level of protection as MS Windows XP has. The second way involves installing a special batch file on your desktop and giving it administrative rights each time you launch it. To implement either of the two solutions please follow the instructions the following step by step explanations. Step One - Method 1 Disable User Account Control : The simplest way to use SmartInstaller in MS Windows Vista is to turn your User Account Control to off. This will give you a security level equivalent to that found in Windows XP. To turn it off, go in Control Panel / User Accounts / User Accounts / Turn User Account Control from on to off. Step One - Method 2 Install Batch File and Run as Administrator : If you don t want to turn UAC off or the network administration does not allow it, follow this procedure. 1. Log on to the Support and Training section of our WEB site at _01.htm 2. Go to the download section. 3. Download the file SmartInstaller Vista Patch.zip to your desktop. 4. Extract the zip file on your desktop. 5. When you want to run SmartInstaller, right click on the Launch SmartInstaller icon and select Run as Administrator.

3 Step Two Using SmartInstaller Install All Vista Compatibility Files The next step is to install the necessary files to operate the software in Vista. Start SmartInstaller and follow the instructions below. All files will be installed automatically on the computer. Start SmartInstaller and select the options. The install packages

5 The Please wait appears for a short time. The Select files the Vista Compatibility tab, select all files in that tab and continue standard installation. Finally, install all Distech Controls software.
