These new solutions are added to an enhanced range of existing imaging and metrology software solutions for areal 3D optical microscopes, scanning probe microscopes, 3D and 2D surface profilometers, and form measuring systems. 4 What s new in Mountains 7.0? Configurable workspace Panels can be moved, stacked, docked and combined for optimal use of screen space with any screen format (desktop, notebook). Top-down organization of all imaging, analysis and editing functions All functions are organized in groups and sub-groups that are clearly labeled to make it quick and easy to go from the idea of what is required to finding the actual tool to do the job. Easily configurable parameter and results tables In all parameter tables and results tables the properties of the current cell or selected groups of cells - including text font, size, color, style and justification and cell fill color can be adjusted using a minibar. In parameter tables column widths can be adjusted interactively. Tables that have too many rows to fit on a page are automatically split and rolled over to the next page. When a parameter or results table has too many columns to fit on the page a slider is available for horizontal scrolling. Reorganized preference settings and personal color theme All preferences (general and metrological) are set in a single dialog accessed via the File menu. Select your favorite color theme in Preferences Miscellaneous. 3. Compatibility with everyday Office tools for easy publication PDF and RTF document export Integrated PDF export (no need for 3 rd party software) and Word-compatible RTF export. Screen and print quality frame and page bitmap output Export individual frames and pages or export all pages in PNG, JPG, GIF, TIFF, BMP or EMF. Thanks to close-ups it is easy to fine-tune and manipulate studiables! Streamlined geometric analysis Measure multiple distances, angles and point locations on a surface in a single frame. Enhanced Abbott bearing ratio curve and height/depth distribution New display options: bar display can be vertical as well as horizontal, height/depth distribution can be displayed as area under a curve as well as histogram. Enhanced thresholding with interactive line cursors and modernized material distribution The material distribution is represented by an area under a curve. Thresholding operator the thresholded zone is selected interactively using two interrelated pairs of line cursors (one pair for delimiting height and another pair for delimiting material ratio). Extract area operator Formerly known as Zoom, this operator has been enhanced to extract the area inside or outside a user-defined perimeter (which can be rectangular, circular or polygonal). If required, points that are not extracted from the surface can be converted into non-measured/missing points. Streamlined contour analysis New top-down organization with menus and submenus grouping related functions. All toolbars can be moved, docked or left floating. For example, the element creation toolbar can be docked on the left hand side of the screen and the dimensioning toolbar can be docked on the right hand side. Easy results management Single results manager panel with all numerical results Numerical results generated by every study in an analysis document are grouped in the new Results Manager panel. Set tolerances directly in the panel and display pass/fail status Specify tolerances for any result and the pass/fail status is displayed automatically next to it. Export results from the panel Select results and export them in an Excel-compatible file directly from the panel. The results manager shows all numeric results and pass/fail status. New operators for outlier removal and mapping of local surface properties Outlier removal Mountains 7 has a new operator for removing outliers that are often present on surfaces measured using 3D optical microscopes. Both outliers around edges and isolated outliers can be removed. Removed outliers are converted into non-measured/missing data points. The new operator provides two previews: one shows the surface with outliers removed, the other shows the removed outliers. After outlier removal the non-measured/missing data points that have been generated can be filled. The new Remove Outliers operator. A. Removed outliers shown as missing data points. B. Surface after missing points have been filled. A B Map local surface properties Local surface properties are mapped with respect to complexity, orientation or a selected surface texture parameter. The map can be output as a surface studiable, an image or a combined surface-image studiable for further study using Mountains tools. Wear on a surface texture can be mapped and quantified (for example on a used file tool, floor or keyboard). Correlative studies in mixed microscopy and spectrometry environments SEM images, fluorescence images, spectrometric density maps and other images including photos can be colocalized with each other. They can also be colocalized with 3D surface topography obtained by areal 3D optical microscopes, scanning probe microscopes and 3D profilometers. This makes it possible to carry out correlative studies, for example of surface morphology and surface composition. Colocalization functionality was available in Mountains 6 and has been enhanced in Mountains 7. It is standard in some Mountains products and an optional module for others. Separate and merge grains, particles, islands and other structures When necessary, correct automatic grain detection results using the new interactive/automatic Separate Grains operator. Separate or merge selected grains in accordance with your own criteria. 15. Level surfaces ignoring structures (level operator) Similarly, ignore structures (above or below the background) automatically when you apply the basic Level operator. (Note this function is also available with the more advanced Line by Line Level operator.) 17. Fine tune the microroughness cut-off (s) at any time If you select a s cut-off in the microroughness preference then MountainsMap 7.1 automatically includes it in the analysis workflow. Modulate multi-physics surfaces using surface division (SPM) Use the new Surface Division operator to modulate one layer of a surface with respect to another layer by dividing the first layer by the second, and adjust the relative positions of the layers interactively. Example: division of the voltage layer by the topography layer (in µm) to obtain volts/µm, corresponding to absorbance (Beer-Lambert law). Available in MountainsMap SPM and the SPM Extension optional module. 22. Print your surfaces in 3D! MountainsMap 7.1 supports the following 3D printing file formats: STL (topography only), VRML 2.0 (topography + color image) and X3D (topography + color image). Scale factor in x/y and z and bulk thickness are configurable. 23. 24 What s new in Mountains 7.2? 24. Superfast 3D reconstruction from 2 or 4 SEM images + metrology 3D reconstruction from 2 or 4 SEM images has been dramatically improved so that it is super-fast and much easier. The new simplified user interface for stereoscopic 3D reconstruction from 2 SEM images automatically suggests: the sizes of the search window used to search for corresponding points on the two SEM images and the comparison window used to calculate the disparity between two points. Other parameters and filtering options are defined in a straightforward way. Left. Image size can be defined interactively with respect to the scale marked on one of the images. SEM metrology - 3D stereoscopic reconstruction from SEM images not only provides 3D surface visualization in color, it also makes it possible to carry out studies of surface metrology. Above. A profile (cross-section) extracted from the surface confirms the correspondence between the 3D reconstruction and the object: a physical reference standard. Right. 26 What s new in Mountains 7.2? 25. 3D color enhancement of single SEM images Mountains 7.2 not only carries out superfast 3D reconstruction from 2 and 4 SEM images, it also provides 3D enhancement of single SEM images. 3D enhancement of homogeneous surfaces is based on edge lighting and is only possible if the sample surface is inclined to the SEM s electron gun. Visualize surfaces in real 3D with glasses Activate the new stereo rendering option and view surfaces in real 3D through 3D glasses: Polarized 3D glasses. Anaglyph glasses (red-cyan, yellowblue). 27. 27 What s new in Mountains 7.2? 28. 3D color mapping of spectroscopy information New software in Mountains 7.2 provides 3D color mapping of spectroscopy information. A wide range of applications includes 3D visualization of hyperspectral maps of nanoscale devices obtained by high resolution cathodoluminescence instruments, making it easier for researchers and quality engineers to locate and characterize features and defects. Figure A: 3D color map of a gallium nitride LED (light emitting diode), where the third dimension corresponds to cathodoluminescence intensity. More powerful surface assembly stitching without offsets In Mountains 7.2 multiple surfaces measured on a regular horizontal grid can be stitched together into a single surface even if data on the x,y offsets between the surfaces is not available. Set the grid size. Drag/drop surfaces into the right relative spatial locations for stitching. (When offsets are available, surfaces are located automatically.) Set the parameter that controls the search for overlaps (up to 14%). Then click to calculate the results. Stitching is done automatically. Copyright Digital Surf, all rights reserved. 29 What s new in Mountains 7.2? 30. New math functions Basic math functions (+, -,, /, ^) can be applied to one or more surfaces. In addition, constants can be defined and used in formulae. Easier application of axes settings In Mountains 7.2 the same axis settings can be applied to surface and profile views in several frames to save time. Right. Two surface views and one profile view are selected (using shift-click). Their vertical axes are in heights (upwards from 0). 30 What s new in Mountains 7.2? 32. Absolutely my Mountains customized Operators & Studies ribbons The new Ribbon Customization feature provides total control over the icons displayed in the Operators and Studies ribbons. Any icon can be removed from one of these ribbons and transferred to a menu called Other where it is still active. An icon in the Other menu can be restored to its original ribbon at any time. This means that the Operator and Studies ribbons can be personalized by or for any user in order to: Keep icons in everyday use on ribbons and transfer other icons that are used rarely to a pull-down menu. Introduce icons and their corresponding functions progressively for new users during training. When mini-icons are present: make all icons on the ribbons full-size for greater visibility. Example (above) The initial menu contains most of the operators in MountainsMap Premium. Maybe some operators are used infrequently. Some operators are represented by small size icons. The Ribbon Customization feature is selected by right-clicking on the Operators label or on one of the operator group labels (Adjust Position, Connect, ). By default all Operators are checked with a green tick mark. Now several operators are unchecked in order to simplify the Operators ribbon and to display full-size icons only.
