1 PowerPoint 1: All About Me Slide 1: Title Slide 1. Open PowerPoint. A blank slide appears with a spot for a title and a subtitle; this is the title slide. 2. Click where it says Click to add title and type All About Me. 3. Click where it says Click to add subtitle and type By: Your Name. That s it! You have created your first slide. However, it looks pretty boring. Before we move on to our next slide, let s change the design or the theme of the presentation. 4. Click the Design tab at the top of the screen. In the middle of that ribbon, you will see several theme choices. Hover over any of the designs to see what it will look like. 5. Once you find a theme you like, go ahead and click it. You can also change the color combinations of the theme you have selected. 6. Click Colors on the Design tab and choose a color combination that you like. The last thing we are going to do is customize the background of the slide. 7. Click Background Styles on the Design tab and choose a background style you like. Design tip: When you have a dark-colored background, choose a light-colored font. If you have a light-colored background, you should have a dark-colored font. \\adm-2k12-fs1\users\staff\jgipp\computer Skills\Presentations\All About Me (PowerPoint)--instructions.docx Page 1 of 6
2 Slide 2: Me 1. Click the Home tab and then click New Slide to insert a new slide. A title and content slide should appear. (The keyboard shortcut to insert a new slide is Ctrl+M) 2. Insert your title by clicking on the title area and typing Me! (You do not need to center or change the appearance of your text.) 7x7 Rule As we learned, a PowerPoint presentation is very similar to an outline indicating the major points of our presentation. You should not type paragraphs or even sentences in PowerPoint; only phrases should be used. The rule to remember when preparing a PowerPoint presentation is that you should not have more than seven words next to a bullet. You should also remember to have no more than seven bulleted items on a single slide. This is called the 7x7 rule. If you find that you will exceed this number, just break the information into two or more slides. 3. Click where it says click to add text and type in the following items (pressing Enter after each one) Your birthday (spell out the month) The city and state where you were born Your current age 6 th grade DC Everest Middle School The next thing you need to do is add an image on this slide. You can either add a clipart image, animated clipart (choose video for the file type), or a photograph. 4. Click the Insert tab and then click Clip Art. 5. Along the right side, type the keyword in the search box and click the down arrow to choose the file type. 6. Make sure the Include Office.com content box is selected and then click Go. Design tip: You may also use images from the Internet, as long as you give credit. Insert a text box that says Photo taken from whateverwebsite.com below the image. (not google.com) \\adm-2k12-fs1\users\staff\jgipp\computer Skills\Presentations\All About Me (PowerPoint)--instructions.docx Page 2 of 6

Insert your title by clicking on the title area and typing My Family. 4. Click where it says click to add text and type in the following items: Your parents The number and names (if you want) of your brothers and sisters Any pets 5. Add an image to the slide. Slide 4: Elementary Years 2. Insert your title by clicking on the title area and typing Elementary Years. 3. 4 Slide 6: Table Favorites 2. Insert your title by clicking on the title area and typing My Favorites. 3. Click the table icon in the center of the slide. 4. A small dialog box will open asking the number of columns and rows needed for the table. Type 3 columns and 4 rows. You will type three different lists of your favorites. I have given you some choices below; however, you can choose a different category if it is school appropriate. 5. In the first cell, type one of these categories: Movie or TV Show or Actor. 6. You will end up with a table listing your top three choices of each category. Slide 7: Final Slide 2. You can add text that says The End or Thanks for Watching. 3. You can also add an image if you want. \\adm-2k12-fs1\users\staff\jgipp\computer Skills\Presentations\All About Me (PowerPoint)--instructions.docx Page 4 of 6
5 Viewing the Slide Show 1. There are a couple ways to view the slide show: A. Click Slide Show and From Beginning. B. Press F5. 2. Press the space bar or click the left button of the mouse to advance a slide. Adding Transitions 1. Click the Transitions tab at the top of the screen. Transitions determine how one slide changes into another. 2. Click any of the transitions and watch your slide to see how it will change. 3. You can apply a different transition to each slide, or you can click Apply to All. You will know that you have added a transition to each slide when you see a small star at the left side of the screen next to each thumbnail image of the slide. Adding Animations 1. Click the Animations tab at the top of the screen. Animations determine how text appears on the slide. 2. Click the title box on your first slide. Click an animation to preview it. 3. Go to the next slide and click the main textbox containing the bulleted items. Click an animation style. You can have one animation style for the headings in your presentation and one animation style for the body text of your presentation. However, you should not have too many different animation styles in the presentation or it is distracting to the audience. You will know that you have added an animation style to the text when you see a little number next to each line. You only need to animate the bulleted items. \\adm-2k12-fs1\users\staff\jgipp\computer Skills\Presentations\All About Me (PowerPoint)--instructions.docx Page 5 of 6
