1 Information and Communication Technology BCcampus Online Collaborative Program Computer Support Technician Certificate (CST) Networking ICT 114 Course Outline COURSE IMPLEMENTATION DATE: Sept 2014 OUTLINE EFFECTIVE DATE: September 2015 COURSE OUTLINE REVIEW DATE: June 2020 GENERAL COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course covers a wide range of material about networking, from careers in networking to local area networks, wide area networks, protocols, topologies, transmission media and security. It not only introduces a variety of concepts but also discusses in-depth the most significant aspects of networking, such as the TCP/IP protocol suite. In addition to explaining concepts, the course uses a multitude of real world examples of networking issues from a professional s standpoint, making it a practical preparation for the real world. Information about this document: This Course Outline describes the curriculum of the CST Collaborative. Individual CST courses may be delivered by any one of the participating institutions within the collaborative. LEARNING OUTCOMES: Upon the successful completion of this course, students should be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of general networking terminology relating to topology, technologies and media; demonstrate the ability to configure a networked workstation in a peer-to-peer and client/server network; install and perform basic environmental operations using Microsoft, Unix and Novell network operating systems; analyze the strengths and weaknesses of various network operating systems; troubleshoot network connectivity issues; and establish printing throughout a networked environment.
