It is important that you redeem your Software Entitlement Certificate soon after receiving your software update kit. Agilent has changed the mechanism for software licensing on the 3070 system. This document explains how to convert to the new licensing. If you have corporate requirements for software control, this new licensing will provide information on what Agilent software is licensed on each 3070 controller. You or Agilent can generate lists of enabled software for each 3070 system you own. You can access an Agilent website with your Software Entitlement Certificate number and verify on which 3070 system the software is loaded, or Agilent can do this for you. This process is described at the end of this document. Complete this license conversion procedure before attempting to install the software update. If You Need Help... 2 Overview of the License Conversion Process Customer receives a preliminary Software Entitlement Certificate from Agilent, included in their or later software update kit. Customer uploads their system identification and codeword file to an Agilent website. Customer receives an with a list of the products added in their order. Customer accesses an Agilent website to redeem this Software Entitlement Certificate. Customer receives an with a software license file. Customer loads the software license file into their controller to enable their software. Customer verifies that license entries are correct. Prerequisites Before doing this procedure, the customer must have: Preliminary Software Entitlement Certificate from Agilent. A separate entitlement certificate containing the software update contract license is required for each controller. You must have an active support contract to receive a preliminary Software Entitlement Certificate. Do not be concerned if this certificate does not represent all the software features on your controller. This is only a preliminary certificate; you will receive a final Software Entitlement later. Ability to access the Agilent Software Licensing website. It s easiest to do this procedure from the UNIX or MS Windows controller being converted. If you must do it from another controller, keep a record of which.enable file goes with which controller. If you do not have Internet access, contact Agilent using the help information in If You Need Help... Supplying System Information to Agilent 1 Access the license website and click License Conversion. 2 Enter the following information: Order number from the Software Entitlement Certificate Certificate number from the Software Entitlement Certificate Your address Agilent Technologies License Conversion Procedure 2

3 The module capacity of the testhead. Use none for an MS Windows development workstation. Use 4 for a UNIX development workstation. Controller s serial number (optional) 1 Text name of the system (optional) 3 Click the Browse button and navigate to the.enable file 2. Alternatively, you may type the path/filename into the field. If you are not accessing the website from the controller being converted you must have a copy of the.enable file accessible. Use Browse or type the path/file name to point to the copy. 4 Verify that all the information is correct and click Submit. It s advisable to print this software entitlement confirmation message and keep it in a safe place. It s an important document providing proof of ownership of the software on your system. Some applications that required a codeword to activate are now standard, so no license is required for these applications (see Table 1). For security, if you make a mistake and have to edit a field, you will also have to re-enter the path to the.enable file. You will see a confirmation page. If your confirmation states that the information is not correct, contact Agilent using the help information in If You Need Help... Verifying Your Software Entitlement You will receive a confirmation message telling you what software licensing products were added to your order. This is your official software entitlement. 1 Use the Agilent serial number on the Agilent label, not the manufacturer s serial number. At revision the basic system is either Analog only or limited powered testing. Redeeming Your Software Entitlement When you receive your confirmation: 1 Obtain your MAC Address 1 : a Login to your target controller as root (UNIX) or administrator (MS Windows). b Based on your operating system and software revision, choose the procedure below to determine your MAC Address. For a UNIX system with software revision or newer: From a UNIX shell window, type /opt/hp3070/bin/lmhostid -ether and record the first 12-digit MAC Address. For a UNIX system with a software revision older than 05.20: From a UNIX shell window, type /etc/lanscan and record the 12-digit Station Address for lan0 omitting the first two characters (0x). For an MS Windows system with software revision or newer: From a Korn shell window, type $AGILENT3070_ROOT/bin/lmhostid -ether and record the first 12-digit MAC Address. For a MS Windows system with a software revision older than 05.20: 1 The MAC Address is also called hardware address, Link Level Address, LANIC ID, or Station Address. 5 From a Korn shell window, type /ipconfig/all. Look for the Ethernet adaptor section of the report and record the 12-digit Physical Address omitting the dashes. MAC Address: 2 Access the Software License Redemption website: a Go to b Click Click here to start software license redemption. c Enter the following numbers from your Software Entitlement Certificate: Order Number Certificate Number d Click Next. 3 Select option 1: I. Request license(s) for one or more software products on one instrument or host computer. You should see another window with your certificate number and order number at the top. 5 Enter your controller s serial number 1 and click Next. 1 Confirm the product selection and click Next or Back to make corrections. 2 Enter your address where the license file will be sent and click Submit. You will receive a license file from license_support@agilent.com. You may view the license immediately by returning to the main screen (HOME) and clicking III. Get previously issued licenses for this order. This may take several minutes to update as the licenses are generated. Activating Your Software License 1 Open the from license_support@agilent.com and save the attached license (plain text) file in: UNIX: /var/hp3070/lib/ Windows: $AGILENT3070_ROOT/lib/ 2 Verify that the license file has the.lic extension. If it doesn t, change it to.lic. 3 Verify that the permissions on the license file allow read permission by the 3070 user. 4 Follow the instructions in the window. Redeem every product. Select each product from the pull-down and click Add. Where it says Enter MAC Address, enter the MAC Address found in step 1. Validating the Software License File Software revisions and later will not accept the old codewords. You may choose to validate your licenses before upgrading your Agilent 3070 to revision 1 Use the Agilent serial number on the Agilent label, not the manufacturer s serial number. If your controller was not provided by Agilent, then use the manufacturer s serial number. Agilent Technologies License Conversion Procedure 5

6 05.30 or later. You can only validate your licenses from the system the licenses were issued to. The 3070 License Check tool helps the user determine the functionality of their version software license files prior to the installation of the 05.30p version of 3070 software. The tool provides the user with information about their license files in a familiar "codeword -l" format output. The MS Windows version of the tool may be installed on 3070 Test Systems and 3070 development systems with software prior to revision 05.30p. The HP-UX version of the tool may be installed on systems with 3070 software prior to revision 05.30p. To download 3070 Licence Check on MS Windows systems: 1 Logon as administrator. 2 Go to and click 3070 License Check Tool for Pre-05.30p Systems. 3 On the 3070 License Check Tool page, click on 3070 License Check WN Download. Save this file to disk. The size of this file is approximately 0.5MB. 4 Close all open programs. 5 Go to the folder in which the file was saved and double-click on LicenseCheckSelfExtract.exe. 6 Follow the instructions in the Self-Extractor window to unzip the files to the folder you have specified. Three files are included in the Self-Extracting file. They are: licensecheckwin.exe lmgr9a.dll README.txt 7 To run License Check, open a Korn Shell window (On the menu bar, click Start> Programs>Agilent3070>Korn Shell). 8 In the Korn Shell window, cd to the folder where the files were extracted and type licensecheckwin.exe 9 Refer to the README.txt file for additional information. To download License Check on HP-UX systems: 1 Logon as root. 2 Go to and click 3070 License Check Tool for Pre-05.30p Systems. 3 On the 3070 License Check Tool page, click 3070 License Check UX Download. Approximately 1.3MB of available space will be necessary to perform the decompression. The final decompressed size of the file will be 0.6MB. 4 In the Save As dialog box, change the Selection: to reflect the location to where you want to download the software package and click OK. 5 Open a shell window and cd to the directory where the software package was downloaded. 7 6 In the shell window, enter: tar -xvf LicenseCheck.tar Two files are extracted from the software package. They are: LicenseCheckUX README.txt 7 In a shell window, enter: rm LicenseCheck.tar. 8 To run the tool, in the shell window type:./licensecheckux 9 Refer to the README.txt file for additional information. If the License Check does not match your expectations or the report shows no valid licenses, check that there are no old license files and that the permissions on the license files are correct then rerun the License Check. If you cannot resolve the problem, contact Agilent using the help information in If You Need Help... before upgrading to or newer software. Certificate Number Click Next. 2 Click III. Get previously issued licenses for this order. 3 Right-click on the file list and select Save Target As to retrieve the license file. 4 Save the license file in: UNIX: /var/hp3070/lib/ Windows: $AGILENT3070_ROOT/lib/ This license retrieval process will only work for the same hardware address for which the original license was submitted. If no license history is found, or you cannot locate your software confirmation , contact Agilent using the help information in If You Need Help...
