2 Pre-upgrade checklist Local administrator rights The user performing the upgrade has local administrator privileges to the target machine. This is required when upgrading and for post-upgrade exercises, but is not required for ongoing access..net Frameworks installed.net Framework 2.0 (+ SP s) is installed on target machine.net Framework 4.0 (+ SP s) is installed on target machine Correct upgrade files for target Operating System You have the correct files for your target operating system XP/Windows Server 2003 RFRevelation_majorVersion_minorVersion_XP.zip Vista/7/8/10/Server 2008 onwards RFRevelation_majorVersion_minorVersion_Vista_Win7_Win8.zip External backup complete All Rockfast SQL databases have been backed up by IT department. Rockfast application closed on all machines The upgrade will have to be completed on all computers in your organisation where Rockfast Revelation is installed. The upgrade will affect your SQL databases, and it is important to make sure the Rockfast software is not being used by anyone in your organisation before proceeding. Failure to adhere to this step may result in a failed database upgrade; requiring your IT team to perform a database restore before trying again.

3 Upgrade procedure Backup existing Rockfast directory Create a copy of your Rockfast installation directory and put the copy in a safe location. Default installation directory is C:\Program Files\Rockfast C:\Program Files (x86)\rockfast (32bit machines) (64bit machines) Unblock zip file Some versions of Microsoft Windows will block zip files downloaded from the internet. Before extracting the latest Rockfast upgrade files; ensure you have unblocked the zip file you downloaded from the Rockfast web site.

4 Extract upgrade files to temporary folder Once you re sure your zip file has been unblocked, extract the contents to a temporary folder. Apply upgrade files to your Rockfast installation Once extracted; apply the upgrade by simply copying all files from the temporary folder and pasting them into your Rockfast installation folder. Be sure to select Replace existing files when prompted by Windows.

5 Post-upgrade tasks After completing the upgrade, it is of great importance that you register the new DLL s. To do this, just launch Rockfast and follow the instructions given here. If prompted to upgrade your databases, only proceed when all other users have closed their Rockfast application. Be patient while the database gets upgraded. Windows may report Rockfast as Not responding during this time. This is normal behaviour, and you should keep Rockfast open until you receive the following message; (IT comment: If the upgrade takes longer than 5 minutes; it may be the result of insufficient privileges within SQL Server. In this event, we suggest closing Rockfast (via Task Manager) and temporarily elevating the relevant SQL user or NT group to sysadmin within your target SQL instance and trying the upgrade again.)

6 Once the upgrade is complete (or if you were not prompted to upgrade), you will be presented with the Rockfast login screen. Log in to Rockfast as Administrator Once logged in, click the Tools tab, and then click the Register DLL s button

7 Depending on UAC settings, an elevated authority prompt may appear. If so, enter Windows credentials that will allow an elevated command prompt to run. You will see a command prompt window appear with the results of each file registered. Confirm that all files were registered successfully (note that there will be one warning stating that no types were registered). Once the registration is complete, press any key to close the command prompt window. You have successfully completed the post-installation tasks. You may now log in as the standard user and proceed with using Rockfast.
