1 Download Grader Exam Scores and Upload Scores Into Canvas Grade Book Instructors can down load their exam scores from the CSU Grader system and upload those scores into their Canvas grade book. Instructors can create a link in their Canvas course that will allow students to view their zip strips for a particular exam in Grader. A zip strip is a graphical representation of how the students answers compare to the test s answer key. In Canvas, you would need to create an assignment for your exam. This will create the corresponding column in the grade book into which you can upload your exam scores. NOTE: In July 2017, the web links for the Grade system for instructors and students were changed. 2 Create Assignment In Canvas For Your Exam If you haven t already done so, create an assignment in your Canvas course for your exam. 1) On the left navigation menu click Assignments. 2) In the top right click + Assignment. 3) Type a name for the exam. E.g. Exam 1 4) Type the number of points for the exam. 5) Under Submission Type select On Paper. 6) At the bottom of the page, you can enter a Due Date for the exam. 7) Click Update Assignment. 8) At the top of the page click Publish. 3 You will now see a column for this exam in the grade book. Download Exam Scores From Grader 1) Login to the Grader system with your CSU eid. 2) In Grader, on the Course Selection page, enter your course and click Class Search. 3) Click on your course. 4) At the bottom click Display Class Data. 5) In the row for your exam click Grade Exam. 4 6) Click on the CanvasExamScores.csv file 7) When prompted, save this file to your local computer. 8) Give file a name that quickly lets you know what is contained in the file. e.g. Life205Exam1Canvas.csv Upload Grader Exam Scores Into Canvas Grade Book 1) In your Canvas course, on the left navigation menu, click Grades. 2) In the grade book, in the top right click Import. 3) Click Browse. 4) Navigate to the location on your local computer where you saved your Grader scores. Fall

5 5) Double click on the file. 6) On the bottom left click Upload Data. 7) If the column for the exam already exists in your grade book, you will see a list of your studens and the score that will go into the existing column. Student names 8) At the bottom left click Save Changes. The scores will be uploaded into the exam column in the grade book. If you had not already created an assignment for this exam in your Canvas course and its corresponding grade book column you will be prompted to create a new assignment in your course, which will create the corresponding grade book column. The exam scores will then be uploaded into the new column you created. Fall

6 Add Course Web Link To Allow Students To See Their EZip Strips Set Exam in Grader to Release Zip Strips 1) EZip strips allow students to see how their exam answers compare to the exam s answer key. Instructors need to release EZip strips for each exam in the grader system. 2) In Grader, for EACH exam that you want your students to see their zip strips click on Edit Exam. Fall

7 3) Make sure the Release EZip Grades box is checked. 4) Click Update. Add Zip Strip Link To A Canvas Module 1) On the left navigation menu click Modules 2) Choose the module where you will add the zip strip link; click on the + symbol to the right of the module. 3) Under the Add drop down menu select External URL. 4) In the URL box, copy can paste this link: Fall

8 5) Type a page name. E.g. Check Zip Strips. 6) At the bottom of the page, click Add Item The link to the Zip Strips page will appear under the Module. 7) To the right of the Zip Strip link you created, make sure the item is Published. This will students can see and click on the link. Add Zip Strip Link To A Canvas Page You can create a new Canvas page and add the Zip Strip link. Or you can add the Zip Strip link to an existing page. The example below shows adding the Zip Strip link to a new page. 1) On the left navigation menu click Pages. Fall

9 2) At the top right click on + Page 3) Type a name for the page. E.g. Zip Strips 4) In the body of the text editor, type a name for the link. e.g. Check Zip Strips 5) With your mouse, select/highlight the text you typed. 6) On the text editor tool bar, click on the icon that looks like a chain link. 7) In the url box, copy paste this link: 8) Click Insert Link. 9) At the bottom of the page click Save. 10 10) At the top right of the page, click Publish. What Students Will See When a student clicks on the Zip Strip link you created on either a module or page, they will be prompted to enter their CSU eid. They can select the class they wish to see and view their all of their exam EZip strips for that course.
