1 Summer Holiday ipad MOT 2016 Dear Pupils, So, another academic year has finished. In order to keep your ipad in tip-top working condition, below is a quick list of things to run through to check your ipad is in full working condition. Please run through these tasks so it is ready for the new academic year: 1) Are you using the correct Apple ID? a) Some pupils switch around Apple ID s to get apps from different accounts and this breaks Apps@Work, causing them to loose apps and log out of itunesu courses. Make sure both icloud and itunesu both have the same Apple ID. It should be your school address. Same Apple ID- your school address. 2) Is your ipad backing up? a) Go into settings -> icloud -> backup and make sure it is switched on. If it hasn t backed up recently, tap Back Up Now. 3) Is your ipad backing up only the essentials? a) With a limited icloud space, you only need to back up the essential things. Go into settings -> General -> Storage & icloud Usage -> (Bottom) Manage Storage b) Tap on your backup and remove all non-essential things. Make sure your photos are not being backed up (see step 6). Turn off all nonessentials

2 4) Do I absolutely need more icloud Space? a) If, despite optimising your icloud space using the steps above you still need more, you and your parents might want to consider purchasing additional icloud space. 0.79/month for 50GB would accommodate even the most prolific of photographers. Settings-> icloud -> Storage -> Change Storage Plan. This would require a conversation between you and your parents, though. 5) Has your ipad got enough space? a) Go into Settings-> General -> Storage & icloud Usage -> (Top) Manage Storage. If you do not have much space left on your ipad (under 1GB), delete unwanted games and apps. 6) Is your correct name being displayed on your Apple ID? a) Settings -> icloud and check your name is being displayed. If it isn t correct, tap edit and change it to your name. Adding a photo to your profile is optional. 7) Clear out unwanted photos and videos! a) Go into your photos and delete all the ones you don t want anymore. Then, go into the Trash folder and delete them from there too. 8) Store your photos in the icloud using Photo Library. Doing this saves space on your ipad as the originals get stored in your icloud: a) Settings -> Photos & Camera. Make sure icloud Photo Library is turned on and Optimise ipad Storage is turned on. 9) Update all App Store Apps a) Go into the App Store and update any apps that need updating. 10) Update all Apps@Work Apps a) Go into Apps@Work -> Updates tab and update all apps that need updating. 11) Make sure Foldr is working. a) If you cannot connect to the school network anymore, tap-and-hold to delete the Foldr app and re-install it from the App Store. Then enter in the settings: Server Address: foldr.kimboltonschool.com and your school username and password.

3 12) Make sure Paid-For App data is backed up! During the holidays, when you move up a year, all data in Notability, Pythonista and other paid-for apps will be lost as the apps reset. Don t lose your work! a) In Notability, tap the settings cog (bottom-left) and make sure icloud is turned on. This will save all your work over the reset.

4 b) (If you are in 1st-3rd Form) In Pythonista 2, open all scripts you want to save share- > export -> Foldr and save copies in your My Documents folder. c) Go through any other paid-for apps you have and back up files and images by saving them into Foldr. 13) (In the 1st - 3rd Form) Install the new Pythonista 3 (The green icon) from Apps@Work and delete the old Pythonista 2 (The blue icon) 14) Reset your school password! Your school password needs updating every 120 days. Do it now so it won t expire during the holidays and you get stuck in September! a) Tap on Self-Service and follow the steps to change your school password. Write your new password down somewhere secret and safe.

5 15) And finally Clear out your school s. This must be done on a PC. a) Go to in a web browser and click on on the top banner. b) Enter in your school username like this or this (whichever way works) : c) Go through your s and delete all you don t need anymore. d) In particular, delete s with attachments, as these take up a lot of space. Click Filter -> Attachments to see them all. e) When you have deleted all you want, right-click Deleted Items -> Empty Deleted Items 16) All done! Now you can put your ipad away and enjoy the sunshine!
