V5.2.1 adds new capabilities for processing batches, format recognition, commit performance, and language support to give you more options to deploy and use FileNet Capture in your current environment. With FileNet Capture V5.2.1, you get: Improved consumability and performance Support for Windows 7 and Windows 2008 operating systems Support for DB2 database Several new features are added that give you more options for language recognition and document format handling. 2 Color PDF and JPEG 2000 support With significant improvements in batch import and export, you can: Import batches from and export (all the images with their XML-encoded attributes) to a directory on a networked file system, thereby eliminating the former requirement of only exporting to FileNet Content Manager (P8) or Image Services Easily create a large amount of sample forms to be used with ADR Transformation Studio (for example, enable integration with other applications or commit content to multiple back-end repositories and applications V5.2.1 continues to improve its tight integration with FileNet ECM repositories. Several improvements include: Ingestion performance and flexibility with P8 Content Engine, including the ability to predefine multiple P8 domains for committal to allow easy switching between P8 domains from a single capture station Logic, when committing the first batch of a FileNet Capture session, that is modified resulting in improved performance on par with similar-sized subsequent batches that ultimately gives you faster committal of batches into the content engine Planned availability date August 13, 2010: Electronic availability September 10, 2010: Media availability Description V5.2.1 offers several packages to address your capture requirements. Desktop is designed to provide an easy-to-use departmental capture solution. Professional is an enterprise capture platform designed to add advanced functionality, such as Capture Advanced Document Recognition (ADR), to drive operational cost savings by automating many of the manual labor-intensive tasks associated with the capture process. In addition to its unique tight repository integration, FileNet Capture V5.2.1 expands its export capabilities to offer you more choices on how to deploy and use FileNet Capture in your enterprise, including other content repositories, line-of-business applications, and strategic technologies. Other new features include Asian language recognition, and deliver more deployment options for global enterprises and locally based Asian organizations. New with V5.2.1 Consumability: Mixed version support allows FileNet Capture workstations in a distributed environment to be upgraded gradually, hence providing more flexibility and reducing the cost of upgrades. You are now able to mix FileNet Capture V5.2.0 and V5.2.1 releases in a deployment. Improved reporting of errors offers the capability to report errors in the Windows Event log with various verbose levels for improved manageability and easier integration with IT monitoring tools and error reporting. Improved Unicode support allows entry and transfer of data in multiple character sets, including double-byte, to the backend and shared repositories. Asian language support for traditional and simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Korean for Zonal OCR and full-text OCR-to-PDF conversion. 3 DB2 support offers you the capability to use DB2 for the FileNet Capture shared repository or statistics database. The functionality is in all respects similar to the one offered with Oracle and SQL Server. PDF/A compliance provides the capability to scan and OCR to the PDF/A file format, the ISO standard for long-term archiving of electronic documents. For scanned images, PDF/A ensures that color maps are device independent, and for OCR, it ensures that font definitions are embedded in the document. With these features, a document is self contained and can be reproduced with fidelity irrespective of the operating environment and across generations of technology. Scan to color PDF and JPEG 2000 expand support for file formats and helps better meet compliance requirements, especially with JPEG 2000, which provides lossless compression for image archiving. Batch export and import provide the capability to export to and import from a file system an entire batch at the time. When exporting, all the images of a batch are written to the directory tree named after the batch and documents, together with their XML-encoded attributes. When importing, all the images and XML-encoded information are ingested in FileNet Capture to create a new batch, complete with batch, image and document attributes. These capabilities can be used to easily create a large corpus of sample forms to be used with ADR Transformation Studio that can enable integration with other applications or commit content to multiple back-end repositories. Dual streaming support: In dual streaming, a scanner can generate two instances of a single physical page, each with different scan settings. Typically, it is set up to produce both a JPEG color or gray-scale image and a bitonal TIFF image, so that the TIFF image can be used for optimal OCR accuracy and the color image for viewing and archiving. Miscellaneous performance improvements: -- Faster committal of first batch in P8 Content Engine: The logic that FileNet Capture uses when committing the first batch of a FileNet Capture session improves performance on par with similar-sized subsequent batches. This is most effective in cases where the bandwidth of the communication channel with the Content Engine is more limited. -- Greater flexibility for File Import ingestion: You can now set a shorter wait time (as low as one second) for polling. This setting is most effective in cases where small batches of files are placed in the monitored directory at short intervals, as opposed to larger batches, that take longer to process, but written at longer intervals. Reporting limitation on Microsoft SQL 2008 lifted: A new SQL keyword, introduced in Microsoft SQL Server 2008, created a conflict with the name of a table used in the Capture statistics database. This conflict has been resolved by a schema change in FileNet Capture V Online help improvements: Online help information is reorganized and improved to provide accuracy, effectiveness, and completeness. Configuration improved: You have the capability to predefine multiple P8 domains, allowing for easily switching a FileNet Capture workstation to serve a different P8 domain. A server is a computer system that executes requested procedures, commands, or applications to one or more user or client devices. A Proof of Entitlement (PoE) must be obtained for each server regardless of the of processor cores or partitions in the server on which the program runs or each server managed by the program. You will be notified, via announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice.
