Operation description The Laserdenta Dental Scanner described in this user guide. For scanning shadow-free 3 dimensional models and work pieces. It is state-of-the-art and has been built to current technical safety standards. By means of the accompanying scan software you will be able to guide the entire scan process simply and comfortably with a conventional Windows Pc. Unique features: -5-axsis laser scanner -shadow free 3D-scanning -scan accuracy to 20 microns The scanner captured by the scanner is converted into scatter diagrams by the scan software. In The second steps the software triangulation a 3D-CAD model from the scatter diagram. This is stored in the form of stl-files. Later these stl-files can be reworked with any CAD-Software. Laser meets safety class 1 standards. This laser beams present no danger to the user. No special Safety precautions are required

1.Start program After successfully installing Dental Scanner Version 2.3x you will find an icon on your desktop. double click on the desktop-icon Ensure that all packing and transport strapping has been remove before you start the program. Firewire (camera), USB (scanner gidance), hardware key (black usb sick) are attached. Please copy the license key from the and enter it at the first start. 6 2. Program settings Start the program. Click on software settings Symbol. Enter your store location. Choose browse and edit a folder to save all scan data. If you have a network you can save the data on it (network link). In this folder will create sub folders with name of project-id. In the folder you find a scan report and in scans the stored STL-data

3. Open new project After starting the program you will be guided step by step. Project data Enter a meaningful name for your scan under Project ID (for example the file number of the CAD program: com ) All details will be found in the scan report at the end of the project. Only the project ID is required entry, then click on 2-material

Set/fix the model on our model holder. The model must be flat on the holder. A level scan surface should be made by appropriate setting (see calibration). Place the model holder in the scanner. For this 3 guides were set into the holder and scan table. Important the model must snap securely into the guides. Shifting during the scan process will lead to false or unusable results

4. Material settings In the version 2.3x could not maunel material settings. The laser calibrated atomically on the material. But the laser line was to strait you must set the correct height. Specials by scan the opposing bite: Set/fix the model on our model holder. All offset from the holder or model will get a wrong measurement. Positioning the bite registration. Attion:you have to keep that surfaces of the bite regristration is not to transparent (Waxs, Silicon). Use the scan-spray

5. Clinical finding With our system pre-calculated scan strategies can be automatically retrieved which ensures easy and efficient workflow. For this a number of selections and markings/labels must be made. Left click on clincal finding. Choose the appropriate scan type. 5.1 Scanning of tooth impressions (stump, bridge, inlay or implant) in the upper jaw. 5.2 Scanning of tooth impressions (stump, bridge, inlay, or implant) in the lower jaw. 5.3 Scanning of complete bite impressions (upper/lower) 5.4 Scanning of a series of singel stumps 5.5 Scanning with manuel definitions. No automatic processes. 5.6 Single Quick-Scan. Fast scan of stumps

5.1 Mark scan area Scan a bridge (Point 5.1/5.2) After choosing the scan type a summary picture will be created stepwise from the model. This picture assists in the navigation of the scanner. By pressing ESC the process can be stopped before finishing. If desired areas are recognizable on the picture, you will save time since further information won t be required. The system asks you to mark the appropriate areas/tooth by clicking

If you want to scan the bite regristrition, reply the next query with a click on it. Choose the first, in this case a stump with a left click on it. chosen area. In this case tooth numbers A selection window with international tooth numbering asks for a selection regarding the

5.2 Marking of complete scan Chose under: Repeat steps with last area of your process. In this case stump At bridges first the last stump, Information s of neighbor teeth for contact points will automatically engage. The areas between the first and the last markings need to be marked individually. They will automatically pop up and you can select a marker type. In this case tooth 16-26;

Selected the appropriate choise for tooth 16 (stump) This process repeats itself until all teeth between the first and second markings have been marked (with a full replacement up to 12 individual choices). Position the symbols listed on the edge by left clicking on the red X and holding then dragging to the correct position on the picture, release mouse button. Editing allocation:

By right clicking on the red X the information entered can be changed or eliminated. If you find you have made a mistake, you can repeat the entire process by clicking on clinical finding. Start the scan with a click on record :

5.3 Marking of complete scan (full arch) Choose upper or lower jaw. Mark indicated points on the picture as described in the diagram. Indicate the type of tooth ( normal, pontic, stump, inlay, or implant) Repeat this process until all areas/teeth have been marked. The scan of the full arch will be carried out in a lower resolution than the single scan (5.1/5.2). The accuracy of +- 20µm remains. While marking make sure at mark the middle point o the tooth, for example highest point

5.4 Scan from series of stumps For scanning a series of stub you can take an optional holder. Keep by insertion of the right position. (Fix the base plate). Fix tooth vertical on the plate. If not all bracket is not complete, to allocate the adjustment to avoid of formation shades. Mark they placed position

Right/Left rear/ahead Rotation y-axis Rotation z-axis Make sure the scanner is scanning from left to right. Missing information s (holes) must be placed on the left side and shadowed elements must be removed. Rotation Y-axis: Rotate the axis. Hold left mouse button down and move it in a downward direction in the window. Repeate the process until the model is in desired position. Gauge of the Z-axis: Rotate the model only to the right by holding left mouse button and moving the mouse from left to right in the window. Repeate the correct/suitable angel is achieved

Position of a Re-Scan: Wrong, the neighbor-stump creates shading and the laser line could not register the area. Right, the laser line can enter the outage information and edit

For a better navigation you can show the report picture in the background. Chose Scan-Modus: Area Scan: Define the area to scan. Detail Scan: Define a scan instance to scan the decelerated point with free angle settings. Detail Scan Settings Choose a finish scan or make a new with free choose of angle. The top scan select if before a scan without gauge from left/right or both sides should be realised. Save data with your own name

Mark the area to scan Draw a frame around the desired area with the left mouse button hold down. The cross indicates the focal point of the scan process. Place the cross over the area to scan process. In the Scan list the first scan process created will appear. Serveral more scan processes can be added. With the camera symbol you can turn on the camera and test it. The scanner moves to set position and shows the selected area. Remove all shadowing elements. Makes sure the model holder is firmly in place. If it is not in original place, you will receive a false re-scan. Start the scan The re-scans will be added to the original one. A complete scan of the model is not necessary. The re-scanning mode can be repeated as often as needed

When your scan contains all necessary information choose Scanning finished. Detail Scan: Simple re-scan, choose stump to enlarge scan. A list with all marked will be show. Choose desired teeth/stump and transform this in the left window. Start Scan If you have all information s in your scan click on scanning finished "Scan finish. The data will be calculated to high-definition mesh. This action could take any minutes, how big the mesh is. Request: Shoud you the a failure in the high-difination picture, could you with a click on No back again in the den Re-scan - Modus. If you see all wanted data push the button Yes. After that you could not import any data

8. Bite scan You have chosen bite scan. After scanning the model, the process for scanning the bite begins automatically. If bite regristration fix press ok. Make sure the model and bite registration are fixed in the scanner. Any displacement of the holder or model lead to a false positioning of opposing bite. Important: Make sure the surface of opposing bite is not to transparent (wax, silicon). As a remendy use the scan spray

The scanner goes over the area of marked teeth and creates a preview of the opposing bite. Re-scanning is possible here also. During scanning excess information of the impression was recorded. This can be marked with the editing tools and removed. (see re-working)

9. Re-working After completion of the calculation you will see the high resolution mesh. The mesh tool bar opens. Menu-list Editing open, save or erase of (marked) STL data

Alignement of two meshes The alignment of two meshes could be only if accordant meshes were marked. Just then the symbol gets active. Example: Align lower- and upper jaw with the bite registration. Scan the lower jaw with the bite registration. By directly scanning the positioned bite, The impression of the upper jaw is automatically in the correct orientation. The impression of the upper jaw as a negative shows the occlusion to the lower jaw. An alignment of the upper jaw occurs through a joining of the opposing bite and the upper jaw. Data from both meshes are compared and aligned. Now scan the upper jaw Lower and upper jaws are still not dependent on one another. The upper jaw must be turned 180 degrees and must be aligned

For this use Module First load the stored bite registration Mark both meshes (Mesh-List or left mouse button+s key) Align meshes Tool: Using reference points the model is aligned

1-2-3 Registration With 3 reference Points, which set on Mesh could every model according in 3Droom aligned. At that point adjustment of two Mesh. The reference points are merged 1-1, 2-2, 3-3. Position and Zoom can move how in the Re-Work window. Attion that the contra bite was the reference scan, these is affair to the upper jaw and do not moved in the lay. Those mesh a fixed und Mesh B move on Mesh A

Adjustment from Upper law for bite regristration Now select align meshes in order to align the opposing bite and the upper jaw on each other. For this it is important that the opposing bite is loaded first. The second mesh will automatically be shifted on to the first mesh. The result is a perfectly aligned upper to lower jaw. Store the rotated and aligned upper jaw

10. Finish project Your scan has all necessary data and can be stored now. Click: 6 Finish project To convert the data into our CAD a fusion is automatically created. (Data are written into a file) Do not do this manually. If done import errors results in CAD. Export Window Click YES if data should be transformed for use with Laserdenta-CAD. Click NO and you will be able to store each individual mesh with chosen name. To the right all meshes which should be exported will be listed. If you created a fusion manually, list it on the left. Do not move it into the right window. Export transforms all data files into fusion. The scan is automatically converted to CAD in its 3D position. Any later corrections in CAD are thus unnecessary. The data is stored in the file Scan-ID under scans and is ready to import into CAD. Copyright 2009 Laserdenta GmbH
