The policies, procedures, standards of care, electronic medical record documents and orientation/staff development materials have been developed and implemented for use within Children s patient care environment. It is the intent of Children s to readily share these developed components as guidelines in the interest of assuring the highest quality of care for children. It is the responsibility of the user to assure the pertinence of information received as it applies to their own institution. 1

2 Search for and Select a CPOE Patient To customize how the EMR displays when you are working in FirstNet, you need to open a test patient in the production environment. 1 Type cpoe into the Name field. Press Enter or click the Binoculars icon. 2 Click the appropriate campus, then click OK to open the chart. 2

3 Set Your Orders Preferences 1 Click Orders on the Menu to open the Orders window. If necessary, click the down arrow to set the Display field to All Active Orders. 2 Click the Ellipsis button to display the Advanced Filters window. Click Inactive Plan Filter. 3

4 3 If necessary, change the Inactive Plan Filter window to match this: Click OK to return to the Advanced filters window. 4 Click Apply in the Advanced filters window to return to the Orders window. 5 Click View, then Customize View from the View menu at the top of the FirstNet window. The Customize View window opens. 4

5 6 In the Customize View window, select the columns that you want to see by doubleclicking to move items from the Available columns list to the bottom of the *Selected columns list. (Or, click an item, then click the Add-> button to move it to the bottom of the *Selected columns list.) 7 Then, Select items in the *Selected columns list and use the Up Arrow and the Down Arrow to position the item in the list. Select and position items to match this example: For example, click Type, then click Add-> to move it to the *Selected columns list. Click the Up Arrow to move it up the list. 8 Set the options at the bottom of the Customize Orders window to match this: 5

6 9 Click OK to finish. 6

7 Set Up Your IView/I&O Navigator Bands Add, remove and sequence the bands that are displayed in your Navigator for all your patients. By default, all bands are displayed you can remove bands that don t apply to your work. to Suggested Order for ED Navigator Bands ED Core Assessment ED Specialized Assessment Vascular Access View Intake/Output Sedation View Restraints Devices Drains Ostomies - Tubes Integumentary - Wounds Transfer Other bands as needed 1 Click View, then select Layout from the menu bar. 7

8 Select Navigator Bands. 2 To add or remove bands, select items to move between the lists, then click the Arrow buttons, as in the orders Customize View window. Note that double-clicking does not move these items between lists. For initial setup, click to select the core assessment bands that do not apply. In this example, you are a Med Surg nurse, so you ll remove the other core assessment bands. 3 To add or remove bands, select items to move between the lists. The bands that you can add are listed in the Available Document Types list; the bands currently set up are listed in the Current Document Types list. 4 To sequence the bands in the order you prefer, in the Current Document Types list, select one item, then click the directional arrow to move the item up or down in the list, as you did in the orders Customize View window. Note: When the item is positioned, click to unselect it, then select another item to sequence. The arrows cannot move multiple bands. 5 Click OK. to 8

9 6 When this message displays, click OK. 7 Just close the patient s chart and then re-open it to display the changes. Close the chart then re-open it. 8 Click Menu to return to the IView and your new layout. Set Up the ER Triage/Protocol Careset in Your Favorites 1 Select Orders from the Menu and click Add. Note: If you are using the CPOE test patient in the Production environment, click Yes if you see this message: 2 In the Find field, type ER, then click the Binoculars icon to display orders in the window (ignore the dropdown list). 9

10 3 In the window, move the cursor to the ER Triage/Protocol careset and right-click to select Add to Favorites. 4 In the Add Favorite window, click OK. To open the Favorites folder and select from your Favorites, click the Star adding orders. button when you are 10

11 Set Up the Toolbar for BCMA 1 To bring the Medication Administration button into view on your toolbar, right-click anywhere on the toolbar to display the Customize popup menu. 2 Click to select the Customize option to open the Customize Toolbars window and expand the toolbar to show all icons. 3 Click and hold down the mouse button on the Medication Administration button, then drag it to the new location on the toolbar. When the is in position, release the mouse button to drop the button in place. In this example, the icon is being positioned next to Ad Hoc. 4 Close the Customize Toolbars window to see the new toolbar. 11
