8. On the next window, Canvas is asking for verification to allow i>clicker access to the Canvas account. Click on the Authorize button to allow i>clicker access to the Canvas account. ACNS-Colorado State University Spring 2017 Page 10
9. Canvas will populate all Canvas courses that you are enrolled in as an Instructor. a. Selecting a non-cross-listed course. When the list of courses populates, users will see two options for an uncross-listed course, which will look similar to the following; Either one of the courses listed will populate the correct roster, but it is recommended that users select the top option, shorter name, for the course. b. Selecting a Cross-Listed course. When the list of courses with cross-listed courses, i>clicker will list out the courses so Instructors can pull the entire crosslisted roster, or just the roster for an individual section. Typically, Instructors will want the entire roster, but if the course is being co-taught and an Instructor is only lecturing one of the sections, then they are able to just have the roster of the section they are teaching, populate within i>clicker. In the example above, option 1 will display the entire cross-listed roster, option 2 will only display the roster for section 001, and option 3 will only display the roster for section 005. When the correct course/section has been selected, click on the Select button. For any questions on selection the appropriate course\section, please contact CanvasHelp@colostate.edu ACNS-Colorado State University Spring 2017 Page 11

If this is the incorrect course, click the Select Course button to view all Canvas courses again. 11. After clicking Save, there will be an error window that will appear saying the Roster File was Not Found. This will happen originally when a course is created and selected for Canvas. Once the roster has been synced, this error will no longer appear Click OK to continue. ACNS-Colorado State University Spring 2017 Page 12
Syncing a Canvas Roster When the course(s) have been created in i>clicker, the rosters from the Canvas courses must be synced to the appropriate courses in i>clicker. 1. From the main i>clicker window, select a course and then click on the Open Gradebook button. 2. The i>clicker gradebook will open, showing a blank gradebook. Click on the Sync Roster on the top of the window. 3. i>clicker will connect to Canvas and Sync the current Roster. ACNS-Colorado State University Spring 2017 Page 13
4. When the Roster sync is complete, a notification will populate saying the roster was downloaded successfully. 5. The i>clicker gradebook will display all students in the course. a. If a student s name appears in Red, that means the student has not registered their i>clicker in Canvas. b. If a student s name is in Blue, the student has registered their i>clicker. c. The alphanumeric text (########) that is displayed is red is the Clicker ID for an i>clicker that has been used in an i>clicker session, but hasn t been registered within Canvas. Typically, for every Red student name, there will be a corresponding red clicker ID. Note: It is recommended that Instructors occasionally sync the Roster in the i>clicker gradebook until all students have registered their i>clicker s within Canvas. This will ensure the current student and i>clicker remote registrations in the i>clicker gradebook are accurate to the roster and i>clicker registrations in Canvas. ACNS-Colorado State University Spring 2017 Page 14
Syncing Grades with Canvas After an i>clicker session has been completed, the scores will able to be uploaded Canvas from the i>clicker software. i>clicker will create a new column for the scores within Canvas, based on the sync options that are selected before the scores are synced into Canvas. The new columns will default to being placed in the assignment group that is located at the top of the Assignments Index page, and will be placed at the bottom of this group. Note: It is recommended to re-sync the roster within i>clicker occasionally to ensure the most current roster and i>clicker registrations are pulled from Canvas. 1. From the main i>clicker window, select the course and then click on the Open Gradebook button. 2. From the i>clicker gradebook, click Sync Scores. ACNS-Colorado State University Spring 2017 Page 15
3. Canvas will upload the scores of any students in Blue. a. Red names indicate the student has not registered their i>clicker in Canvas. Even though the i>clicker is unregistered, i>clicker is still receiving and storing all data from the i>clicker s in the course. When the student registers their i>clicker, all data associated with the i>clicker will be tied to the student. b. Ab means the student did not use their i>clicker during a particular session. 4. On the Upload Scores to LMS window, all of the sessions that have data within i>clicker will be shown. Individual sessions can be selected by clicking in the checkbox next to a session, or all sessions may be selected by clicking on the Select All button on the bottom left. When the sessions to be uploaded have been selected, click the Next button. 5. The next screen will give options on how to upload the scores into Canvas. a. Selected Session(s) options i. Each session is a separate entry this will create a column for each session that has been selected within i>clicker. ii. Aggregate sessions together as a single entry this will import the total points into a single column for all of the selected sessions from the Upload Scores to LMS Window. NOTE: This will create a column called Total. This column name must not be changed in order for all future uploads to be uploaded into this column. NOTE: Always make sure all of the columns, or only the columns that are to be uploaded as a total into Canvas, are selected. ACNS-Colorado State University Spring 2017 Page 16
b. Points Uploaded options these are based on the settings that have been selected within the i>clicker software on the Scoring Tab. i. Total Points this will upload the total (Performance + Participation) points into a column ii. Performance points only this will upload only the points based on performance. These are set up from settings in i>clicker iii. Participation points only this will upload only the points based on participation. These are set up from settings in i>clicker iv. v. Both performance points and participation points as separate entries this will create 2 columns within Canvas, one called Total_PF or Session #_ PF (performance points), one called Total_PR or Session#_PR (participation points) and upload the corresponding points into their respective columns 6. When the selections have been made, click the Upload button on the bottom of the window. ACNS-Colorado State University Spring 2017 Page 17
7. A window will appear showing i>clicker is uploading the scores into Canvas. 8. When all of the scores have been uploaded, i>clicker will populate a window saying all scores were uploaded successfully. Click the Close button to continue. 9. i>clicker will return to the i>clicker Gradebook. If all syncs are finished, click on the X in the upper right corner. 10. i>clicker will return to the main i>clicker screen. From here, a new session may be started, or i>clicker can be closed. ACNS-Colorado State University Spring 2017 Page 18
Checking i>clicker scores in Canvas After i>clicker scores have been synced into Canvas, it is best to log into Canvas to verify the Assignments have been created and to move the new Assignments into the appropriate Assignment Group, if needed. For this example, scores were synced by each session as a separate entry as Total Points. Depending on how the scores were synced, there may be more, or less columns than this example. 1. Log in to Canvas at canvas.colostate.edu 2. Enter your ename and epassword 3. Select the course that the scores were synced into by clicking on the Courses link and selecting the appropriate course. 4. Click on Grades on the left hand side of the screen. ACNS-Colorado State University Spring 2017 Page 19
5. By default, i>clicker will create a new column for each session in Canvas. These columns will be placed at the bottom of the assignment group that is listed first on the Assignments Index page. The columns will appear in the gradebook based on how the Assignments are set up within Canvas. NOTE: To move the new columns into a different assignment group, the assignments will have to be manually reordered into the correct assignment group after syncing scores. Pre-Synced Scores ACNS-Colorado State University Spring 2017 Page 20
Post-Synced Scores Instructor View As an Instructor, if the i>clicker navigation link is clicked on within a course, the following will display. None of the information within this navigation is pertinent in i>clicker 7.x. Nothing on this page has to be clicked on, modified, changed, etc. for i>clicker to work with Canvas. ACNS-Colorado State University Spring 2017 Page 21
Student i>clicker Registration Students must register their i>clickers on their own. Instructors may not register an i>clicker for a student. For students using i>clicker s in Canvas, they must register their i>clicker within Canvas. Once they register once in Canvas, their i>clicker will be registered for all courses taught in Canvas. 1. Log in to Canvas at canvas.colostate.edu 2. Enter your ename and epassword 3. Select a course that will be using i>clicker clicking on the Courses tab and selecting the appropriate course. 4. On the right side, click on the i>clicker navigation. 5. Enter in the i>clicker remote ID. a. The ID is the 8-character code below the barcode 6. If the registration was successful, the remote ID, along with the date registered, will display below the registration text box. ACNS-Colorado State University Spring 2017 Page 22
Student i>clicker Frequency For an i>clicker to be used in a classroom, the i>clicker frequency must be set to the frequency code that is specific to the classroom where the i>clicker is being used. If i>clicker is being used in a classroom, there should be a sign hanging in the classroom indicating the frequency code for that room. If there aren t any signs indicating the frequency code, please contact Classroom Support at (970) or Allen Sneesby. Follow this link for instructions on how to set the frequency code on an i>clicker remote. i>clicker Resources CSU s i>clicker site CSU s i>clicker help i>clicker 7 Guide i>clicker Instructor Support ACNS-Colorado State University Spring 2017 Page 23
