2 Installation Instructions for Juniper Networks Junos Pulse By Andrew Ellis Last update: December 15, 2012 Overview As described by Juniper Networks, Junos Pulse is an endpoint software platform that enables dynamic SSL VPN connectivity, network access control (NAC), mobile security, online meetings and collaboration, and application acceleration, through a simple yet elegant user interface. It removes the complexity from network connectivity and access control collaboration, and application acceleration, through a simple yet elegant user, and delivers optimal connectivity to end users depending on their device type and security state, location, identity, and adherence to corporate access control policies. Previously when a user logged into the SSL VPN, they were prompted to download and install host checker cache cleaner and network connect. They would have to visit the site, bookmark it or put a shortcut on their desktop to access the company intranet. With the use of Junos Pulse that no longer is necessary except for the first visit to the site. Once the application is downloaded and installed, the configuration is already saved as part of the application. The user now only has to select which location to use when logging in. Initially we will only roll out the application for token users but eventually it may come to include vendors. Junos Pulse Links: For Windows users with tokens: For Mac users with tokens: 2

3 When visiting the VPN site or links provided to the users for Junos Pulse, the following page will appear: Username: Figure 1 VPN Login page Enter the Windows domain user in this field. This is the username that you typically enter when you are in the office on your Daily News workstation or PC. Password: Enter the Windows domain password in this field. This is the password that you typically enter when you are in the office on your Daily News workstation or PC. Secondary password: Enter the 8-digit tokencode that appears on the screen of your hardware or software token. Do not use spaces in between the numbers although it may look like there is a space displayed in the token window. Figure 2 - A hardware (key fob) and software token installed on a smartphone 3

4 If this is your first time using the soft token and you are prompted to enter a PIN, do not enter a PIN. Leave the PIN filed blank and click on the arrow button that is below the PIN field to proceed to the next window. Once you have been successfully authenticated with your username, password and the tokencode, you will be prompted to create a 4-digit PIN. You will have to enter the new PIN twice and then you will receive confirmation that the new PIN has been saved successfully. You then will have to go back and enter a PIN on your phone or application once this process has been completed. However, if you have logged in before with a soft token, enter the PIN you created previously (if prompted to do so) and then select the arrow button. 6 Figure 8 Junos pulse install completed (splash screen displayed) You can close the browser once you see the Junos splash screen appear and then disappear. Find the application in all programs/juniper/juniper networks folder. You can right click on Junos pulse and send it to the desktop, pin it to the task bar or start menu for ease of access. However the application is running once you start up the PC. If you select the up arrow in the system tray you will see the application icon running with a grayish color Figure 9 System tray applications running Figure 10 Junos pulse running in the background 6

If you don t have a needed application installed on the device you are using, then you will have to have someone install it or you will have to remote control a device that is already on the network and that has the application(s) installed. 9
