2 Mission Statement The Alaska Department of Corrections enhances the safety of our communities. We provide secure confinement, reformative programs, and a process of supervised community reintegration. 2
3 Commissioner s Letter The mission of the Department of Corrections is to enhance the safety of our communities while providing secure confinement, reformative programs, and a process of supervised community reintegration. I am pleased to make this profile available online. This report is based on our best information and serves as a snapshot of a typical day. Data comes from our Alaska Corrections Offender Management System (ACOMS), and is meant to give a general summary of Alaska s offender population. ACOMS went live in May of 2010 and will provide even more accurate and timely data than previously. The which encompasses many hours of research and calculation on the part of department staff serves as a valuable tool for our department in the successful accomplishment of our mission. 3
