WHJ has designed over 50 Police Stations and Public Works facilities. We are currently working with the City of Leander, Sweetwater, Spring Valley, and Ada, Oklahoma on their Police projects. We just finalized a planning study for the City of Buda which included both Police and Public Works. Locally, our staff experience includes the City of Leander and Cedar Park Police Departments, and the City of Leander recently reselected WHJ to study the existing Police Station, review staffing and population growth, meet with the Police Department and provide design options to accommodate their growth for the next 5 years. We are very familiar with the building types, technologies used, and how City departments interact with one another. Due to our experience, we know the right questions to ask. 13 11.9 REPRESENTATIVE SERVICES CITY OF ADA POLICE, FIRE STATION, MUNICIPAL COURT, EOC, and TRAINING NEEDS ASSESSMENT, SPACE PROGRAM, SITE SELECTION and MASTER PLAN Date: TBD Size: 28,584 SF (Police) Cost: $10,400,000 Client: Cody Holcomb, City Manager South Townsend Street, Ada, OK This project represents the first step towards a new Police station, 911 center, municipal court, central fire station and training facility for the city of ADA, Oklahoma. The initial phase involved a needs assessment and program, fire response time study for the city, estimates on probable cost and a comprehensive site evaluation for multiple sites. Three sites were identified by the city and the team evaluated them with regard to a variety of criteria including public safety appropriateness, future development, access/egress, expandability and cost. Each site was further studied by a conceptual design that illustrated an ideal arrangement of the program functions for the available area. On the larger site, the design team developed a variety of options for either a single, combined facility or separate police and fire buildings that allows the city options in development and use. The next stage of the project involves the design of the facility on the selected site. CITY OF SWEETWATER POLICE NEEDS ASSESSMENT, SPACE PROGRAM, and STATION Date: 2015 Size: 14,200 SF Cost: $3,834,000 Client: Brian Frieda, Chief of Police bfrieda@cityofsweetwatertx.com 201 East 4th Street, Sweetwater, TX The single story police facility is designed with the community in mind. The training room can be accessed after hours by local clubs and other groups. The layout allows them access to bathrooms, break area and kitchenette from training. The communications room is located to welcome and oversee the lobby. Spaces provided include communications, administrative, patrol and CID office space, multipurpose and training room, report room, patrol issue, armory, interview rooms for adult and juvenile, briefing, evidence storage and processing, fitness, locker rooms, staff toilets, break room and kitchenette. The locker area is designed to allow both male and female officer use at the same time. Multiple staff entrances are provided at the rear of the facility. City Manager blaborde@ci.buda.tx.us 121 Main Street, Buda, TX The Space Needs Assessment and Facilities Master Plan is an essential part of the City s effort to keep pace with growth and maintain a high level of service delivery. It is intended to establish a process for coordinated development and use of city facilities. The Space Needs Assessment and Facilities Master Plan provides a guide for both short-term and long-term need to establish budgets, capital improvements and building sizes and locations. WHJ and their consultants team worked closely with city staff to determine future staffing and space needs for each department within the City. All buildings currently owned by Buda were evaluated for their ability to serve the City, presently and in the future. The consulting team developed a master plan to address the projected growth in Buda. A search for appropriate sites was conducted with several sites identified and ranked based upon the established site selection criteria. The City of Leander is a rapidly growing community located just northwest of the Austin city limits. Wiginton Hooker Jeffry Architects worked closely with City staff to determine the present and future space needs of the Police Department. These needs were translated into a design to retro-fit an abandoned two-story metal office building purchased by the City for the police function. Patrol, C.I.D., fitness, and records are located on the first floor along with a new public entry. Administration and future expansion are located on the second floor. The available land area was limited so the design required a two story layout with the Administration and Criminal Investigation Departments on the upper floor and clerical, patrol, records, evidence and a 4 cell holding area with sally port on the lower floor. The facility also contains a large training room and a fitness room with shared access for other City staff. The site was designed to limit public access to the front area while accommodating a sheltered outdoor area for the staff and officers in the back as well as covered patrol car parking. At the time of the analysis, the City of Boerne was a growing community with a service population of approximately 25,000. This facility houses the entire police operations, which includes the Emergency 911 Public Safety Answering Point for all of Kendall County, holding and interrogation rooms, training areas and classrooms, an emergency operation center for disaster control, locker rooms, administrative office space, sally port, vehicle storage areas and secure on site parking. The Municipal Court/Council Chamber contains space for an audience of approximately 75. The building includes space for a secure combined conference and Jury deliberation room, as well as a lobby and administrative office space for the Court Clerk and Judge. 16 HICKORY CREEK TOWN HALL, POLICE, and MUNICIPAL COURT FACILITY NEEDS AS- SESSMENT, SPACE PROGRAM, MASTER PLAN and BUILDING Date: February 2006 Size: 10,800 SF Cost: $1,965,000 Client: Jeff Price, Mayor Hickory Creek, TX Project includes comprehensive Needs Assessment, Programming, Master Planning and Design of this 10,800 square foot facility. Master Planning included the Town Hall and the allocation of the Town s future facilities for a Recreation Center, Department of Public Safety and the Department of Public Works. Also included, was the allocation of a retention pond and the continuation of the Ronald Reagan Drive through the Town s 7.98 acre site. The design of the Town Hall included three offices and was programmed and configured to include a courtroom with supporting offices and the Police Department, thus allowing three departments to work efficiently under one roof. Major challenges encountered and successfully addressed during the process included a site with considerable hill and slopes which challenged site development and project cost. The completed project provided an aesthetically pleasant design which represents a small town in growth, but in harmony with a rural community. VALLEY VIEW MUNICIPAL COMPLEX MASTER PLAN and BUILDING Date: Size: 121,000 SF Cost: $17,000,000 Client: Todd Reck, Public Works Director treck@cityofirving.org 333 Valley View Lane, Irving, TX WHJ was retained to create a Master Plan for the 30-acre site owned by the City of Irving Water Utilities and Streets Departments. Through several workshops we were able to determine the issues and Program requirements that would influence the Master Plan for the site and the facilities on the site. WHJ designed six buildings which met the Master Plan and Program requirements. Construction cost for this project was approximately $20 million. 1. The firm performs needs assessment and master planning studies on a regular basis and the vast majority of our projects require them. WHJ staff members work out of offices located in Austin and Plano. If selected, your project will be produced out of the Austin office. No filings or actions have every been taken against WHJ by any Municipal or County organization or entity.
